CNET have published their review of the Konica Minolta Z6, which updates the popular Z5 and features a 6 megapixel sensor, 12x zoom lens and 2 inch LCD screen.
“One of several 12X-zoom cameras on the market, the 6-megapixel Konica Minolta Dimage Z6 differs in only a few respects from its 5-megapixel predecessor, the Dimage Z5. In addition to the resolution bump and the silver face-lift, the Z6 provides a slightly larger image buffer and, unfortunately, a lower-resolution movie mode. However, the Z5’s primary attractions remain: 12X zoom, Anti-Shake technology, and a well-rounded feature set that includes manual exposure controls. Keen-eyed photographers might fuss about image quality, but the Konica Minolta Dimage Z6 offers enough benefits at an affordable price to attract enthusiasts who want an SLR-like feel and a long-reach lens.”

PC Magazine have just reviewed the new Olympus mju DIGITAL 800 digicam.
“With all the storms that have battered the U.S. in the past few months, perhaps Olympus has the right idea in giving the Stylus 800 an all-weather finish. You won’t be able to take the camera underwater (use the Pentax OptioWP for that), but its water-resistant finish will withstand drizzle or light rain. Unfortunately, despite having a good price ($399.95 list) for an 8-megapixel camera, excellent on-screen help, an all-weather finish, and other cool features, the Stylus 800’s picture quality keeps it from being a real compact contender.”

DigitalCameraReview have reviewed the Pentax OptioS5z, which has a large 2.5 inch LCD screen, 3x optical zoom lens and a 5 megapixel sensor.
“The complex lens design results in some minor but noticeable loss of sharpness at longer shooting distances and corners that are a bit soft throughout the zoom’s range. Barrel distortion (straight lines bow out from the center) is moderate and pincushion distortion (straight lines bow in toward the center) is about average. Chromatic aberration (purple fringing) is well controlled but visible in high contrast color transition areas. Optical performance was better than expected (I expected to see some vignetting and maybe even a little coma) but the zoom’s performance is actually quite good (for such a tiny and complex optic). The S5z’s Macro performance is exceptional, especially so for an ultra compact digicam.”

Pocket-Lint have published their review of the Kodak Easyshare V550, a 5 megapixel camera with 3x optical zoom lens and 2.5inch LCD screen.
“Overall the Kodak V550 is a smart little model that is easy to use and takes good pictures. We especially liked the scene mode shortcuts on the top of the model. What’s the catch? Well the docking station doesn’t look that robust and we get the feeling that after a couple of months you may be having to buy another as the camera connects to a socket that is raised above the main base.”

DesignTechnica have just reviewed the Panasonic DMC-FZ30. This is an 8 megapixel compact digital camera with a 12x Leica optical zoom lens equivalent to 35-420mm, optical image stabilizer, addition of a manual zoom ring and rotating LCD screen with 235,000 pixels.
“This is the newest generation of Panasonic’s highly-regarded line-up of mega zoom cameras. With 8-megapixel resolution, a 12x Leica optical zoom and built-in optical image stabilization, this digicam is a decent alternative for those looking for D-SLR features but don’t want the hassle of interchangeable lenses plus they’d like the ability to view a live image on a 2-inch LCD screen and take short videos. The DMC-FZ30 feels very much like D-SLR yet costs a lot less—especially when you budget the cost of lenses that would equal this focal range (a hefty 35-420mm in 35mm terms). Although a good camera, it has its problems but none of them are so bad as to chuck it into the recycle bin.”

DigitalCameraInfo have reviewed the new Nikon Coolpix 7900, a 7 megapixel digital camera featuring a 2.0-inch LCD screen, new graphical user interface and a 3x Zoom-Nikkor ED lens equivalent to 38-114mm lens in 35mm format.
“Announced in February and released in April, the Nikon Coolpix 7900 is still a candidate for the 2005 holiday shopping season. Its small black body makes it one of the more stylish Coolpix models and it packs an impressive 7.1 effective megapixels onto its 1/1.8” CCD. The Coolpix 7900 is the big sister of the Nikon Coolpix 5900 and has many of the same features, but the 7900 boasts a larger pixel count and a few other tweaks in the specifications. This model houses Nikon’s new technology set, which includes face-priority auto focus, in-camera red-eye fix, and D-Lighting compensation.”

Fujifilm UK Press Release
As the clocks go back this Sunday (01:00 GMT), Fujifilm would like to draw attention to a depressing trend. Just like their human owners, many digital cameras are dreading the absence of daylight and the long winter nights.
With most digital cameras depending on abundant light to take a decent photo, 15 hours of daily darkness mean they can get into trouble early in the evening - relying on a battery-hungry flash, or producing the blurry, shaky results we know so well. Until now…

Steves Digicams have reviewed the new Canon IXUS 55 compact digital camera (also known as the SD450), which has 5.0 megapixels, 2.5 inch LCD screen and 3x optical zoom lens.
“If you’re looking for a 5-megapixel digicam with superb image quality, look no further than the SD450. If offers various image size choice for just about every application. Both Large superFine and Fine modes have plenty of resolution to create awesome 13×19-inch prints. The M2 (1600×1200) and S (640×480) modes are perfect when posting pictures on the web or sending them via email, where file sizes need to be as small as possible. There’s also Postcard mode that is set to a 3:2 aspect ratio, which is ideal for printing 4×6-inch prints and not having to worry about cropping. Using Manual mode with the ISO set at 50, our outdoor samples were excellent.”

Imaging Resource have reviewed the entry-level Fujifilm Finepix A345 digital camera.
“Known for great color and performance, Fujifilm has also carved out a niche for itself by consistently providing good-quality consumer digicams at rock-bottom prices. The latest in their line of bargain-priced cameras is the Fujifilm FinePix A345, a 4.1-megapixel digital camera, and its twin the FinePix A350, sporting 5.2 megapixels. The Fuji A345 carries on the value-leading tradition of Fujifilm digital cameras by offering a 4.1-megapixel CCD and 3x optical zoom lens at a low price, including a good-sized bright LCD monitor, Pict-Bridge support, two-second maximum exposure time and four preset scene modes. As you’d expect, the Fujifilm FinePix A345 trades off a few features and capabilities to achieve its remarkably low cost, but the camera still takes good-looking pictures in daylight conditions, and is simple enough for even rank beginners to enjoy immediately.”

Imaging Resource have published their review of the Canon IXUS 750 digital camera (also known as the Canon PowerShot SD550), which has 7.1 megapixels, 2.5 inch LCD screen and 3x optical zoom lens.
“With the PowerShot SD550 and SD450 Digital ELPH, Canon has once again stood its stylish ELPH digicams on end, packing even more features into the stylish compacts. The 7.12-megapixel SD450 and 5.0-megapixel SD450 have the same shell and specs as the SD500 and SD400 models (which continue to be available), but offer more options. Canon has retained their acclaimed optical viewfinder but matched it with a large 2.5-inch LCD monitor, redesigning the user interface to take advantage of the new screen. Both continue to offer the extremely unusual (and frankly, rather cool) “My Color” modes that allow you to selectively replace any color in your photo with a different one, or to make the image black and white with the exception of a single color. Overall, the SD550 is one of the more appealing subcompact digicams we’ve seen to date.”
