Sigma Corporation of America today announced the pricing and availability of the Sigma dp0 Quattro large-sensor compact camera. The dp0 Quattro incorporates a fixed 14mm f/4 lens, which is equivalent to a 21mm lens on a 35mm camera; and features four “F” Low Dispersion (FLD) glass elements, two Special Low Dispersion (SLD) glass elements, and two aspheric lenses. The image sensor is a three-layered, panchromatic Foveon chip with green-sensitive middle and red-sensitive bottom layers each having 4.9 megapixels, plus a top layer that captures 19.6 megapixels of blue-channel chrominance and resolution/luminance information for the red and green channels. The Sigma dp0 Quattro camera will be available in the United States in late July for the street price of $999. (The UK RRP was already announced back in May.)

The Sony RX100 IV (DSC-RX100M4) is a new digital compact camera featuring a 1"-type stacked Exmor RS CMOS sensor and a 24-70mm (eq.) f/1.8-2.8 lens. Thanks to the attached DRAM chip, the Sony RX100 IV is capable of capturing full-resolution stills at 16 frames per second, and the ultra-fast readout of the image sensor enables users to select shutter speeds as fast as 1/32,000 second. The camera can also record 4K movies using the XAVC S codec, which records video at a high data rate of 100 Mbps. The camera utilises full-pixel readout without pixel binning to ensure that all the finer details of 4K video are captured with minimal moire and ‘jaggies.' Additionally, the RX100 IV can capture 40x super slow motion video at up to 960fps. The new Sony Cyber-shot RX100 IV will be available this July for about $1000.

The Sony RX10 II (DSC-RX10M2) is a new compact camera featuring the world’s first 1"-type stacked Exmor RS CMOS sensor and a Zeiss branded 24-200mm (eq.) f/2.8 lens. The addition of an attached DRAM chip enables the camera to shoot full-resolution stills at 14 frames per second for an extended period of time. Additionally, the ultra-fast readout of the image sensor is responsible for the high speed Anti-Distortion Shutter (maximum speed of 1/32000 second), which allows the Sony RX10 II to capture sharp images with a wide open aperture at brightness levels up to EV197. The camera can record 4K movies using the XAVC S codec, and reduced-resolution slow-motion video at up to 960fps. The new Sony RX10 II high-zoom camera will be available this July for about $1,300.

The Leica Q (Typ 116) is a new 35mm full-frame compact camera with a fixed 28mm f/1.7 lens. The first model in a new line of digital compact cameras, the Leica Q features auto-focus speed of 0.15 second, ISO range of 100-50,000, 10fps continuous shooting, 1080p/60fps video, built-in wi-fi and NFC connectivity, 3.6 megapixed electronic LCOS viewfinder, and a touchscreen 3" TFT LCD monitor with 1,040,000 pixels. The Leica Q (Typ 116) is available now in the UK at a suggested retail price of £2,900 including VAT. In the US the Leica Q retails for and SRP of $4,250.

The winners of the Camera Grand Prix 2015, hosted by the Camera Journal Press Club of Japan (CJPC), received their awards in Tokyo on Monday, 1 June 2015. The Camera Grand Prix, held since 1984, is a prestigious award whose winners are selected by a judging committee made up of the members of the CJPC, top editorial staff of the member publications, academic experts, technical writers, professional photographers and TIPA (Technical Image Press Association). The winning products for the Camera GP 2015 include theCanon EOS 7D Mark II ("Camera of the Year" and "Readers' Award"), theCanon EF 11-24mm f/4L USM lens ("Lens of the Year"), the Lytro Illum, the Olympus OM-D E-M5 Mark II and the Panasonic LUMIX DMC-CM1 ("Editors' Award").

Canon have launched a cashback promotion in the UK and Ireland. The offer enables photographers to claim up to £50/€60 cashback on a variety of products including three dSLRs, the EOS M3 compact system camera, four EF-S and four EF lenses, two flash units, five compact cameras, five camcorders and four printers. The promotion runs until 19th August 2015 for eligible products purchased from UK or Republic of Ireland retailers.

The Sony Cyber-shot HX90 is an 18-megapixel superzoom camera with a 25.750mm equivalent lens and a pop-up OLED viewfinder. Other key features include a fast, intelligent AF system with an improved spatial object detection algorithm, a control ring around the lens, a tiltable LCD screen plus on-board Wi-Fi and NFC. The camera can record full HD 60p650p moives usin the XAVC S codec. The Sony Cyber-shot H90V model ($430) additionally features a GPS module that automatically tags your shots and clips with location information to enjoy on a map using PlayMemories Home. The cameras wil be available from June.

