Epson Perfection V700 Review at Imaging Resource

Epson Perfection V700 PhotoImaging Resource have reviewed the Epson Perfection V700 Photo scanner.

“We’ve used the V700 for nearly all our scanning, from simple copier tasks through high resolution film scans for prepress. No matter what we threw at it, it never missed a beat. With one of the highest scan resolutions available in a desktop model at 6400 dpi and a dual lens design that can digitize a slide at 2400 dpi in a minute, that’s no surprise. Indeed, VueScan author Ed Hamrick cites it as one of the best high-end flatbeds. “

Konica Minolta DiMAGE Scan Elite 5400 II Review at Imaging Resource

Konica Minolta DiMAGE Scan Elite 5400 IIImaging Resource have reviewed the Konica Minolta DiMAGE Scan Elite 5400 II film scanner, the successor to the popular Scan Elite 5400 model.

“What impressed us especially was how easy it was to confuse a color negative conversion with a slide capture. We didn’t find much fault with the 5400’s negative conversion and there’s little evidence of the new Film Expert Algorithm in the 5400 II. You don’t, that is, have to select a film type (as you do in VueScan). We threw a very oddly colored Kodak Gold 200-2 emulsion at it and got a very nice conversion (VueScan handled this well, too).”

VueScan Review at About Graphics

Hamrick SoftwareAbout Graphics have just reviewed VueScan from Hamrick Software, a third-party scanner software application.

“If not for VueScan, my project would not have been possible with the scanner I’d bought for the project. With the batch processing and infrared cleaning options in VueScan, not only was the project possible — it was a breeze. After a few trial passes to adjust my settings, I was able to save my options to a file and reload them each time I started a slide scanning session. Once my settings were loaded, I only needed to load the scanner’s slide tray and press the scan button. VueScan did the rest, saving each file with a custom name and serial number, while I worked on other things. “

Microtek ScanMaker i900 Review at Imaging Resource

Microtek ScanMaker i900Imaging Resource have published a review of the Microtek ScanMaker i900 flatbed scanner.

“Looking for a scanner that can handle film as well as flats is like looking for a camcorder that can take great stills. If you ever did find one, no one would believe you. They really address different problems. But the i900 attacks the problem with a large dual bed design, adequate optical resolution precisely controlled for multiple scans and a high DMax to capture shadow detail. And Microtek supplies the IT8 targets you need to calibrate it. Our tests showed that whether we ran it from ScanWizard Pro, SilverFast Ai or VueScan, we were able to get excellent results with both flats and film (positive and negative). We’re starting to wonder about that dual-purpose camcorder and even the Fountain of Youth.”

VueScan Review at Photo-i

Hamrick SoftwarePhoto-i have just reviewed VueScan from Hamrick Software, a third-party scanner software application.

“Just to keep the review totally fair, I scanned the same transparency on both the Epson 4870 and the Canon 9950F. Canon’s ScanGear (an interface which I don’t rate) did a very good job with the colours and produced some nice looking scans. EpsonScan and the 4870 also produced a good looking scan. VueScan made a mess of the Canon 9950F’s capabilities, but worked marginally better with the Epson scanner. I can only conclude that supporting over 400 scanners is too ambitious, perhaps this number should be reduced and more attention given to individual scanners.”

Hamrick Software's VueScan Saves Marriage

Hamrick SoftwareHamrick Software Press Release

Used extensively by professional photographers, film processing labs and consumers around the world, VueScan 8.1.30 offers an enhanced, user-friendly interface with support for raw files for 109 digital cameras, and support for more than 400 scanners, including all Canon and Epson scanners

PHOENIX, Feb. 14 /PRNewswire/—When a married couple became embroiled in a bitter argument over the poor condition of the pictures in their wedding album, they didn’t go to a marriage counselor, but to Professor “A.”

Owned and operated by Alec Fromm, Professor “A,” based in Mississauga, Ontario, is an independent training service for Apple’s Mac OS X operating system. Alec agreed to help the couple restore their wedding memories. Even though a “professional photographer” took the pictures, Alec determined that the black & white and color 35mm negatives were underexposed and improperly processed for the types of film used. How could this marriage be saved?

Alec turned to Hamrick Software’s, VueScan, the award-winning program that lets users easily produce better looking digital images from color snapshots, negatives, slides, and documents. Using VueScan, Alec was able to capture the film data at a level that allowed him to manipulate the images to a point where the output was astounding, when compared to the original prints.

Imaging Resource Reviews VueScan

Hamrick SoftwareImaging Resource have just reviewed VueScan from Hamrick Software, a third-party scanner software application.

“Flatbed or film, you can’t buy a scanner without scanner software. So this market is a tough nut to crack. Your competition has an inside angle.

For a while, anyway. Then you upgrade your operating system or change hardware and suddenly your scanner isn’t supported by the manufacturer anymore.

VueScan has been the lifesaver of the scanner world by supporting older hardware on new platforms even when the manufacturer throws in the towel. The VueScan solution has worked for pioneers on OS X with no place to turn as well as Windows and Linux users with no supported driver.”
