Pentax Optio S7Megapixel.net have just reviewed the new Pentax Optio S7 digital camera, which features an easy-to-use Blur Reduction High ISO mode, Face Recognition AF & AE and 7 megapixel sensor.

“Like many other compact cameras on the market nowadays, the Optio S7 is noticeably sensitive to noise, and at the highest image quality uses a compression that is stronger than we would prefer to see; both facets of a camera’s image quality that are most noticeable when the images are seen at 100% size. This said, just like many others, once The Optio S7’s images are printed, the flaws that are visible on a monitor, tend to disappear.”

Nikon Coolpix S10TrustedReviews have reviewed the new Nikon Coolpix S10, which has 6 megapixels, Vibration Reduction and a 10x, 38-380mm swivel lens.

“The S10 has a good range of ISO settings, and noise control is exceptionally good. Even at the maximum 800 ISO image noise and colour distortion are kept to an acceptable minimum, producing usable shots even at this setting. The only real problem with image quality is the amount of compression. The image files are about 2/3rds the size of those produced by most 6MP cameras, and some images have heavy artefacting as a result.”

Fujifilm FinePix S9600CNET have reviewed the new Fujifilm S9600 (called the FinePix S9100 in the USA), which is a 9 megapixel camera with a 10x zoom lens.

“At the top of Fujifilm’s line of consumer cameras sits the FinePix S9100, a 9-megapixel superzoom with a 10.7X optical, 28mm-to-300mm (35mm equivalent) f/2.8-to-f/4.9 zoom lens, and more features than you can shake an ultracompact at. But even with all those features, it is missing a very important one: image stabilization. Fuji talks big about its Picture Stabilization shooting mode, useful since it keeps your shutter speed fast and prevents blur. But it’s no substitute for optical or mechanical image stabilization, which can be found in numerous other superzooms.”

Casio EX-S770CNET have just reviewed the slim Casio EX-S770 camera, which offers 7.2 megapixel still images and records high-quality movies in MPEG-4 format.

“Despite a few quirks, the S770’s performance was excellent. The camera powers up in only 1.2 seconds and can take a shot every 1.3 seconds thereafter. With the onboard flash enabled, shot-to-shot time increases to a still satisfying 2.4 seconds. Shutter lag measures a speedy 0.4 second in bright light and only 1 second in dim light. Burst mode was sluggish, pumping out 24 full-resolution images in 33 seconds for a rate of 0.7 frame per second.”

Nikon Coolpix L6CNET have the first online review of the new 6 megapixel Nikon Coolpix L6 camera.

“While we were not pleased with the inability to select ISO, the Coolpix L6’s biggest drawback is its glacially slow performance, especially with flash enabled. If you can get past the fact that you’ll have to wait anywhere from 2.5 to 8.1 seconds between shots, and you like the idea of fully automated shooting, the Coolpix L6 could be a good choice. But your best bet is to spend a little extra cash and step up to a faster camera.”

Casio EX-Z700CNET have reviewed the Casio EX-Z700, a 7.2 megapixel update of the EX-Z600, with a large 2.7 inch LCD screen with a brightness of 1200cd/m2 and 2 new Best Shot modes.

“The camera’s otherwise clear images had a few irritating flaws. Colors were reproduced well, and fine details could be easily spotted in our subjects, except on the extreme left side of our photos, which suffered from blurring and distortion. The distorted area is only on the left edge; it can be easily cropped, but it’s a bother. This lens issue also manifests in significant purple fringing on the edges of near-white objects.”

Panasonic LUMIX DMC-LX2PopPhoto have just reviewed the new 10 megapixel Panasonic LUMIX DMC-LX2.

“In all, the Lumix DMC-LX2 is the kind of upgrade we like. It overcomes most of the weaknesses of the LX1, except for the limited flash range. And with its improved low-light noise reduction and image stabilization, you might not even care about the flash. What you’re sure to care about: this camera’s excellent image quality, delightful LCD, super Leica lens, and $500 street price.”

Olympus mju 750PopPhoto have reviewed the new Olympus Stylus 750, which features a 5x optical zoom, image stabilisation and 7 megapixels.

“Overall, we were happy with the images produced by the 7.1-megapixel CCD sensor. On-screen the photos appear sharp and vivid. In addition, they can be output to large-formats—up to poster sizes as large as 15 x 20 inches. We think users will enjoy the 750’s thin, sleek, take anywhere, all-weather design and the powerful 5x optical zoom.”

Olympus SP-510 UZDigital Trends have reviewed the 7 megapixel, 10x optical zoom Olympus SP-510 UZ.

“After filling the xD Picture card a few times, it was time to make some prints to check the results. After cranking out many full-bleed 8.5x11s, it was time to make a judgment. First off, you’re probably wondering how an image taken with ISO 4000 looks. In a word, terrible but it would be foolish to think a $329 point-and-shoot digicam could actually capture a quality image at that setting. Worse still, noise reared its ugly head at ISO 200 and at 400 it was much worse. If you buy this camera, don’t push the ISO at all—leave it on Auto.”