The Sony Cyber-shot WX500 is an 18.2-megapixel digital compact camera with a 25-750mm equivalent zoom lens and a tilting LCD screen. Other highlights include a fast, intelligent AF system with an improved spatial object detection algorithm, a control ring around the lens, plus on-board WiFi and NFC.  Available from June, the Sony WX500 carries a manufacturer's suggested price of $330.

The 16-megapixel Stylus Tough TG-4 is Olympus's new flagship underwater camera offering raw image capture, GPS, WiFi and a 25-100mm equivalent f/2.0-4.9 lens. Shockproof to a height of 2.1 metres, crushproof to a weight of 100kg, freezeproof down to -10°C, dustproof and waterproof to a depth of 15m without a special underwater housing; the Olympus Tough TG-4 comes with an advanced, four-mode Variable Macro system that covers a 29-cm range – starting at 30 cm from the subject and zooming in to just 1 cm away. The four modes are Microscope, Microscope Control, Focus Bracketing and Focus Stacking. New to Microscope Mode is the slow-sync flash, which enhances contrasts and prevents potential over-exposure when you’re very close to the subject. Divers will also appreciate the new Underwater HDR feature, the built-in manometer, as well as the glove-friendly and customisable mode dial. The Olympus Stylus Tough TG-4 is available from May, priced at £349.99/$379.99.

Olympus America have announced the US price and availability of the Stylus 1s digital compact camera. The Sylus 1s features a new step-zoom function, a smaller auto focus target, plus focus peaking and interval shooting functionality. It is powered by a BLS-50 battery that provides enough power to take 450 shots according to CIPA standards. Most of the other technical specifications - including the 1/1.7-type 12-megapixel CMOS sensor, the 28-300mm (eq.) f/2.8 lens, the 7fps continuous shooting mode, the ISO 100-12800 sensitivity range and the 1.04-million-dot, 3" touchscreen - are unchanged versus the Stylus 1. The Olympus Stylus 1s will go on sale later this month, priced at $699.99.

Nikon has announced that three of its products have been awarded the prestigious "red dot award: product design 2015." The Nikon 1 J4 and Nikon 1 S2 (pictured) compact system cameras and the Nikon Coolpix S6900 compact digital camera all won accolades for their quality and design. Red Dot award winners will be on display at a special exhibition to be held from 30th June - 26th July at the Red Dot Design Museum on the premises of the Zeche Zollverein World Cultural Heritage Site in Essen, Germany.

Panasonic UK has launched three promotions on its imaging products. Running until 2nd June, the deals include a cashback offer and two value-added promotions. You can claim upto £200 (€250) cashback on Panasonic’s 4K imaging products including the HC-X1000, HC-WX970, HC-VX87 and HX-A500 camcorders as well as the LX100, GH4 (pictured) and FZ1000 cameras. Additionally, the company is extending warranty on selected camera and camcorder models up to 5 years. Sigma are showing the Sigma dp0 Quattro compact camera for the first time in the UK at The Photography Show. The Sigma dp0 Quattro is a new compact camera with the Foveon X3 direct image sensor and a 21mm f/4 lens. Sigma UK have announced the recommeded retail price and availability of the Sigma dp3 Quattro large-sensor compact camera. Incorporating a newly developed Foveon X3 direct image sensor and a 75mm (eq.) f/2.8 lens, the Sigma dp3 Quattro offers superior handling and highly intuitive operation thanks to its ergonomic design and well thought-out controls. When the dedicated conversion lens FT-1201 (optional) is attached to the camera, it extends the focal length of the lens by a factor of 1.2. The Sigma dp3 Quattro will be available from the end of March at an RRP of £899.99. The FT-1201 1.2x conversion lens will set you back £149.99 .

Canon UK and Irelad today launched its spring promotion allowing customers to claim up to £100/€120 cashback on selected products. These include three dSLR cameras, seven lenses, two flashes, three compact cameras, two digital camcorders and four printers. Those that purchase two products in Canon’s cashback offer can also claim a free hdbook photo book worth £99/€120. The offer runs from 5th March 2015 to 6th May 2015 for eligible products purchased from UK or Republic of Ireland retailers.
