Getty Images is partnering with Fujitsu to produce a 20-gigapixel image of the opening ceremony of the 2012 Olympics. “We are truly excited to be partnering with Fujitsu on this project. The Opening Ceremony Gigapixel image is the result of just one of the new technologies we are embracing, to ensure London 2012 is captured like no other Games. The Games are always synonymous with world records being broken and iconic moments being captured; with over 70,000 people expected at the Opening Ceremony, this image will capture this momentous occasion in innovative, high-resolution detail,” said Adrian Murrell, Senior Vice President, Global Editorial, Getty Images. In the first online seminar, Landscape Image Edits and Enhancements in Lightroom 4 (24th July, 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM EDT), professional photographer Joe Brady will explore both basic and advanced image editing techniques, focusing on the new editing capabilities offered in Lightroom 4. The second webinar, Edit & Enhance Landscape Images in Photoshop (31st July 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM EDT), also hosted by Joe Brady, will focus on enhancing landscape shots using Photoshop. “Following a short discussion about workstation color and calibration, Joe will show attendees step-by-step Photoshop edits that they can put to work right away to bring life and drama back into their landscape images,” the company says. Lomography UK has erected a massive LomoWall at the Museum of London. Comprising nearly 30,000 analogue photographs of Paralympic athletes in training for the London 2012 Games, the LomoWall spans the Museum of London’s foyer and rotunda. “The LomoWall is likely to be the largest collection of analogue photographs and contributing is a fun way to get into the spirit if the London 2012 Games,” says Linda Scott, Marketing Manager at Lomography UK. The unique exhibition, which is free to attend, opens to the public tomorrow and runs until 6 January 2012.

Entries were received from photographers on every continent, as far afield as Hong Kong to Chile and Russia to Australia, making this a record year with more than 3200 total image submissions. A panel of internationally respected judges will select an image to be Best in Show for which there is a £2,000 prize. This year the Best in Show will be judged on 5th July by acclaimed British photographers Alison Jackson and Simon Roberts, the BBC’s online photography director Phil Coomes, TimeOut’s chief arts critic Ossian Ward and critic and curator Gerry Badger. The Summershow 2012 Exhibition will run from 7th July – 18th August.

CREATE has announced an upcoming exhibition of David Bailey’s East End photographs, taken over 50 years. Taking place from 6th July - 5 August in the Royal Docks, Newham, this retrospective is one of the highlights of the CREATE summer programme which runs from 21st June to the end of August. The photographs that will be displayed, many of them large-scale prints, document the changing physical and social landscape of east London showing streetscapes, characters and scenes of east London life. Bailey’s photographs also provide a visual record of the different groups of immigrants who have settled in this part of the city. The photographer says, “London’s East End is in my DNA and I’m thrilled to be able to return to my roots in Newham. Now the rest of the world will focus on an area I’ve been looking at all my life.”

The work entitled ‘A Rare Photograph of the Soul Leaving the Body,’ shows 29 pieces from July 27 until 1 August. “The pieces are mainly about my view on life and my attempt to convince myself that death isn’t terrifying,” Thom said. “Some of the pieces exemplify living to its fullest extent and other pieces demonstrate aspects of life that are often unnoticed, but are much more significant than they first appear.” Centrespace Gallery is located at Leonard Lane, Bristol BS1 1EA.
