PrinterInfo have reviewed the Epson Stylus Photo R2400 A3+ photo printer.

“The R2400 certainly shined in our photo print quality tests. It scored much higher than any printer yet tested for color accuracy and color gamut. While the density of the blackest blacks was not as high as we’d like to see for a printer with such exceptional black-and-white printing capabilities, the R2400 produced very nice quality black-and-white prints, with a wide tonal range and good contrast.”

The HP C5280 All-in-One offers print speeds up to 32 pages per minute (ppm) black, 24 ppm color, plus as fast as 27 seconds for photos. Estimated U.S. street price of the HP C5280 All-in-One is $149, available June 2007.

The HP D7460 printer can print up to 34 pages per minute (ppm) black and 33 ppm color, and photos in as fast as 10 seconds. Built-in wireless connectivity, a 3.5-inch touchscreen LCD and an optional HP Inkjet Automatic Two-sided accessory complete the headline features. Estimated U.S. street price of the HP D7460 is $179, available August 2007.

The HP D7260 Printer can print a 4 x 6-inch photo printing in as fast as 10 seconds. It also includes a 3.5 inch interactive touchscreen LCD, HP Smart Web Printing, HP Auto Sense technology and six individual ink tanks. Estimated U.S. street price of the HP D7260 is $149, available August 2007.

The Epson DX4400 Series of A4 size all-in-one devices features Epson DURABrite Ultra Ink, 25ppm printing speeds, print resolution of 5760dpi, and a 600dpi scanner. TrustedReviews have reviewed the Kodak 5300 printer, which promises to save customers up to 50% on everything they print.

“The Kodak printer does much better with photo prints. Our test landscape is crisply reproduced, with very smooth colour gradations, good shadow detail and plenty of fine detail in the foreground, too. Colours look natural and the machine copes well with slight changes in colour.”

HP have unveiled Print 2.0, the company’s strategy for making printing more relevant. HP plans to make it easier to print from websites, extend its digital content creation and publishing platforms, and target high-volume commercial markets. “In today’s world of ‘mashed media’ – words, pictures, video, songs – the question becomes ‘How will people publish this content?’ Print 2.0 is the answer. This vision centers on empowering our customers to create and consume their content, their way.” commented Vyomesh Joshi, executive vice president of HP’s Imaging and Printing Group.

The Epson D92 is a four-colour inkjet printer which uses DURABrite Ultra pigment ink and individual ink cartridges. The D92 offers lab quality photo prints up to A4 size borderless and laser like text, resistant to water, smudging and fading and ideal for printing on all types of media. The Epson D92 costs £39.99, available June 2007, with ink cartridges for £6.99 and a value multipack containing all 4 cartridges also available.

HP inkjet cartridges consistently outperformed 13 different brands of refilled cartridges in all areas, in tests conducted by QualityLogic. HP inkjet cartridges printed 57.5% more pages, on average, and were far more reliable. “This study simply reinforces what we have long known to be true – that Original HP inkjet cartridges are more reliable and a better value for our customers,” said Tuan Tran, VP of Sales and Marketing, Supplies, Imaging and Printing Group, HP.

Photo-i have started an interactive group test of three pigment based printer - the HP B9180 (pictured), Canon Pro 9500 and Epson 2400.

“Generally I hate doing group tests, I prefer to cover each printer in greater depth. However, over the last three years I have covered all three printers with their own interactive reviews. Believe it or not the Epson was reviewed in June 2005, which makes this printer the oldest in the group. Perhaps it may be unfair to include the Epson against the other two, but I have confidence that it will hold its own. This review is a supplement to the individual reviews, I will be giving scores as I go along. Please don’t compare my results next to those from the original reviews as these marks may no longer be valid, technology has moved on and I will mark them against today’s bench mark.”

