Canon PowerShot G7PopPhoto have reviewed the new Canon G7, which features a 10 megapixel, 1/1.8 inch sensor, DIGIC III image processor, Face Detection, 35-210mm lens and optical image stabilization system.

“So is the G7 for the Elpher looking to move up to a more feature-rich camera, or is it meant to be the pocket cam for the EOS enthusiast and pro who doesn’t want to let go of too much creative control when traveling light? Can one camera actually bridge the Elph-EOS gap successfully? In some ways yes, it can, but in some significant ways, the answer is no.”

Casio EX-S770TrustedReviews have just reviewed the slim Casio EX-S770 camera, which offers 7.2 megapixel still images and records high-quality movies in MPEG-4 format.

“Image quality is also very good. Despite the terminally overcast weather I was able to take some decent test shots, and I was suitably impressed by the level of detail, colour rendition, exposure accuracy and noise control. The lens does suffer from very visible spherical distortion at its widest angle setting, but provides very good overall sharpness right into the corners, with no chromatic aberration visible. There was also a refreshing lack of colour fringing on high-contrast shots.”

Canon SD800 ISDPReview have taken a look at the Canon Digital IXUS 850 IS (known as the Canon SD800 IS in the United States).

“So then, what Canon gives with one hand - the wider lens, better screen and other tweaks - it takes away with the other (reduced image quality). But the SD800 IS still has all the qualities I loved so much in the SD700; it’s fun, reliable, has image stabilization, is built and styled beautifully and it produces attractive, punchy results without the need for manual intervention.”

Samsung NV10PCMagazine have just reviewed the new 10 megapixel Samsung NV10 digital camera.

“The camera fared well during lab testing. I didn’t find much noise in the daylight shots, but high ISO settings indroduced some colored noise. Pictures had pretty good color, with just a touch of purple fringing. My flash pictures displayed nice illumination with lots of detail in the highlights. The NV10 averaged 1,900 lines of resolution, which is excellent for a 10MP camera. There was no pincushion distortion to speak of, and just a touch of the usual barrel distortion.”

Pentax K10DMegapixel.net have reviewed the Pentax K10D, which offers 10.2 megapixels, shake-reduction, dust removal system, 22-bit colour, three new shooting modes, 2.5 inch LCD screen and 11 point auto-focusing.

“The Pentax K10D is well-designed and this comes through very quickly when the camera is in hand. Controls are intelligently laid out, their position intuitive. In addition, the K10D is extremely capable. It is equipped with all the basic modes and adds a couple of interesting modes. The K10D has all the functions one expects from a high-end SLR: it can be user-customized for many functions, it has built-in stabilization that allows it to stabilize any Pentax lens; and it also provides a wide range of sensitivities, even yielding useable images at the highest part of that range. To boot, it is dust and moisture resistant, a claim few others can make.”

Luminous Landscape have published a guide to assessing your technical and aesthetic level as a photographer.

“Photographers go through stages of development, and while we don’t all follow the same path, an understanding of our current level of skill, creativity and artisty is, I think, an important exercise. If we know where we are and we have an idea of where we want to be, it becomes a lot easier to determine the path from here to there and to take steps to get us there.  Most of us have never given much thought to where we are in terms of skill, creativity and artistry, and even if we did, are not necessarily good judges of our own skills and levels so this is not a trivial process. While gradually and continuously striving to improve does in the end result in progress, I propose that we find a better and perhaps more direct route to becoming better photographic artists.”
