In general, all the major manufacturers know what sells and what doesn’t, and aim to make new designs with higher resolution, faster maximum apertures or extended zoom range. On the whole they aren’t terribly interested in trying something radically different from anything they’ve done before – and understandably so.

Previously known as Venus Lens, have a repertoire of interesting manual focus lenses. This new 15mm f/4 optic is ultra-wide angle, covers a full 35mm frame, is a macro lens and in addition, has 6mm shift. An amazing proposition, so let's see if the performance matches the promise.

You may not have heard of the company Venus Optics before as it is quite a new optics company from China. But just like some other new Chinese optics companies, they have already created a few very interesting camera lenses. The lens I’m reviewing this time is their Laowa 15mm F/4 Wide Angle Macro, the first 1:1 macro ultra wide angle lens in the world.
