“Compared to the SP2100/2200, the R2400 is a stylish looking printer, but lacks the solid feel of the 2100. There is no doubt that the 2100 is a better built printer, but it’s the output that counts, and on this account the R2400 leaves the 2100 as runner up. It’s a pity that Epson couldn’t have made the R2400 cartridges compatible with the 2100, but then I guess Epson want you to buy a new printer. In this respect Canon has remained loyal to its customers by keeping the same ink tanks for all their printers, a point that is appreciated by users.”

It’s inexpensive, but for most people looking at $900 cameras, a $1,000 camera is within reach, and they are all better buys. Its 6-megapixel CCD and midlevel feature set look somewhat old hat at this writing, but the camera’s Anti-Shake mechanism, which continuously repositions the CCD to counteract blur caused by camera movement, is unique among dSLRs. Strong performance and thoughtful design round out this decent-shooting camera, which deserves a look from any entry- to midlevel dSLR buyer but especially from those who already own a Maxxum lens or two.”

DIWA member LetsGoDigital have reviewed the ColorVision Spyder2 Plus. Dubbed the “Digital Darkroom in a Box”, Spyder2 Plus is a suite of tools for colour calibration and digital imaging. ColorVision Spyder2 Plus has a recommended price of $269.

“The Spyder2 package is very easy to use, and shows a remarkable difference in going from an uncalibrated screen to a calibrated one. I also tested the Spyder2 to see the difference between a “software calibrated” screen and the same screen calibrated using Spyder2. Using the ‘before and after’ calibration feature shows a vast difference between the two. At a glance it seems that colours are more saturated, more accurate and shades become somewhat more detailed.”

DigiCamReview have just reviewed the compact 4.1 Megapixel Fujifilm FinePix F440 Zoom.

“Image quality is very good: The images have excellent, rich saturated colour with good contrast - some people may find the saturation a bit high and unfortunately the only control to customise this is one which increases(!) saturation and contrast - so you will need to make sure you’re happy with the camera’s colour reproduction before buying. Images are a bit soft, but have good detail. Purple fringing was low. The camera did a good job focusing outside - but in low-light was very poor at focusing. There is a good range of image sizes but a poor choice of compression options. The macro mode is fairly average. Auto white balance and metering seemed to be good. The movie mode is very poor.”
