Nikon D200TrustedReviews have just reviewed the new 10.2 megapixel Nikon D200 digital SLR camera.

“However it’s easy to see why the camera is so bulky. It is extremely robust, and is designed to withstand rough treatment and serious outdoor use. It has a strong magnesium alloy body, and is equipped with rubber dust/moisture seals around the controls and external hatches. While not strictly speaking waterproof, the D200 should be able to withstand light showers, dust or water spray from aquatic activities. One surprising omission in this regard is the lack of a seal around the lens mount, as is found on fully professional cameras such as the Canon EOS 1DS MkII.”

Samsung GX-1SDCResource have reviewed the new Samsung GX-1S digital SLR, a 6 megapixel digital camera that uses the Pentax lens mount.

“Overall, the Digimax GX-1S’ photo quality was excellent, and what you’d expect from a D-SLR. Photos were well exposed, colors were very saturated (again, shooting in RAW reduces this), and subjects have a very clean, smooth look to them. Images are a bit sharper than on some D-SLRs, probably to keep the average consumer happy. Noise levels were low through ISO 400 and reasonable at ISO 800. Purple fringing wasn’t a problem, at least with the two lenses I used.”

Canon EOS 5DePhotoZine have published their review of the 12.8 megapixel Canon EOS 5D digital SLR.

“The Canon EOS 5D is a very capable camera, which produces silky smooth images right up to ISO400 and beyond that, noise levels are still very well controlled thanks in part to the full frame sensor. Sensor size is also to blame for another trait, vignetting with wide angle lenses is a real problem if you like to shoot wide open.”

Samsung GX-1SePhotoZine have reviewed the new Samsung GX-1S digital SLR, a 6 megapixel digital camera that uses the Pentax lens mount.

“Noise levels at ISO200 and ISO400 are low, as you would expect from an APS-C digital SLR of this level. Shots taken at ISO800 display a little more noise, but the images are still very usable. At ISO1600 chroma noise starts to become more prevalent, with midtone areas gaining a fairly strong pattern of multi-coloured speckles. By ISO3200 things start to get messy. The grey area of our QP card has no grey left in it, instead large flecks of red, green and blue are dominant. However if pictures taken at the ISO setting are converted to black & white, then they still display a good amount of detail and the noise levels are better controlled.”

Sony A100TrustedReviews have the first online review of the new 10.2 megapixel Sony A100 DSLR camera.

“In overall styling the Alpha ?100 resembles, not surprisingly, the Konica Minolta 5D, however it is far from being merely a re-badged Minolta. In order to be taken seriously in the highly competitive DSLR field, Sony has had to come up with something unique and special, and in my opinion it has succeeded admirably. The ?100 is crammed full of advanced technology designed to make taking good pictures easier, addressing most of the major problems that can ruin your pictures.”

Olympus E-330DigitalCameraInfo have reviewed the 7.5 megapixel, live preview Olympus E-330 DSLR camera.

“There are some pros using Olympus DSLRs. Acknowledging that Olympus has delivered some unusual and impressive lenses, and that the E-330 is built very tough, the camera still doesn’t generally call to the high-end user, especially considering the speed hit that the preview and dust reduction imposes. Macro specialists? Maybe – Live mode B offers very high magnification for manual focus. It might be that the underwater housing will take great advantage of the live preview, too.”

“DCI:
In your opinion, what do you think will make Sony’s SLR attempt successful when Konica Minolta’s was not?

Mark Weir:
Well I don’t know that Konica Minolta’s was not. Konica Minolta had a strong and enthusiastic following for some time. To say that they were unsuccessful, probably isn’t a point of view that I would espouse. I would say that they didn’t have as much share as other, rivals that did, but I wouldn’t say that they did not succeed.”

Olympus E-330TrustedReviews have reviewed the 7.5 megapixel, live preview Olympus E-330 DSLR camera.

“Fortunately the superb quality of the images makes up for a few minor problems. The E-330 uses a new “Live MOS” sensor which at 7.2MP is actually smaller than the sensor in the E-300, however the image quality is much improved. Having used both the Canon 30D and the E-330 in the past week, I have to say that although I preferred the handling and performance of the Canon, I prefer the pictures from the Olympus. Although they are slightly smaller in actual pixel size, they are around twice the size in terms of megabytes at the highest quality JPEG setting. I found the colour rendition to be both smoother and more subtle, with better overall saturation. With the relatively low compression there is plenty of fine detail in the default JPEG files, and even more if you shoot in RAW and convert in Photoshop.”
