The YI M1 is a new compact system camera with a 20.2-megapixel FourThirds sensor, a Micro FourThirds lens mount, a 3" touchscreen, an 81-point CDAF system, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth LE connectivity and 4K video recording capabilities. Made in China, the YI M1 offers a mostly touchscreen-based user interface and comes in a single-zoom kit (￥2199, with a 12-40mm f/3.5-5.6 standard zoom) and a double-lens bundle (¥2999 including the camera body, the afore-mentioned standard zoom and a 42.5mm f/1.8 portrait lens). Live from Photokina! The Sony A99 II is a 42.4 megapixel compact system camera that can shoot at 12fps. Aimed at professional sports, action and wildlife photographers, the Sony A99 II also offers 5-axis image stabilisation and 4K video recording. Using the Sony A-mount, the A99 II can shoot up to ISO 102,400 and down to -4EV low light with 4.5 stops of image stabilisation. It offers 4K full pixel readout without any pixel binning with both 35mm full-frame and Super 35mm cropped modes.

The price? 3600 Euros, $3100 US dollars...

Sony is demonstrating its full range of digital imaging offerings at Photokina 2016. Located in Hall 5.2, the Sony booth will be open from 10:00 on Tuesday 20th September until 18:00 on Sunday 25th September. In addition to showcasing the full product line-up including the newly announced A99 II camera, Sony is offering a full programme of live talks and demonstrations. At these free talks, world-renowned photographers and filmmakers will be sharing their insights as well as their own personal and professional experiences of using Sony cameras and lenses. As part of the programme, there will also be a series of live action shows which attendees are invited to photograph including a celebration of Samurai sword artistry, professional break dancers and acrobats.

Panasonic have issued a firmware update for the Panasonic Lumix GX80 compact system camera. Version 1.1 adds an automated focus stackign function, whichenables users to take multiple images of the same frame with different areas in focus, then combine all or selected focus areas into one image. This firmware upgrade also adds other improvements to enhance the operability of the GX80. The Focus Bracket menu now has a Sequence function, which allows users to set the bracket images to be shot farther and closer from the initial focus position, or farther away. Also, Flash Mode can nowbe set to "forced-off" when using the built-in flash. You can download the firmware update from the website below.

The Panasonic LUMIX DMC-G80 is a compact system camera featuring 4K technologies, improved 5-Axis Dual Image Stabilisation and a splash/dust proof design. ThePanasonic DMC-G80 (also known as the Panasonic G85) features an updated Image Stabilization system – the 5-axis Dual I.S. Panasonic have announced that they are developing the successor to the GH4 compact system camera. The Panasonic GH5 will be released in the first half of 2017. The Lumix GH5 will feature 6K/30p 18mp, 8mp/60fps burst photo, 10-bit 4:2.2, 4K/60p and more. In collaboration with Leica, 3 new lenses will also be released - the 8-18mm, 12-60mm, 50-200mm Hybrid f2.8-4.0 Leica Zoom Lens series.

Dr Andreas Kauffman from Leica appeared onstage to elaborate upon Leica's long-standing relationship with Panasonic. He commented that “We have learned how to become friends during the last 15 years”. Leica and Panasonic renewed their partnership in 2016, and are working on many new products, including the three new lenses that have been announced today.

Profoto and Sony today announced their collaboration to expand markets for professional photographers and serious amateurs. This cooperation promises enhanced compatibility across Profoto flashes and light-shaping tools and Sony's interchangeable-lens cameras. “Profoto is very pleased to enter into this partnership with Sony, a front runner of groundbreaking digital imaging. This collaboration between two industry leaders in photography and light shaping provides a unique platform that will enable future innovations for the world’s best and most ambitious photographers. We are happy to announce the first step, the highly sought-after Profoto AirTTL for Sony α users,” says Anders Hedebark, CEO of Profoto. The Profoto Air Remote TTL-S (pictured) is a small, wireless radio transmitter that can be attached to your Sony camera’s hotshoe. The remote offers full TTL and HSS capability with Profoto’s Pro-10, D2, B1, and B2 flashes. The Air Remote TTL-S will be available in early 2017.

Hasselblad have announced that the Hasselblad X1D-50c camera is now shipping. The X1D is the World's first compact system camera with a medium-format sensor. In a tweet issued this morning, Hasselbald said "The first batch of #Hasselblad #X1D-50c has left our factory in Gothenburg, Sweden!".

The ZEISS Loxia 2.4/85 is a new portrait lens for Sony mirrorless full-frame cameras with E mount. The new Loxia 2.4/85 with its seven lens elements in seven groups has been designed for digital sensors and is based on an optimized ZEISS Sonnar design. The lens has a minimum object distance of 0.80 meters. The manual focus ring has a rotation angle of 220 degrees and enables the subtlest variations of focusing. The large aperture of f/2.4 combined with the high-quality optical design ensures an appealing bokeh. The electronic interface transfers lens data (EXIF) as well as focus movements. Global delivery of the ZEISS Loxia 2.4/85 will begin at the beginning of December 2016. The recommended retail sales price is 1,399 euros (including 19% VAT in Germany) or 1,399 US$.

