Fujifilm FinePix E900 ZoomDIWA member Steves Digicams have published their review of the new Fujifilm FinePix E900 Zoom, a 9 megapixel digital camera with a 4x optical zoom lens equivalent to 32-128mm and an ISO range of ISO 80 to ISO 800.

“The E900’s image noise characteristics are very good. Noise is essentially absent at ISO 80 and 100. Shadow noise becomes detectable at ISO 200, and noticeable at ISO 400. At ISO 800, noise is noticeable throughout the image, but not to the extent that it is unusable. The E900’s noise reduction process does reduce fine details at ISO 800, but users will appreciate having ISO 800 available more than they will regret the loss of detail.”

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T9DCResource have reviewed the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T9, which offers a 3x Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar optical zoom lens, 6 megapixels, an optical image stabilizer, highest ISO speed of 640 and a 2.5 inch LCD screen.

“The most notable feature on the DSC-T9 is its optical image stabilizer. The T9 is one of only a small handful of ultra-compacts with image stabilizers (the others being from Panasonic and Konica Minolta), and it sure comes in handy when you’re taking shots in not-so-great lighting. While it won’t work miracles (like stopping motion blur), it will allow you to use slower shutter speeds than you could otherwise. The stabilizer can be used in movie mode, as well.”

Nikon Coolpix P1DIWA member LetsGoDigital have published a review of the 8 megapixel Nikon Coolpix P1 Wi-Fi digital camera.

“Although Wi-Fi isn’t commonly used (yet) and the module of the Nikon Coolpix P1 has its limitations, we can expect a lot from this technique. At this moment it is still in its infancy but more and more people have a wireless network at home and the demand for Wi-Fi will certainly grow. In the future it will definitely be possible to log in directly so you can send a high quality picture from any hotspot to your family at home while you yourself are getting sunburned by the hot Spanish sun. I’d wish for a stronger battery then though, because continuous wireless transfer consumes loads of energy.”

Panasonic DMC-FX9DigiCamReview have reviewed the Panasonic DMC-FX9, a 6 megapixel compact digital camera with optical image stabilizer, 3x Leica lens and 2.5-inch LCD screen with 207,000 pixels.

“The Panasonic Lumix FX9 is a very stylish ultra compact digital camera that provides very good 6 megapixel images. The camera improves on the FX7 with a high resolution screen, much better battery life, more megapixels, and much better video mode, yet is available for less that the FX7 was. The camera is very good, with good image quality and very good features. There are only one or two problems that may put you off buying this otherwise excellent camera - they are: high noise and high noise reduction that reduces details, and higher than average purple fringing. However, the positives far outweigh the negatives and I would definitely recommend this digital camera!”

Panasonic DMC-FX9DIWA member Steves Digicams have reviewed the Panasonic DMC-FX9, a 6 megapixel compact digital camera with optical image stabilizer, 3x Leica lens and 2.5-inch LCD screen with 207,000 pixels.

“Although the FX9 is very small, it fits well in your hands, and allows for easy, one-handed shooting. The Controls are positioned so that your fingers fall naturally over the various buttons on the top and on the back. Like we have seen with past models, the menu system is logically organized and simple to navigate. The only viewfinder on this cameras is its large and bright 2.5-inch LCD. I found this display worked great outdoors in bight light, having very few angles that reflected the sun. When shooting in marginal lighting conditions, it does not “gain up”. However the exposure system is very sensitive, and will allow you to frame in most cases.”

“The DMC-LX1 is yet another addition to Panasonic’s very popular Lumix line of compact and stylish digital cameras. It offers powerful features like an 8-megapixel imager that is complimented by a Leica DC-VARIO ELMARIT 4x optical zoom lens, large and bright 2.5-inch LCD display, and Panasonic’s exclusive MEGA O.I.S. image stabilization system. The LX1 has an exposure mode that will be sure to satisfy every user in your household. Newbies will appreciate the simple to use Auto, Program AE and 14 pre-programmed scene modes. As for the novice and advanced users, don’t worry, they didn’t forget about you! Sanyo Xacti E6DIWA member LetsGoDigital have reviewed the Sanyo Xacti E6, a 6 megapixel digital camera with a 3x optical zoom lens that is equivalent to 38-114mm.

“The design of the camera is rather sober. It features smooth round shapes and the housing consists of a matte aluminium material. Without a doubt the large sized monitor is perfectly apt for sharing your photos with family and friends. The camera lacks an optical viewfinder, but the 3-inch display makes you forget about this immediately. The monitor is dominating the entire back of the Xacti E6. We can only cheer at the new trend of equipping digital cameras with large sized screens.”

Samsung Pro815DPReview have reviewed the new Samsung Pro815, an 8 megapixel digital camera with a massive 15x optical zoom lens and a 3.5” LCD screen.

“So then, what’s the final conclusion? For one thing Samsung must be applauded for the sheer audacity of the Pro815. For a ‘first attempt’ at a ‘prosumer’ camera it is nothing short of remarkable, and if it had been launched a 12-18 months ago it would have really upset the apple cart. But one can’t help feeling it’s a little too late, and that inside this monster there is a better, leaner camera dying to get out.”

HP Photosmart R717PCWorld have reviewed the HP Photosmart R717, a 6.2 megapixel digicam with a 1.8 inch LCD screen and 3x optical zoom lens in a stylish stainless steel body.

