Fujifilm Japan have issued a statement saying that production of the X100 has resumed, with shipping beginning in early April. As the statement has only been posted on Fujifilm’s Japanese website, with no international updates as yet, we’re assuming at this stage that the shipping date for other countries will probably be later than early April.

Rocoh has released a function-enhancing firmware update for the Ricoh GR Digital III camera. Like the GXR firmware update that was also posted today, it adds a Subject Tracking AF option to the focus modes on offer. Version 2.30 of the Ricoh GR Digital III firmware additionally gives photographers the choice to measure white balance off a small spot within the frame rather than the entire frame, and enables use of the electronic level gauge during self-timer operation.

Nikon has released a firmware update for the Nikon Coolpix P100 digital superzoom camera (read review). Version 1.2 resolves an issue with the rear display. To quote Nikon, “when the monitor was turned on by pressing the power switch or shutter-release button, or by rotating the mode dial, after the camera had entered standby mode with the auto off function with the Welcome screen set to any option other than None (default setting), monitor display was completely black with only information displayed. Further, when the shutter-release button was pressed halfway with this monitor display, the view through the lens was displayed, but the display included a significant amount of noise.”

The X100 is already in such short supply worldwide that we’ve splashed out our own cash and actually bought one, just so that we can bring you our usual in-depth review in a timely fashion. We don’t usually photograph the contents of a camera’s box, but the X100 is supplied in such a luxurious one, complete with mock silk lining, that we felt a photo gallery of our Fujifilm X1000 unboxing was worth sharing.

Making it’s UK debut, full production versions of the X100 are available on the Fujifilm stand to try out for yourself, and to pre-order at various retailers around the show. We were told that UK shipments will be in 2-3 weeks. The Sony HX100v, HX9v and WX10 are three key products in the Cybershot range for 2011. At around £400, the HX100v is literally the big draw, with a 30x zoom lens and a tilting LCD screen. The HX9v, priced at around £340, is a serious rival to the Panasonic TZ-series, with a 16x zoom in a pocketable body. The WX10 at £280 is the best-specified member of the slim and stylish W-range. All three cameras share exactly the same 16.2 megapixel Exmor R CMOS sensor. The HX100v and HX9v will be available in the UK from April, and the WX10 will be in the shops by the end of March.
