Ricoh has announced the Ricoh WG-40 and WG-40W waterproof compact cameras. Both models are designed to be waterproof to a depth of 14 meters, shockproof against falls from a height of 1.6 meters, and freeze-proof to temperatures as low as -10°C. They also provide a range of features to facilitate all types of still-image and movie shooting, including approximately 16.0 effective megapixels and Full HD movie recording capability. In addition to these features, the Ricoh WG-40W comes equipped with a host of Wi-Fi functions. A smartphone can be used to release the camera's shutter and set various functions from a distance, browse and download recorded images, and upload them to social networks and other websites. Do note that the Ricoh WG-40 and WG-40W will be marketed in Japan only.

Panasonic has launched its Lumix Ambassador programme. The first six ambassadors are Jonas Borg, Marco Crupi, Casey Gutteridge, Caroline Roxy, Ferdinand Wolf and Daimo Xanthopoulos. These photographers and cinematographers will host workshops across Europe and have their work, captured on Lumix cameras, displayed at the Panasonic Lumix Ambassador website.

Having issued a Windows 10 compatibility announcement at the beginning of this month, Fujifilm now released firmware updates for seven X-series compacts and CSCs. These include the Fujifilm X100S, X100T (pictured), X20, X30, X-Pro1, XQ2 and X-E2 models. Similar firmware upgrades for other Fuji cameras are planned to be released later this year.

The Casio Exilim EX-ZR3000 is a raw-capable digital compact camera with a 1/1.7"-type back-illuminated CMOS sensor, a 25-300mm (eq.) f/2.8-6.3 lens, plus Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity. Other highlights include a 3-inch, 921,600-dot LCD screen that tilts up 180 degrees, plus a front-mounted secondary shutter release to facilitate the capture of self-portraits. The camera can record 1080p movies at 30 frames per second, and reduced-resolution videos at up to 1,000fps. The Casio Exilim EX-ZR3000 will become available on 31st July (in Japan) in Black and White. The initial monthly production volume is 10,000 units. There is no word on international availability and pricing.

Casio Japan has announced the Exilim EX-ZR60, a 16-megapixel compact camera with a 25-250mm equivalent zoom lens, a 180° tilting LCD screen and a secondary shutter release on the front panel to facilitate the capture of self-portraits. The camera features Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity for easy image sharing via Ripplex's Scene smartphone app, plus a range of "SELPHY Art" modes whose effects can be previewed on-screen. Due to be released on 28th August (in Japan), the Casio Exilim EX-ZR60 will be available in Green, Pink and White. The initial monthly production volume is estimated at 15,000 units. Sigma UK have announced a new dp0 Quattro kit, comprising the ultra-wide-angle dp0 Quattro and LVF-01 LCD Viewfinder. Featuring a 14mm F4 lens (equivalent to a 21mm lens on a 35mm camera) and a Foveon sensor, the Sigma dp0 Quattro (read review) is perfectly suited to landscape photography - while the addition of the Sigma LVF-01 LCD Viewfinder cuts off outside light and magnifies the LCD display 2.5 times, allowing photographers to check focusing and composition more easily. The next generation of the Polaroid Cube "lifestyle action camera," the WiFi-enabled Polaroid Cube+, made its debut at CE Week 2015. Compatible with iOS and Android devices via the Polaroid Cube+ app, users can sync the camera with their smartphone or tablet to capture and share their 1080p videos and still images instantaneously. The app allows users to control their Polaroid Cube+ lifestyle action camera through their mobile device, or use their device as a viewfinder. At a recent event held at Pinewood studios near London, we were able to sample Sony’s upcoming RX10 II and RX100 IV cameras. Both come equipped with new-generation 1-inch Exmor RS sensors for improved image processing speed and 4K video recording. Each camera boasts significantly quicker burst shooting speeds, as well as super-fast 1000fps recording for slow motion video clips. The RX10 II and RX100 IV also receive a faster maximum shutter speed and an improved OLED viewfinder.

DxO today introduced the DxO ONE, a smartphone-controlled, raw-capable camera module featuring a 1"-type sensor and a 32mm (eq.) f/1.8 lens with a 6-bladed aperture diaphragm. The 20.2-megapixel DxO ONE is a premium camera that attaches to your iPhone or iPad via the Lightning connector, turning the smartphone/tablet display into the camera’s viewfinder. A free iOS app enables control of the individual settings on the DxO ONE camera, including aperture, shutter speed (from 15s to 1/8000s), and ISO (from 100 to 51200). In addition to an Auto mode, the DxO ONE app offers various capture modes, including multiple Scene modes, Speed, Aperture Priority, or full Manual mode – and the user interface automatically adapts to the selected mode for a unique user experience. For the ultimate in noise-free image quality – even in very low light – users can choose to capture images in DxO’s new SuperRAW format. The Olympus Stulus 1s, a premium compact that was first announced as a Japan-only model back in October, will soon be available in the UK. Essentially an evolutionary upgrade to the venerable Stylus 1 (read review), the Sylus 1s features a new step-zoom function, a smaller auto focus target, plus focus peaking and interval shooting functionality. It is powered by a BLS-50 battery that provides enough power to take 450 shots according to CIPA standards. Most of the other technical specifications - including the 1/1.7-type 12-megapixel CMOS sensor, the 28-300mm (eq.) f/2.8 lens, the 7fps continuous shooting mode, the ISO 100-12800 sensitivity range and the 1.04-million-dot, 3" touchscreen - are unchanged versus the Stylus 1. The new Stylus 1s comes with the latest Stylus 1 firmware, which adds compatibility with wide-angle converters to deliver greater focal range with constant brightness, starting with the impressive wide-angle potential of 22.4mm (in 35mm terms). The Stylus 1s premium compact goes on sale from early summer for £429.99.

Eyefi announced today that its Mobi Pro photography solution now integrates both GoPro and Olympus Wi-Fi cameras. With Eyefi, photos from these cameras are instantly transferred and automatically organised alongside the ones from their smartphones. “No one uses just one device for taking pictures anymore,” said Matt DiMaria, Eyefi CEO. “We understand that photographers want to choose any camera... and still have instant access to all their photos all together in a single collection without having to go home, upload them into a computer and manually merge each one. We’re giving photographers the flexibility and convenience to share images from all their cameras and the insight to discover more about their photos.” Eyefi apps and cloud service automatically organise these images and make it easier than ever to find and discover more about them. Eyefi’s Wi-Fi camera solution is available to all Eyefi Cloud members as part of their £3.49/$4.99/monthly subscription service. Non-Eyefi Cloud customers can purchase it through the Eyefi Mobi app on their phone or tablet for £3.49/$4.99. This feature is currently available for Android devices and is planned for iOS devices later this year. Eyefi’s Wi-Fi camera connectivity is available for use with GoPro Hero+ LCD, Hero 3, GoPro Hero 4 and Olympus Stylus 1, Olympus PEN E-P5, Olympus Stylus TG- 860, and Olympus OM-D E-M5 Mark II cameras.
