Hasselblad and Broncolor have teamed up for a new 8-venue UK-wide Studioday tour. The launch event, to be held on 10th Octoberat the Hasselblad Studio in Hoxton, London, will provide the first chance in the country for photographers to see latest Hasselblad and broncolor products. Datacolor has just announced a number of additional dates to their series of free monthly webinars on colour calibration. The next scheduled webinar in the series, taking place on 12th September from 3:00 PM to 4:15 PM EDT, addresses colour management for fine art reproduction. Other webinars will highlight such topics as calibration for display devices including iPhones and iPads, using Spyder technology for colour management, and holiday gift ideas from Datacolor. The London Look is an exhibition of the finalists of The London Look photography challenge. The challenge, a collaboration between the Horniman Museum and Gardens and lifestyle and culture website Londonist, attracted over 350 entries. The images offer a diverse view of contemporary London seen through the eyes of both professional and amateur photographers. Participants were asked if there was a definitive ‘London Look’, to consider the varied style of Londoners, and capture the essence of the city through street photography, either spontaneous or posed. The London Look exhibition runs from Saturday 1st until Sunday 30th September.

The UK’s Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) has announced a number of photo walks giving photographers unique ‘behind the scenes’ access to a number of British science laboratories. The science Photo Walks will be held at the Daresbury Laboratory in Cheshire (11 September), Rutherford Appleton Laboratory in Oxfordshire (13 September), Chilbolton Observatory in Hampshire (19 September) and United Kingdom Astronomy Technology Centre (UK ATC) in Edinburgh (21 September). Photographers will be able to enter their images to a regional, national and international competition for public and expert judging. The best British images will qualify for an international competition against images from laboratories in the United States, Germany, Italy and Canada. Places on the Photo Walks are limited and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. Photographers interested in taking part in this free event can register online from 2pm today at the website below.

In Her Eyes: Women Behind and in Front of the Camera is an upcoming exhibition opening at the Newark Museum on 12 September 2012. Culled from the museum’s own photography collection, the works in this exhibition portray girls and women through the lenses of female photographers and range from the mid-twentieth century to contemporary by such well-known artists as Cindy Sherman, Sally Mann, Dorothea Lange, Lalla Essaydi and Ana Mendieta. The photographs exhibited are primarily black and white gelatin silver prints, but some color Chromogenic prints are also included. The exhibition is curated by Shlomit Dror, American Art Research Associate, at the Newark Museum and will run through April 2013. For more information, visit the museum’s website.

The Royal Photographic Society (RPS) opens a ‘pop up’ window exhibition in Bath city centre on 5th August. The dramatic window-display showcases winners from the first part of The Society’s online Summer of Sport photography competition titled ‘Sport for All’. The competition, which ran from April to June, was part of the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad. The second part of the competition themed ‘Spirit of the Games’ remains open until 30 September at the website below.

The travelling exhibition of the world’s best press photographs of 2011, selected at the 2012 World Press Photo’s contest for professional photographers, will be on display in the Main Gallery of the Visitors Lobby at United Nations Headquarters in New York from 16 August – 9 September 2012. Now in its 55th year, the annual World Press Photo Contest is universally recognised as the world’s leading international contest for photojournalists, setting the standard for the profession. The contest draws entries by professional press photographers, photojournalists and documentary photographers from across the world, with 5,247 photographers from 124 countries participating this year with 101,254 pictures submitted. The UN Headquarters are located on Fifth Avenue at East 46th Street. Admission is free.

You Are Here is an exhibition and evolving photo project live from 30 July to 10 August at Mother London. The partnership between Mother and award-winning international photographer Caroll Taveras will capture those found lost and wandering, in a specially created studio, during the Olympics. “Just one day in, and the You Are Here street team have helped an array of people who were lost – including the Serbian Olympic swimmer, George Markovic,” says Mother London’s Annalisa Hoadley. “The project has been greatly received by the sitters, who have all been helped out in return from the team here bringing them to the studio and giving them some tips and a tea.” All the images will be available to view on Tumblr - visits to the exhibition are by appointment only.

Reuters TV has posted two new videos on robotic camera arms and underwater cameras used at the Olympics. Reuters was the first news organisation to develop remote robotic photographic cameras for sporting events - now the technology is being used at the London Games. In addition, Reuters photographers Wolfgang Rattay and Pawel Kopczynski have developed advanced underwater cameras to shoot swimming competitions nd transmit the images instantly around the globe. In response to visitors’ demand, the Travel Photographer of the Year (TPOTY) exhibition at London’s Royal Geographical Society (with IBG) has been extended for a further two weeks. Now running until 2nd September, the exhibition features the winning images from the 2011 international Travel Photographer of the Year awards, with all the stories behind the pictures, along with historic images from the Royal Geographical Society’s archives and a series of special showcases.
