DCResource have reviewed the Panasonic DMC-TZ3 camera, which fits a 10x optical zoom, 7.2 megapixels and 3 inch LCD screen into a compact, stylish body.
“While it wasn’t perfect, I liked the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ1 enough to buy it for a family member. The new DMC-TZ3 doesn’t really improve on that camera’s weak spots—namely overaggressive noise reduction and a lack of manual controls—but it does add a really nice 28 - 280 mm lens and a big and beautiful 3-inch display. Yes, it has it’s flaws, but it’s a fun-to-use camera that offers a lot of zoom in a relatively small package.”

CNET have reviewed the Panasonic DMC-TZ3 camera, which fits a 10x optical zoom, 7.2 megapixels and 3 inch LCD screen into a compact, stylish body.
“The DMC-TZ3 performed admirably in our lab performance tests. The camera’s shutter lagged only 0.6 second for our high-contrast target and 1.3 seconds for in low-contrast conditions. We waited a mere 1.3 seconds between shots, and that wait increased to 2.4 seconds with the onboard flash enabled. Burst mode took five shots in just less than 2 seconds for a satisfying rate of 2.5 shots per second.”

DIWA member LetsGoDigital have reviewed the 7 megapixel, dual-lens Kodak Easyshare V705 camera.
“The colour reproduction is good and the Kodak EasyShare V705 camera is no longer exaggerating reproduction. The automatic white balance is not perfect, but a slight adjustment for the sort of light source filters the colour cast out of the picture adequately. The pictures are nice and sharp. The effects of the extreme wide-angle, especially the deviations were captured well by the software in the camera. Corrections are made accurately.”

Steves Digicams have reviewed the Canon Powershot A560 compact digital camera, which has a 7.1 megapixel sensor, 4x optical zoom lens, Face Detection Technology and Red-Eye Correction.
“Shooting performance was very robust, as long as you’re not using the flash. From power up to first image was captured measured just 1.6 seconds, and waking the camera from sleep mode to image capture took less than a second. Shutter lag, the delay between depressing the shutter button and capturing an image, was less than 1/10 of a second when pre-focused, and only 2/10 - 3/10 of a second including autofocus.”

CNET have reviewed the Canon PowerShot SD750 digital camera (also known as the IXUS 75) which has a metallic finish, 3x zoom lens and 3 inch LCD screen.
“It lacks the image stabilization of the SD800 IS and the tiny appeal of the SD1000, but the Canon PowerShot SD750 has a more elegant, cutting-edge design, large LCD and—to my eyes, at least—better photo quality.”

Steves Digicams have reviewed the new Olympus SP-550 UZ. This is the first digital camera to offer an 18x optical zoom lens, equivalent to 28-504mm.
“The SP-550’s high speed sequential shooting modes offer astonishing capture rates, but have limitations on image size, quality and ISO. Both modes require a minimum sensitivity setting of ISO 400. While ISO 400 introduces a noticeable amount of image noise, its use can also result in overexposure; the smallest lens aperture of f/8 and the fastest shutter speed of 1/2000 second are sometimes simply not enough to use ISO 400 in very brightly illuminated conditions.”

DPReview have also reviewed the Panasonic DMC-TZ3 camera, which fits a 10x optical zoom, 7.2 megapixels and 3 inch LCD screen into a compact, stylish body.
“And so then, the TZ3 is another fantastic Panasonic camera with a fantastic lens that struggles to impress if you look at the images too closely because of overblown noise reduction. It’s a classic example of a camera that will never do that well in a dpreview test because the output doesn’t look great at a pixel level, but that I would happily buy for myself for walkaround snapping.”

Megapixel.net have just reviewed the Panasonic DMC-TZ3 camera, which fits a 10x optical zoom, 7.2 megapixels and 3 inch LCD screen into a compact, stylish body.
“The Panasonic DMC-TZ3 is a relatively compact camera that manages to squeeze in a powerful 10X optical zoom that one would normally expect to see in a much larger body. Moreover, its controls are responsive and easy to use, and the effective optical stabilization makes it possible to take full advantage of the 10X zoom. The DMC-TZ3 offers a good image quality when photos are captured under good light, but is lower when the light is poor, making it well-suited to bright and sunny environments.”

DigiCamReview have taken a look at the distinctive Samsung NV7 digital camera.
“Image quality is good but not brilliant for an ultra compact digital camera - the images have good colour with very high saturation, good contrast, although noise is noticeable at all ISO settings. The higher ISO settings of ISO800 and ISO1000 were fairly disappointing and lacked colour. Detail seemed lower than expected, and images did appear slightly over-processed resulting in soft looking images. Indoors photos were good, but noise was high, and there was noticeable red eye.”

ePhotoZine have reviewed the Panasonic DMC-FX30, the world’s slimmest digital camera with a 28mm wide-angle lens.
“It renders landscapes quite well, with plenty of detail, though, the image quality isn’t first rate. This becomes very pronounced when looking at a portrait taken using a fairly low level of available light. Here, the skin tones get patchy, the quality is quite bitty and detail disappears in areas like the eyebrows. When looking at the noise tests and how the Venus processing engine handles noise reduction, there are distinct similarities. The ISO1250 test, loses detail but keeps the noise within an overall pattern that makes it useful. The portrait and landscape shots in lower light exhibit the same characteristics.”

