Steves Digicams have reviewed the 7 megapixel, 10x optical zoom Olympus SP-510 UZ.
“The quality of the SP-510’s SHQ images is on par with many 7-megapixel consumer models. Our outdoor shots were sharp with good overall exposure and color saturation. While some may see the extended ISO capabilities of this model appealing, I found image noise was pretty bad in the higher sensitivity settings. ISO 400 and below look very nice with typical traces of image noise. However, ISO 800 and above look very rough.”

“The Nikon D40 DSLR is an affordable Family DSLR that gives excellent image quality and provides an easy step up from point-and-shoot (P&S) digital cameras. Photographers tired of the limitations (especially low-light) of P&S digital cameras will welcome this compact and lightweight DSLR with the performance and responsiveness characteristic of much more expensive digital SLRs.”

DigiCamReview have reviewed the new Fujifilm S9600 (called the FinePix S9100 in the USA), which is a 9 megapixel camera with a 10x zoom lens.
“The Fujifilm SuperCCD sensor and image processing means the Fujifilm FinePix S9600 / S9100 has low noise that is similar to the Olympus E-400 Digital SLR - an impressive feat considering the Fujifilm sensor is many times smaller than the Olympus sensor. Most compact digital cameras have low noise at ISO100 and ISO200 and you start to see problems at ISO400.”

TrustedReviews have reviewed the new Pentax Optio W20, a compact digital camera featuring waterproof performance with a slim, flat body design.
“The W20’s lens appears to be the same excellent folded-optics unit as on the W10, and again it produced good edge-to-edge sharpness and very little distortion at wide angle. Colour rendition and exposure were both as good as the dreadful lighting conditions would allow, and the level of detail in the test shots was good, although there was some evidence of over-processing and noise reduction.”

Luminous Landscape contributor Alain Briot has a very interesting new article called “Just Say Yes”, all about fine art photography and the thorny issue of digital manipulation.
” There is a certain percentage of the public who believes that fine art photographs must represent reality. There are people who do not know that there are differences between what they see and what the camera captures. Finally, there are individuals who do not understand that a photograph is a two dimensional representation of reality and not reality itself because reality is far more complex, three-dimensional and perceived by us through five senses and not just one. Some people are willing to change their minds when these things are explained to them. Others have their minds made up and do not want to be bothered by the facts. Those are the ones that I am referring to in this essay. “

Megapixel.net have published their review of the new Nikon D40 entry level DSLR camera.
“By any measure, the Nikon D40 is an excellent deal. It may not have the highest resolution available in a digital camera, but the image size it produces is more than enough to make excellent prints up to 10 x 6.6 inches (25 x 16 cm) at 300 dpi. And, while the D40 has some restrictions when it comes to the AF lenses that can be used with it, it still represents an excellent opportunity to jump to a digital SLR.”

DigitalCameraInfo have reviewed the new Fujifilm F31fd camera, which adds face detection and infra-red communication to the 6 month old F30 model.
“The Fujifilm FinePix F31fd has a lot of interesting technology – and this is reflected in the price. The retail tag of $399 is quite pricey especially when compared to Fujifilm’s other relatively affordable and reasonably priced cameras. Still, this model has really cool features and takes great pictures and is priced competitively within the market for its capabilities. It has face detection technology that works quickly and effectively, and IrSimple communication technology to wirelessly transfer images to enabled printers and devices.”
