ePhotoZine have reviewed the new 10 megapixel Nikon D80 DSLR camera.
“The camera produces usable images up to the 1600ISO mark, although by that time there is some noise creeping in. The Hi-1 setting, equivalent to approx 3200ISO is there and depending on subject you may be able to use it but for my taste it is a little over the top in the noise department. The Hi-noise reduction system in the camera does help some, but at the expense of detail. All of the ISO adjustments, operated by pressing a button on the back of the camera and rotating the rear control wheel, are in 1/3rd stop increments, which is handy.”

ThinkCamera have reviewed the Samsung Digimax L85, which features 8-megapixels, 5x optical zoom (38-190mm - 35mm equivalent), 2.5-inch LCD display (230K pixels), full manual control and 11 preset scene modes.
“Let’s get over this one straight away. Our reviewer called the L85 “ugly” (in fact he compared it to a Trabant). Pictures of the Samsung L85 really don’t do it justice. It is bigger and bulkier than many of the compacts we see here at ThinkCamera but it has a very tactile rubberised finish that sets it apart from other cameras. Depending on your viewpoint this makes it “distinctive” or “retro”. Having lived with one for a couple of weeks I found the L85 growing on me.”

The-Digital-Picture.com have taken a look at the new Tamron SP AF 17-50mm F2.8 XR Di lens.
“Build quality is not rugged, but it is solid - very adequate I’d say. The included hood is similarly built. The rubber on the zoom ring is grippy, soft and deeply ribbed. The zoom and focus rings turn smoothly. Tamron’s rear lens cap only attaches at one position - a bit of a pain since I’m used to Canon’s 3 attachment positions. Tamron’s excellent center-pinch 67mm front cap more than makes up for this pain - I’ve considered putting these on my Canon lenses - And many of Sigma’s lenses desperately need them.”

ThinkCamera have reviewed the new Kodak Easyshare P880 digital camera. The Kodak Easyshare P880 is an 8 megapixel model with wide-angle 24-140 mm zoom lens and 2.5 inch LCD screen.
“Image quality is rather good on the P880. On previous Kodaks, I have commented on the out of focus areas looking plasticky or smeared. The P880 seems free of this fault and pictures look smooth and natural throughout.”

TrustedReviews have taken a look at the Canon PIXMA MP830 all-in-one.
“When it comes to the quality of the prints, regular text comes out clear and dense and solid graphics are just that, solid and with no signs of banding. Photos also come out well, with good colours and fine detail. The only blot on the landscape is those duplex prints, again. Text looks thin and a bit ragged and on closer examination, ink is not evenly distributed and the paper nap shows through.”

“My tests show it has the worst shutter lag of any camera I’ve tested to date. Sadly, the Digimax’s deficiencies don’t end here: The camera also has serious autofocus problems. Many point-and-shoot cameras have one or two lighting conditions that give their autofocus trouble. The L85 had problems in many different situations: low light, bright light, high contrast. More often than not, I had to find another angle to shoot from in order to achieve proper focus in the scene. “

The Sigma SD14 digital SLR camera has been announced today via the increasingly popular teaser website tactic. Consequently, only the SD14 name and the rather cryptic “Full Color Capture Direct Image Sensor” have been unveiled. We have a meeting arranged at Photokina with Foveon on the Sigma stand, so assume that the SD14 will have a Foveon sensor. Also revealed is the official announcement date, which is the first day of the show, September 26th. Thanks to Bob van Ooik for the tip.

Brand Loyalty among Digital Camera Buyers Falls Significantly as Increasing Choices Diminish Product Differentiation - Nikon, Kodak, Canon and Olympus Lead the Industry in Satisfying Digital Camera Owners
WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif.: 24 August 2006 — As increasing digital camera model offerings challenge perceived product differentiation among consumers, only 26 percent of digital camera buyers say they would purchase the same camera brand in the future—down from 35 percent in 2005, according to the J.D. Power and Associates 2006 Digital Camera Satisfaction StudySM released today. The study measures customer satisfaction among buyers of digital cameras in four price segments: $199 or less, $200-$399, $400-$599 and $600 or more. Overall customer satisfaction has declined to 805 points (on a 1,000-point scale) in 2006—down from 816 points in 2005. Satisfaction among buyers in the high-end segment ($600 or more) has increased 12 index points versus 2005.

The “high-speed series” will offer a maximum data transfer rate of 5-megabytes (MB) a second, while the “ultra high-speed series” will push transfer rates to as high as 20MB per second, double the rate of any other Toshiba-brand SD Cards. Nikonians Press Release
The 1,600 suppliers from 50 countries at this year’s “World of Imaging” Photokina in Cologne, Germany will be joined by the fastest growing international community of Nikon-oriented photographers on the Internet.
(PRWEB) August 29, 2006—Nikonians have been attending the world’s largest photography trade show for more than 40 years. They just didn’t have an internationally recognized name, or a global Internet web-site to help them get organized — until now. It was the Cologne, Germany Photokina in 1960 when the famous Nikon F appeared with praise from a new breed of fans. These fans had to wait nearly 40 years to define themselves under the name Nikonians. The biggest difference between the first Photokina held in Cologne, Germany in 1950 to the 2006 edition is that Nikon is now a major participant and the brand’s users have organized to form a powerful international community. This year, they are not just fans and supporters of the Nikon brand. They are actively promoting excellence in photography by sharing their knowledge through the Nikonians community.