“The quality of the R717’s photos impressed us, as it produced some of the sharpest images we’ve seen from a point-and-shoot. Colors looked attractive, though a bit more oversaturated than the actual hues. We also saw a little speckling—possibly the result of oversharpening—on our color-distortion tests. These were minor weaknesses, however, and we gave the R717 an overall image-quality rating of Very Good.”

Nikon Coolpix S4DCResource have reviewed the Nikon Coolpix S4, which has 6 megapixels and a 10x Zoom-Nikkor lens that is equivalent to 38-380mm.

“The Coolpix S4 marks the return of the Nikon’s swivel-body design, and I missed it. I owned a Coolpix 950 back in the dark ages, and I became a fan of the swivel-body instantly. It comes in handy when you’re shooting over people’s heads in front of you, or at ground level for cool shots of your pets or kids. Unfortunately Nikon cut a few corners on the S4, and it’s not quite as nice as its predecessors. Build quality is okay in most areas, though the cheesy plastic lens cover leaves much to be desired. In terms of ergonomics I have a few complaints. First, there’s absolutely nowhere to put your right thumb, which will end up on that large LCD display—I hope you like fingerprints! Second, the four-way controller is a little clunky, but that’s just my opinion.”

Olympus i:robe IR-500CNET have the first online review of the Olympus i:robe IR-500, an unusual 4 megapixel digital camera.

“The Olympus IR-500 wants to be the iPod of digital cameras: cool, convenient, and especially versatile in playback mode. Although it’s a competent enough 4-megapixel snapshot camera, with 17 scene modes—but only a limited 2.8X 40mm-to-112mm (35mm-camera equivalent) zoom lens—it really excels as a playback device. Nestled in the bundled docking station, it can display any of 12 different slide shows, each with as many as 100 voice-narrated pictures. Lengthy shows are most practical when you link the dock to the optional 16-ounce 40GB S-HD-100 hard drive. The IR-500 has nine PowerPoint-like transition effects, including zoom up and down, checkerboards, faders, swivels, and Venetian blinds. It can also display your images sorted by shooting date, as a sort of visual diary. The slide show and “diary” modes have their own easy-access positions on the mode dial.”

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-R1Digital Outback Photo have started a diary review of the new Sony Cyber-shot DSC-R1, a 10.3 megapixel compact camera with an APS-C sized sensor that allows for a “live” preview.

“The lowest ISO level for the R1 is 160. Because this is close enough to ISO 200 we skipped this test. ISO 200 is very good, ISO 400 not bad, ISO 800 can be used still for good images. We would try to avoid to use ISO 1600 and higher although with tools like Noise Ninja you may get still nice photos. Overall the R1 does not disappoint at all in our noise test.”

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-R1Camera Labs have just reviewed the new Sony Cyber-shot DSC-R1, a 10.3 megapixel compact camera with an APS-C sized sensor that allows for a “live” preview.

“While much of the R1’s attention has been devoted to its large sensor, the real triumph is actually the 24-120mm Carl Zeiss lens. You’re normally lucky to have an all-in-one with a 28mm wide angle, but one which extends to 24mm is a joy. The lens may not zoom-into the heady lengths of the 300mm and up super-zooms, but at 120mm it delivers a decent telephoto option. And crucially the lens performs very well, with low distortion and high sharpness, along with no particular concerns over vignetting or fringing - the demons of the earlier F828 have truly been laid to rest.”

“What really sets the P880 apart from the competition is it’s exceptionally good all-glass ultra-wide SCHNEIDER-Kreuznach f/2.8-f4.1/24-140mm (35mm equivalent) Variogon zoom (with manual zoom and focus rings). Barrel distortion (straight lines bow out from the center) is essentially absent, an amazing accomplishment in a digicam zoom that starts at 24mm. Pincushion distortion (straight lines bow in toward the center of the frame) is remarkably well controlled at the telephoto end of the range. Minimum focusing distance (in macro mode) is 2.0 inches.”

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-R1DPReview have just reviewed the new Sony Cyber-shot DSC-R1, a 10.3 megapixel compact camera with an APS-C sized sensor that allows for a “live” preview.

“The DSC-R1 has been around for several years, the mythical fixed lens digital camera with a large (APS sized) sensor, but only in the minds of many of us. Thankfully Sony were brave enough to do it, to try something totally new and rekindle interest in the ‘prosumer’ fixed lens market which had pretty much been ignored since sub-$1000 digital SLRs came along. I’m glad to report as a prosumer / fixed lens digital the DSC-R1 is so much better than anything that came before it, it’s really not worth comparing it to cameras like the DSC-F828, there’s only so much you can do with a small sensor.”

Pentax OptioS6CNET have reviewed the Pentax OptioS6 digitial camera, which has a 6 megapixel sensor and 3x optical lens, housed in a slim 19mm body.

“The aluminum-alloy, 6-megapixel Pentax Optio S6—which the company bills as small enough to fit inside a tin of Altoids (it will also fit inside a pack of cigarettes, if that’s your weakness)—is a well-designed digital camera that will please casual shooters with its ease of use and build quality. Though some photo-quality shortcomings and sluggish shooting mar its overall value, Pentax’s slimmest offering is a good choice for anyone looking for a pocketable camera that produces decent snapshots and looks great while doing it.”