Pentax cameras are being tested to the limits on Everest to document the largest ever medical expedition ever carried out on the mountain. The Caudwell Xtreme Everest team is using Pentax’s waterproof compact digital ‘W’ series cameras and digital SLRs, as they take take the first ever measurement of oxygen levels in human blood on the summit of Mount Everest. “Pentax’s Optio W20s are waterproofed for up to 1.5 metres for outdoor and underwater photography so are ideal for the extreme and snowy conditions encountered during the ascent to Everest base camp,” said Mac Mackenney, Caudwell Xtreme Everest Logistics Manager.

DCResource have the first online review of the Canon TX1 digital camera, which features a 10x optical zoom lens (39mm-390mm) with Optical Image Stabilization, 115,000-pixel Vari-Angle LCD screen and 7.1 megapixel sensor.
“The last of the big features on the PowerShot TX1 is its movie mode. While most cameras are still stuck at 640 x 480, Canon has blown them all away by supporting 720p recording on the TX1. For those who aren’t hip with HD jargon, that’s 1280 x 720 widescreen video at 30 frames/second (though true 720p is 60 fps). Sound is recorded in stereo at a higher sampling rate than normal (44 kHz), and there’s a wind filter for shooting outdoors. Did I mention that you can use both the optical zoom lens and image stabilizer while you’re filming?”

Steves Digicams have reviewed the new weatherproof Olympus Stylus 760. This is a 7.1 megapixel digital camera with 3x zoom (37-111mm), Dual Image Stabilization and a slim-line metal body.
“The overall image quality for this Stylus when using the SHQ mode is good for an 7.1- megapixel model. The majority of our samples showed good overall exposure and nice color saturation. I did notice a bit of edge softness, and average amounts of image noise were present in high and low contrast areas. The flower shots in our samples page were taken in overcast but still had little noise. Outdoor pictures captured nice sharp images in sunshine, with beautiful sky detail.”

CNET have reviewed the Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-W80, which offers 8 megapixels, 3x optical zoom lens, metal body, 2.5-inch LCD screen and an eye-level viewfinder.
“The W80 uses Sony’s new Bionz image processor, another first for the W-series. Despite its unfortunate name, Bionz seems to work very well. In CNET Labs’ tests, the W80 shot much faster than its little brother’s, lagging only 1.2 seconds between pictures. In burst mode, the camera captured 19 full-size photos in just 7.1 seconds for a fantastic 2.7 frames per second (FPS), far better than the W35 and W55’s 4-shot bursts of 1.4 fps.”

TrustedReviews have reviewed the Fujifilm FinePix Z5fd, the first in its range of ‘Z’ series cameras to feature hardware-based Face Detection technology.
“Focusing is extremely quick even in very low light. It had no problem coping with a dimly lit nightclub for instance. The Z5fd has no AF assist lamp, so it can’t focus in total darkness, but it performs better in low light than many cameras I’ve tested recently. Like most of the latest Fujifilm cameras the Z5fd has extremely good high ISO performance, producing excellent picture quality right up to 800 ISO, and acceptable quality at its maximum setting of 1600, so shooting in low light without the flash is at least possible if not really recommended.”

DIWA member LetsGoDigital have reviewed the the Fujifilm FinePix S6500fd (also known as the S6000fd), a 6 megapixel digital camera with a 10.7x zoom lens equivalent to 28-300mm.
“Now there are different forms of face detection, it can be purely based on software or through the hardware. Fujifilm has chosen for the hardware and that is at this moment without a doubt the best choice. Now face detection is nothing new to Fujifilm. For years they have gained experience at the mini labs and from that knowledge the photographer now really benefits. Fujifilm’s system works superb. Not only during photographing, face detection is handy, also when reviewing the images. You get familiar with it quickly and would not want to miss it. “

Imaging Resource have just reviewed the new 10 megapixel Olympus mju 1000 camera.
“The Stylus 1000 seems like it was shaved off a hunk of aluminum. At the thin end of the slice, the lens is tucked into the tapered curl. The design hides the greater-than-average thickness of this compact, but that thickness makes a very handy grip without the usual thumb pads and finger bars of other compacts. And it’s still small enough that you can easily find a place for it in any pocket.”

“As the newest Exilim in the Casio’s Card series, the S770 brings with it 7.2 megapixels and a wide 2.8-inch LCD screen. It carries on some traditions of the line, such as the skinny 0.7-inch profile, trendy appearance, and almost countless numbers of Best Shot scene modes.
