Photographer Antonio Olmos has returned to his homeland, Mexico, for the first project of the ‘Sony RX Celebrate the Streets’ series. He has captured the vibrancy and spectacular colour of the country's traditional Day of the Dead celebrations using the Sony Cyber-shot RX100 III. In the Mexican town of Mixquic the festivities take to the streets as thousands throng the local cathedral’s graveyard, the only remaining church graveyard in the city, lighting it with candles to create a unique scene. "In countries across the world, the streets are a social environment where, during these events and festivals, so many conventions are broken for the day," Antonio Olmos said. "The Mexican Day of the Dead sees people of all classes and backgrounds come together to honour the deceased and everyone shares that celebration – it’s a moment when everyone shares in both joy and sorrow at those who have died." Future potential projects for the ‘Celebrate the Streets’ series include New Orleans Mardi Gras, India’s Holi Festival and Pamplona’s Running of the Bulls.

Olympus Japan have unveiled the Olympus Stylus 1s, an evolutionary upgrade to their premium Stylus 1 compact camera. The Sylus 1s features a new step-zoom function, a smaller auto focus target, plus focus peaking and interval shooting functionality. It is powered by a BLS-50 battery that provides enough power to take 450 shots according to CIPA standards. Most of the other technical specifications - including the 1/1.7-type 12-megapixel CMOS sensor, the 28-300mm (eq.) f/2.8 lens, the 7fps continuous shooting mode, the ISO 100-12800 sensitivity range and the 1.04-million-dot, 3" touchscreen - are unchanged versus the Stylus 1. The Olympus Stylus 1s will go on sale nex month (in Japan), with pricing to be confirmed. A new wide-angle conversion lens (WCON-08X) and wide conversion lens adapter (CLA-14) will join the list of accessories available for the camera.

Ricoh have announced the Ricoh Theta M15, a 360-degree camera with built-in Wi-Fi and video recording capabilities. The new model can capture up to 3 minutes of spheircal video footage with no stitch lines. Just like its predecessor, the new Ricoh Theta M15 can also record 360° stills, which can then be shared on the theta360° website. The new camera will be available in a variety of colours from 14th November, priced at £269.99.

The Leica X ‘Edition Moncler’ is a new special-edition model limited to only 1,500 copies worldwide. Finished with a premium leather trim in a triple-colour scheme of blue, white and red, as an homage to the French origins of clothing company Moncler, this silver version of the Leica X comes complete with a matching camera strap in genuine leather bearing the inscription Leica & Moncler to highlight the collaboration between the two brands. The Leica X 'Edition Moncler' was first unveiled at the exclusive opening of Monuments, an exhibition by Fabien Baron, Leica and Moncler hosted at Sotheby’s in London, during Frieze Art. The technical specifications of the Leica X ‘Edition Moncler’ are identical to those of the standard production model of the new Leica X camera. The Leica X ‘Edition Moncler’ will be available from Leica authorised dealers at an RRP of £1,952 - a reference to the year Moncler was founded.

Panasonic UK has announced its Christmas 2014 cashback offer. Included in this promotion is the Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH4 compact system camera (with a cashback amount of £100 / €120), the Lumix DMC-TZ60 travel compact, and the HC-V550 camcorder (each with a cashback amount of £30 / €35). This promotion will run to 12th January 2015. To claim the cashback on qualifying Lumix, Lumix G camera and camcorder models, participants (aged 18 or over only) must complete the online registration form at the website below. The last date for registration will be 27th February 2015.

In an official video released by its Netherlands branch, Canon is hinting at the upcoming release of a new high-zoom, large-sensor premium compact camera. No further details are available but those who speak Dutch can sign up to be notified of the product launch.

HTC has announced its first dedicated digital camera, called RE. Featuring a 1/2.33"-type 16-megapixel CMOS sensor and an f/2.8 lens with an angle of view of 146°, the HTC RE has an unusual shape and no viewfinder, LCD screen or physical controls except for a shutter release - however, it can be remote controlled wirelessly with most smartphones. In addition to capturing 16-megapixel stills, the RE camera can also record Full HD videos at 30 frames per second and 720p HD movie clips at up to 120fps. Other highlights include time-lapse photography, Bluetooth, USB and Wi-Fi connectivity and waterproofing (to 1m underwater, out of the box). RE’s built-in grip sensor instantly activates the camera as it’s picked up, eliminating the need for a power button. HTC's first camera will be available in the US from late October, with other markets following later.

Ricoh have unveiled the water-, shock-, crush- and freezeproof Ricoh WG-30w compact camera, which comes equipped with built-in Wi-Fi connectivity and advanced smartphone support functions. The 16-megapixel Ricoh WG-30w boasts a back-illuminated CMOS image sensor, a 28-140mm equivalent lens and a solid, airtight body that's waterproof to a depth of 40 feet, shockproof from a height of 5 feet, crushproof against weights up to 220 pounds, and coldproof to -10 °C.  The WG-30 will be available  in December 2014 for a suggested retail price of £259.99 /$299.95. In the UK, the company will also launch a non-Wi-Fi version called the Ricoh WG-30, priced at £229.99.

Nikon has issued a firmware update for the Nikon Coolpix A large-sensor compact camera. According to the company, version C:1.12 resolves an issue that sometimes prevented appropriate exposure control with interval timer photography. You can download the firmware upgrade from the website below.