The Canon iPF6100 and Canon iPF5100 are two new large-format printers featuring automatic colour calibration (first seen on HP’s Z-series printers). Announced by Canon Australia via the Wide Format On-Line website, the new iPF6100 and iPF5100 are 24 inch and 17 inch printers respectively, and both have 12 ink sets including black, matte black, grey and photo grey. Canon have also implemented a new colour management system dubbed Kyuanos. Available in Australia in July and August, we’re yet to hear anything about availability of the Canon iPF6100 and Canon iPF5100 in the rest of the world.

Update: Canon USA have now released details about the iPF6100 and iPF5100 printers. The Canon iPF6100 will be avilable in June for $3,495.

PrinterSpot have reviewed the Kodak 5300 printer, which promises to save customers up to 50% on everything they print.

“The Kodak EasyShare 5300 delivers on its biggest promise: to save you money on supplies like ink and paper. Kodak should be applauded for taking the lead on this, and it’s in everyone’s interest if the other manufacturers follow suit. However, the 5300 is marred by sluggish print speeds, a lackluster feature set, and bugs both in the printer and the accompanying software. The ES5300 makes good quality prints (on the right paper), but ultimately there are better options out there.”

Kodak have unveiled independent test results that confirm the company’s claim of saving customers up to 50 percent on everything they print. Third-party testing lab QualityLogic compared the Kodak EasyShare 5300 All-in-One printer to 12 other industry-leading printers. The analysis confirmed that in every case, Kodak EasyShare AIO printers offer consumers more pages for every $5 of ink purchased.

HP has expanded its graphic arts portfolio at the 2007 HP Graphic Arts Summit. New large format solutions include the HP Designjet Z6100 Printer series, two new HP Indigo presses and the HP Indigo UV Coater. “The digital solutions announced today are not only easy to use, cost-effective and high quality, but also enable commercial printers to grow their businesses with broader service offerings and increased profit margins,” said Stephen Nigro, senior vice president, Graphics and Imaging Business, HP.

Photo-i have started an interactive review of the long-delayed pigment based Canon PIXMA Pro 9500 A3+ professional printer.

“Looking at the size of each Canon cartridge I wonder just how much ink they contain, I will try to find this out. The HP cartridge contains 27ml and an Epson R2400 contains approx 14ml. Having said that, I couldn’t imagine bigger cartridges fitted in a print head assembly that moves up and down the print rail. I am surprised that Canon didn’t incorporate a static ink system as with their large format printers - this would mean a totally new design from the Pro 9000 chassis. But then HP did do that with the B9180.”

ePhotoZine have just reviewed the Epson Stylus Photo 1400 A3+ six-colour photo printer.

“Speedwise, the Epsons have never been fast and this is certainly the case here. The claimed speed is a 10x8in image on A4 paper, so not even using all of it, in 111 seconds, or nearly two minutes. Now, this is a fairly useless claim because the entire point of an A3 printer is to print in A3. Printing out 250dpi images at full A3 size took around 8mins 45secs each time which is fairly pedestrian.”

The Canon CP740 and Canon CP750 are two new additions to the SELPHY dye-sub printer lineup. Introducing Red-Eye Correction to the CP series, the CP730 has a 2.4 inch LCD screen and the CP720 a 2 inch screen. Prints from both models will last for up to 100 years. The new Canon CP730 and Canon CP720 printers will be available from May, priced at £79 / €116 RRP inc. VAT and £139 / €204 RRP inc. VAT respectively.

Kodak’s new range of All-In-One inkjet printers will be sold in the UK through PC World, Currys and Currys.digital outlets from June 2007. “When Kodak announced its new EasyShare line of all-in-ones (AIOs), it garnered a lot of attention. Not only was Kodak venturing into new territory with AIOs aimed for the home and home office, it claimed its ink prices were low enough to cut printing costs by up to half compared with the competition. I tested the first EasyShare AIO—the Kodak EasyShare 5300 All-In-One printer ($200 street)—and the news is largely good. The 5300 may not be a home run, but it’s at least arguably a triple, and that’s not bad for a first time at bat.”