The new Canon EOS M5 compact system camera features a 24.2 Megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor and Dual Pixel CMOS AF. The EOS M5 also has a DIGIC 7 processor, DSLR-level AF speed and accuracy, 9fps continuous shooting, and Full HD 60p movies. The EOS M5 body only will be available from end-November 2016 with an RRP of £1,049 / $979. The EOS M5 with the EF-M 15-45mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM lens will be available from end-November 2016 with an RRP of £1,149 / $1099. The EOS M5 with the new EF-M 18-150mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM lens will be available from mid-December 2016 with an RRP of £1,399 / $1479.

Also introduced today, the EF-M 18-150mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM is the ideal all-occasion lens for EOS M cameras, with a versatile 8.3x optical zoom and 4-stop Image Stabilizer for sharp, handheld shots. The EF-M 18-150mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM lens will be available from mid-December 2016 with an RRP of £429 / $499.

Zeiss have released a teaser for a new Sony A7-series lens on Facebook and Twitter. The announcement reads "Hey friends of the Sony α7! At photokina you will have the chance to test a new lens. The announcement will follow soon! What‘s your guess? #ZEISSphk16". From the design, we'd guess at a new manual focus Loxia...

The Tokina FíRIN 20mm F2 FE MF is a new wide-angle, manual focus lens for Sony E-Mount full frame mirrorless cameras. It is a perfect match to a Sony A7 series body in terms of design, high-precision Japanese made parts and form factor. The FíRIN 20mm F2 FE MF performs excellent optical abilities due to perfectly placed two all-glass precision molded aspherical elements with 3 Super-Low Dispersion (SD) glass lens elements. It has the ability to encode and transmit aperture, distance and optical data to the camera body making this lens fully suitable in terms of using MF assist function, 5 axis image stabilization and view finder electronic distance scale. The Tokina FíRIN 20mm F2 FE MF will be available in the First Quarter, 2017.

Fuji have announced the Wi-Fi enabled Fujifilm X-A3 compact system camera, featuring an APS-C sized 24.2-megapixel imager. Unlike its siblings, the new X-A3 forgoes the company's much-touted X-Trans sensor technology in favour of a more conventional Bayer colour filter array. Key highlights include a sensitivity range of ISO 200-6400 (expandable to ISO 25600), a tilting LCD touchscreen, 11 Film Simulation modes, 10 Advanced Filters, two command dials, an auto focus system with 49 selectable AF points plus Zone and Wide / Tracking modes that use 77 focus areas to capture a moving subject, an  extended battery life, and Full HD (1080/60p, 50p, 24p) video recording capabilities. Additionally, the Fujifilm X-A3 now features Panorama and Time-Lapse functions. In the UK, the X­-A3 will be available exclusively at Jessops from the end of September 2016, kitted with the Fujinon XC16­-50mm F3.5­5.6 OIS II lens, with an SRP of  £599.

The European Imaging and Sound Association (EISA) have honoured Sony with 5 awards in their 2016 round-up. The full-frame Sony RX1R II (pictured) has been chosen as this year's "European Premium Compact Camera," the A7S II has won the "European Photo & Video Camera 2016-2017" category, the A6300 has received the "European Prosumer Compact System Camera 2016-2017" award, while the Sony FE 85mm f/1.4 GM lens took the title of "European Professional Compact System Lens 2016-2017." (The fifth EISA award went to an in-car HD player.)

Fujifilm have announced that two of their products, the X-Pro2 mirrorless camera (pictured) and the Fujinon XF100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 R LM OIS WR lens, have been crowned winners at the recent 2016 EISA awards. The X-Pro2 has been named "European Professional Compact System Camera 2016-2017," whilst the XF100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 R LM OIS WR has won the "European Compact System Zoom Lens 2016-2017" category.

Sony has issued a firmware update for the Sony A7R II full-frame compact system camera. Version 3.30 adds support for the manufacturer's new proprietary radio-controlled lighting system and improves the stability of the camera while shooting still images (by regulating the internal temperature). Panasonic have announced that their Lumix GX80 compact system camera will be used by official photographer, Warren Little, to capture images at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. Having worked for Getty Images for 18 years, Warren is now covering the games with the GX80 and a selection of Lumix G lenses suitable for capturing a wide range of scenes. The camera features a 16-megapixel Live MOS sensor, 5-axis Dual Image Stabilisation and Panasonic’s 4K Photo technology, which lets you take a complete 4K video of an event and then select a single still frame from the footage. Images taken by Warren using the GX80 will be showcased on Panasonic’s social media platforms and across Panasonic’s website

Sony have issued a firmware update for the Sony A6300 compact system camera. According to the company, Version 1.10 "improves stability in picture shooting mode by optimizing temperature control" - i.e. addresses the camera's widely reported overheating issue - and improves overall operational stability.
