I’ve just returned from PMA 2006 in Orlando, Florida, followed by a short trip to visit Hewlett Packard’s Lab in Palo Alto, California. Consequently I’ve spent most of the last 36 hours asleep! Dodgy internet connections and a busy schedule have prevented me from updating the site in the last few days. Coming up is a look back at PMA and my Hot Top 10 Poducts from the show, plus a report on what HP’s scientists are busy working on for the future.

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-LZ5 is a new compact digital camera that is positioned in the middle of Panasonic’s range for 2006. That’s not to say that the LZ5 is in any way mundane - in the usual Panasonic tradition of innovative products, the 6 megapixel DMC-LZ5 offers a 6x optical zoom lens, equivalent to 37-222mm in 35mm format. Other stand-out features include a large 2.5 inch LCD screen, optical image stabilisation for blur-free photos, and a new High Sensitivity mode that extends the ISO range to 1600. Find out if this all adds up to make a great camera by reading my review of the Panasonic Lumix DMC-LZ5.

Here are some sample images taken with a pre-production version of the FX01 - please note that they do not represent the quality of the final production version of the camera.

Introducing Everyday Eye (http://www.everydayeye.com) - a new photoblog by yours truly. Yes, I’ve finally joined the masses and started my very own daily photo website in an attempt to give a fresh impetus to my photography. A photo a day, makes you work, rest and play (or so the makers of Mars chocolate bars would have you believe). “Launches” is perhaps a bit strong - “crept quietly” is a more fitting description for something that has been in the pipeline since the start of 2006. So head over to Everyday Eye, take a look at the admittedly limited selection of photos, leave some comments, bookmark and return daily.

On the face of things the Fujifilm FinePix F11 doesn’t have a lot to recommend it. With a 6 megapixel sensor, 3x zoom and 2.5 inch LCD screen, the Fujifilm F11 is similar on paper to hundreds of other compact digital cameras. Looks can be deceiving, however, and the F11 is actually one of the best creative and pocketable digicams that you can currently buy, thanks mainly to its amazing sensor. Read the full review to discover if the Fujifilm FinePix F11 could be the pocket camera for you…

The 64th PhotographyBLOG Portfolio has been submitted by Bernard Mataigne.
“I was in Havana during the spring of 2005. It was a great experience. People are nice in a city that is breaking up. I have tried to reflect that in those pictures. Photography is an old passion. And it’s a travel through self and the world. Those are clichés, but real. The fun of it, is to take pictures. As Cartier-Bresson said: “The photographic firing, has always been my passion. Bang! That’s it.” Sometimes the bang! is great. Sometimes it’s more like a missed deed… and I try to navigate through that.”
