The LaCie Network Space is a new networked attached storage (NAS) and media server. The new SanDisk Extreme III 30MB/s Edition SDHC card sets a speed record of 30 megabytes per second, a 50% speed boost from previous 20MB/s cards. The Nikon D90 is the first DSLR camera to support SanDisk Extreme III 30MB/s Edition SDHC cards at increased performance. When placed in SanDisk’s new ImageMate Multi-Card USB 2.0 Reader/Writer, still images and video can be transferred from the new SanDisk Extreme III card to a computer up to 30MB/s. The SanDisk Extreme III SDHC 30MB/s Edition cards are expected to be available worldwide in September, priced at $64.99 for the 4GB card, $109.99 for the 8GB card, and $179.99 for the 16GB card.

Eye-Fi and Nikon have collaborated to deliver enhanced integration of Eye-Fi wireless memory cards with the new Nikon D90 DSLR. The D90 detects when an Eye-Fi card is inserted and manage its power settings to ensure that photos upload for sharing and storing. In addition, the Nikon D90 includes an Eye-Fi menu that allows users to turn the wireless function on or off. “This is a great example of how a non-wireless camera can be optimized for the Eye-Fi card to create the best experience possible. Together, we continue to find ways to make taking, saving and sharing digital memories as automatic and effortless as possible.” said Yuval Koren, chief product officer and co-founder of Eye-Fi.

X-Rite have revealed further details about the built-in display calibration solution that they developed for the Lenovo ThinkPad W700 laptop, which was announced last week. X-Rite adaptted it’s hueyCOLOR technology for the W700, embedding it into the mobile workstation’s palm-rest. “X-Rite is pleased to have worked with an industry leader like Lenovo to introduce the first embedded notebook calibration solution. The JOBO S4 Mobile Photo Display is a new 3.5 inch digital picture frame. The S4 uses a rechargeable lithium-ion battery for up to 2-1/2 hours of continuous use, and is available in two frame colors, black and white. The 3.5-inch TFT display features a resolution of 320 x 240 pixels with 65,000 colors displayed. The JOBO S4 Mobile Photo Display is available for €49.90.

The Lenovo ThinkPad W700 is the first laptop to feature a built-in graphics tablet and color calibrator. The Lenovo W700 can display up to the 72 percent wide color gamut of the Adobe RGB colour-space and offers a 7-in-1 multicard reader and five USB ports. It can be configured with up to 8 GB of memory with an additional 2 GB of Intel Turbo Memory, which should help keep Photoshop happy. The ThinkPad W700 mobile workstation will be available beginning in September with models starting at $2,978.

The Epson P-6000 and P-7000 are new multimedia photo viewers offering bigger hard drive capacities, faster download speeds and an advanced LCD screen. Billed by Epson as a “compact, premium on-location back-up and viewing solution”, the P7000 and P6000 both feature a 4-inch, 640x480 Photo Fine Premia screen which displays 94% of the Adobe RGB colour gamut. Download speeds are up to 35 percent faster than previous models, and 80Gb and 160Gb versions are available. Available in September, the Epson P-6000 costs $599.99 / £449.99 and the Epson P-7000 $799.99 / £549.99.

In a recent J.D. Power and Associates survey, photographers were most satisfied with the Canon EOS and Nikon D series of DSLR cameras. Each received a score of 823 out of 1000 in the 2008 Digital Camera Usage and Satisfaction Study, with Canon being praised for picture quality, and Nikon for ease of operation, performance, and appearance and styling. In the other categories, the Fujifilm Finepix S series was the highest point and shoot model, the Canon PowerShot G series and the Lumix (Panasonic) DMC-TZ series tied in premium point and shoot, and Sony Cyber-shot T series topped the ultra slim segment.

The Leaf AFi 10 is a new 56 megapixel medium format camera system. The new 56x36mm Leaf TWF sensor delivers 56 megapixel resolution across the entire width of the Leaf AFi 10’s 6x6 sensor area. Together with the new Leaf ‘Verto’ technology, the TWF sensor can be rotated internally, allowing you to take photos in both landscape and portrait orientations. The Leaf AFi 10 will cost £21,995 ex VAT and be available in Q4 2008.

The new Freecom Mobile Drive XXS is the world’s smallest 2.5-inch external hard drive. Weighing in at just 155g, the Mobile Drive XXS is 27% smaller than its closest competitor, but still offers up to 320GB of mobile backup. The Freecom Mobile Drive XXS will be available from the end of July 2008, priced at £44.99 for the 160Gb, £59.99 for the 250Gb, and £79.99 for the 320Gb.

The Imaging Source have launched a new series of affordable telescope cameras for astro-photography. Starting at $350.00 / EUR 290.00, the telescope cameras use low noise CCD chips from Sony, which have an exposure time of up to 60 minutes and a maximum frame rate of up to 60 fps. All camera parameters, such as exposure, sensitivity and frame rate, can be set using the graphical user interface. The Imaging Source telescope cameras ship in blue and black anodized aluminum and zinc housing, measure 50 mm x 56 mm and weigh 260g.

Leica USA is starting its Leica M8 Upgrade Service on October 1, 2008. Options range in price from $330 for a Vulcanite leatherette body, to $1,450 for a silent shutter and sapphire LCD cover glass. All upgrades to the silent shutter will receive a free $150 Leica voucher that can be used toward the purchase of any new serialized Leica product. Leica M8 owners are encouraged to schedule their upgrade in advance, beginning on August 1, 2008.

The new Sinar arTec camera system is specifically designed for digital architectural photography. Developed in close cooperation with the architectural photographer Rainer Viertlböck, digital camera backs from Sinar and Leaf with Sinar Hy6/Leaf AFi interface can be attached to the Sinar arTec camera. The new Sinar arTec camera system will make its first public appearance at Photokina 2008 in Cologne, Germany, and will be available in fall 2008.
