Shutterbug Magazine have published their review of the A4 HP Photosmart 7960 printer.
“Thanks to the new photo gray ink, the HP 7960 is also an ideal printer for making black & white photos, particularly on Premium Plus Glossy photo paper. Start with a neutral image—not sepia, for example—and your prints should not exhibit any apparent color cast. There’s no need to make any adjustments—using trial and error experimentation with various types of paper—as with some other printers. My best monochrome prints match the level of quality that I expect from a pro lab, with rich dark blacks, luminous whites and accurate mid-tones.”

DIWA member LetsGoDigital have reviewed the new Fujifilm FinePix F10 Zoom, which has an ISO range of 80 to 1600, Super CCD sensor with 6.1 megapixels and a 2.5 inch LCD screen.
“The results achieve by the Fujifilm FinePix F10 really appealed to me. True-to-nature colour rendition and bright images containing detail. In short, the camera lives up to its expectations. It’s a no-nonsense digital camera with the latest technique on the field of image processing and with the newest image sensor. Here and there I had some comments but all in all the Fujifilm FinePix F10 gives you value for money. The high resolution images offer the user the possibility to do more with the images than just viewing them on the monitor. For example, printing the data through a digital mini-lab or on the printer at home or printing a cropped image to poster size; it’s all within the possibilities of the Fujifilm F10.”

Digital Camera Review have just reviewed the 3 megapixel Canon PowerShot SD200 Digital ELPH (also known as the IXUS 30).
“The Canon Powershot SD200 is the entry-level model in Canon’s latest line of ultra-compact digital cameras. Together with the SD300, SD400 and SD500 (although the last is a tad larger than the other three), they represent the new generation of Powershot cameras that are characterized by a thin profile, the inclusion of the second generation DIGIC processor, and the capability of capturing video with high enough quality for inclusion into homemade DVD discs. Although the SD200 if the least expensive of the group, it still shares many of the features of its higher-megapixel siblings and sports a 3.2 megapixel sensor, with enough resolution to make fine 8” x 10” prints.”

CameraHobby have reviewed the Lensbaby 2, a lens for SLR cameras that brings one area into sharp focus whilst creatively blurring the rest of the photograph.
“The Lensbaby 2.0 is a rather interesting beast compared to the original Lensbaby. Increased resolution and quality are definite pluses and nearly on par with a good prime lens. For users who liked what the Lensbaby offered for creative photos, but wanted better quality for the part of the photo that they wanted in focus, the Lensbaby 2 addresses that need.”

Shutterbug Magazine have posted their review of the new 8 megapixel Olympus E-300 / Evolt DSLR.
” The Olympus E-300 EVOLT may not be the prettiest camera in the world, but it’s compact, convenient to use, quite fast, and reliable in most circumstances. In my estimation, it should appeal to first-time SLR buyers who appreciate its many Program modes. But this well-equipped model is even more suitable for the experienced digital photographer who does not already own autofocus lenses of some other brand. At a street price of $995, including the 14-45mm zoom, it’s definitely a bargain, especially when compared to the $1299 street price of the 5-megapixel E-1 kit.”

Bob Atkins has posted a brief round-up of portable storage devices, including the SmartDisk FlashTrax (pictured).
“Second you can get a full features portable hard drive with image display. These are similar to the simple devices, but they have a color LCD on which you can view any of the images on the drive (assuming they are JPEGs). They also often let you play “slide shows” of your images and sometimes they have a connection so that you can play images on a TV monitor. Since they do more, they cost more, typically $400+”

DPReview have published their review of the new 7 megapixel Samsung Digimax V700.
“The V700 is the first Samsung camera we’ve ever tested on dpreview, and to be honest we were fairly sceptical that a camera offering so much at a price well below similarly-specified cameras from the mainstream manufacturers could possibly deliver on its promise. So does it? In a word, partially. In many respects the V700 can hold its own when compared to significantly more expensive models such as the Canon S70 or Olympus C-7000Z. It has a very comprehensive set of photographic controls (which aren’t hidden away in menus), a good lens producing superb resolution and a well-rounded feature set that combines user-friendly ‘point and shoot’ ease with proper enthusiast control. It also produces bright, sharp results that make very appealing prints, though purists will find that even after tweaking the various parameters the images are a little too ‘over processed’ (and a little noisy) for their liking.”

Luminous Landscape have just published a review of the ColorEyes Display, an inexpensive monitor calibration product.
“Many people will think so, and find that the idea of paying another $175 for specialty software an unnecessary expenditure. But for those that want to refine their colour workflow to the greatest extent possible, ColorEyes Display from Integrated Color Corporation may be what they’re looking for. ($300 with a bundled XRite colorimeter). ColorEyes is available for both Macs and PCs, and users are allowed to install the software on up to three computers.”

Photo-i have reviewed the new A3+ printer from the HP, the Photosmart 8750, which was announced at PMA in February.
“As far as monochrome printing (B/W to you photographers) goes, HP still packs a good punch. The prints I produced didn’t display any colour cast whatsoever. I tried sending a file to the printer which was greyscale but in RGB and printed it as if it were a colour file. There was a very slight shift towards cyan but nothing when compared to the competition. Printing the same file but with the Greyscale box checked in the HP print dialogue panel produced a totally neutral grey print. I can’t fault this printer for monochrome printing.”

DIWA member Steves Digicams have reviewed the Canon Digital IXUS 50, a 5 megapixel digital camera with stainless steel finish that is Canon’s smallest ever 5.0 Megapixel optical zoom camera. The Canon IXUS 50 features a 3.0x zoom, a large 2.0” LCD screen and high quality VGA video clips at 30fps.
“The SD400’s lens is an excellent piece of glass. It has a flexible zoom range of 35-105mm in 35mm equivalence, providing a moderately wide field of view for interior and scenic shots, and telephoto coverage useful for portraits and to bring your distant subjects closer. The lens exhibits noticeable barrel distortion at wide angle, but no pin cushioning at telephoto. Chromatic aberrations are well controlled, with only the slightest amount of purple fringing detectable in high contrast areas. The lens produces sharp results from corner to corner, and is a good match for the SD400’s 5-megapixel imager.”

PC Magazine are first off the mark with their review of the very new Epson PictureMate Deluxe Viewer Edition printer.
“When we reviewed the original PictureMate, we said that we’d like it even better if it had a color LCD for previewing images, but that was the only important trick it missed. The PictureMate Deluxe Viewer Edition adds that missing color LCD, as well as faster printing and a few more tricks. And, indeed, we like it even better.”

PC Magazine have reviewed the new Fujifilm FinePix F10 Zoom, which has an ISO range of 80 to 1600, Super CCD sensor with 6.1 megapixels and a 2.5 inch LCD screen.
“In the realm of digital photography, it seems that behind all promising new technology lies a trade-off. Such is the case with Fuji’s Real Photo Technology, which is built into the new 6.3-megapixel FinePix F10 digital camera. Fuji claims that the algorithm included in the F10 lets you shoot in low-light situations, such as candlelight or night scenes, without a flash, yet avoid blurred photographs. Too good to be true, right? The answer is a qualified “yes.”“