Panasonic LUMIX DMC-LX2Imaging Resource have just reviewed the new 10 megapixel Panasonic LUMIX DMC-LX2.

“Panasonic made quite a splash last year with photographers (and reviewers) when it released the LX1, a rangefinder-style shooter with a boatload of features that Imaging Resource’s own Mike Pasini called “an excellent little camera, and clearly one of the best bargains on the market.” Mike also said, in his review, that there was “nothing quite like” the LX1 at the time. That still holds true with the new Panasonic LX2.”

Olympus mju 750DCResource have reviewed the new Olympus Stylus 750, which features a 5x optical zoom, image stabilisation and 7 megapixels.

“Overall, the photo quality on the Stylus 750 is good, but not great. On the positive side, photos were well-exposed with pleasing, saturated colors. Purple fringing was well controlled. The bad news is that the camera seems to apply a lot of noise reduction to its photos, giving details a fuzzy appearance. Another place you can see this is in the sky—it’s mottled instead of just one solid color. Add in some softness around the edges and you’ve got photos that don’t look as good as I’d like. This photo is a great example of all the negatives I just mentioned. As I said before, none of this matters at small print sizes—but if you do enlargements, look out.”

Pentax Optio A10Imaging Resource have just reviewed the Pentax Optio A10, which features a shake reduction system, 8 megapixels and a 2.5 inch LCD screen.

“In keeping with its compact form factor—less than an inch thick—the Pentax A10 uses Pentax’s Sliding Lens System technology which removes elements from the lens’ optical path as it retracts to allow a slimmer profile when the camera is powered off. So while in a head to head comparison, the old OptioS “Altoids model” might be slightly smaller and lighter than the A10, it’s no match when it comes to firepower.”

Panasonic LUMIX DMC-LX2CNET have just reviewed the new 10 megapixel Panasonic LUMIX DMC-LX2.

“Which all begs the question: what do we gain by jumping to 10 megapixels? These are extremely small pixels, which equal extremely high noise. Panasonic’s noise-suppression algorithms work pretty well at high ISO speeds—400 to as high as 1,600—but at low ISO sensitivities such as 100, the images are quite noisy. The good news is that they print better than they look onscreen, though you’d be well-advised to avoid serious crops.”

Sony DSC-T10TrustedReviews have reviewed the Sony T10, a 7 slim megapixel digital camera with a 3x zoom lens, 2.5 inch LCD screen, optical image stabilization and a fastest ISO speed of 1000.

“Image quality is a bit of a mixed bag. As already mentioned, you’ll be noise free up to 200 ISO and the Super Steady Shot functionality should mean that you won’t have to dial things up much higher than that too often. The macro setting can also produce impressive results for a camera this compact. However, I did notice that the colours sometimes took on a garish look, no matter what colour setting I employed. Also, the flash had a habit of washing out detail on some shots, while being perfectly balanced on others. And because you’re constantly at the mercy of the T10’s automatic exposure settings, you have no real way of telling exactly what you’ll get.”

Pentax Optio W20ThinkCamera have reviewed the new Pentax Optio W20, a compact digital camera featuring waterproof performance with a slim, flat body design.

“The W20 has a waterproof casing but this doesn’t mean you can take the camera to the depths of the ocean because there are limitations due to pressure. The camera is only waterproof to JIS Class 8 which is 30 minutes at a depth of 1.5m. While this doesn’t immediately sound too impressive remember your typical compact can’t even touch water. This ability is more than OK for using on holiday while you are splashing about in the sea looking at fish or for a little snorkelling - and it is fine for the rain too.”

Fujifilm FinePix S6500fdTrustedReviews have reviewed the the Fujifilm FinePix S6500fd (also known as the S6000fd), a 6 megapixel digital camera with a 10.7x zoom lens equivalent to 28-300mm.

“Image quality is superb compared to most other 6MP cameras, thanks mainly to the quality of the lens. Despite its huge zoom range it manages to produce virtually no distortion at the wide angle end and is pin-sharp right across the frame. The 1/1.7in SuperCCD HR sensor appears to be that same one found in the FinePix F30, and has the same slight problem with purple fringes on high-contrast edges, but it is very minor and under normal conditions hardly shows up at all. Colour rendition, contrast and dynamic range are all excellent.”

“We saw virtually no noise with the S6000fd set to ISO 100, and while we saw a minute amount of noise at ISO 200 when viewing on our monitors, the noise didn’t show up in prints. Though we saw slightly more noise on our monitors at ISO 400, it still wasn’t very noticeable in prints. By ISO 800, Fuji’s noise suppression obviously kicked in, so while noise was kept largely under control, significant amounts of finer detail was lost.”
