The Nikkor Z 35mm ƒ1.4 lens was not the lens release we were expecting, but actually glad to have. This is especially so after the heavyweight Nikkor Z 85mm ƒ1.2 and Nikkor Z 135mm ƒ2 Plena releases in the prime lens category and rumour mills predicting an S-line 35mm ƒ1.2 instead.

Nikon’s Z 35mm f1.4 is an interesting entry into a third line of Z-mount prime Nikkors: much smaller and lighter (physically and price-wise) than an f1.2 version would be it offers a 2/3 stop better light gathering power, better Bokeh, plus a separate focus and control ring over the Z 35mm f1.8 S at a lower price.

I like the compact, lightweight design of the Nikon Z 35mm f/1.4 and that its fast f/1.4 aperture enables quick shutter speeds and a tight depth of field. It’s one of my favorite focal lengths and the lens is designed to work well for shooting movies as well as stills. It’s a win-win!
