The new Epson Stylus SX515W is a high-speed compact printer, scanner and copier with Wi-Fi. A 6.3 cm LCD viewer, in-built PictBridge and memory card slots, and an Ethernet connection for wired networking complete the Epson SX515W’s headline specs. Epson has announced the Stylus Photo P50, a new, compact A4 photo printer designed for home printing. The Epson Stylus Photo P50 uses Epson’s Micro Piezo print head technology which, combined with Epson Claria Photographic Ink, produces detailed and sharp images that allegedly last up to 98 years in a frame or over 200 years in an album. The new printer uses individual ink cartridges so you only need to replace the one that has gone empty. The RRP is £89.99 including VAT, availability is slated for July. The package contains an Epson Photo Paper Pack, so you can start printing photos immediately after installation.

Epson have teamed up with EFI to create what both companies expect will be the most advanced and complete proofing solution on the market to date. The new Epson Stylus Pro 900 Series Proofing Editions combine the unique proofing advantages that come with the Epson Stylus Pro 7900 or 9900 wide format ink jet printers, along with EFI’s RIP workflow, EFI Colorproof XF v4.0 for Epson. The end result is “a unique and complete solution designed to redefine what’s possible for virtually all contract-proofing applications”. The Epson Proofing Edition Series includes an Epson Stylus Pro 7900 (24-inch) or 9900 (44-inch) wide format ink jet printer, a complete set of Epson UltraChrome® HDR ink cartridges, and a full 24-inch roll of Epson Standard Proofing Paper 240. Furthermore, it comes with EFI Colorproof XF 4.0 for Epson (software-based RIP) with pre-installed profiles for Epson’s entire line of Professional Proofing Papers. Sony DPP-FP97The Sony DPP-FP97 and DPP-FP67 are two new compact photo printers. Both models produce 4 x 6-inch photo prints - the DPP-FP97 in about 45 seconds, and the DPP-FP67 in about 63 seconds. The Sony DPP-FP97 comes with frame, scrapbooking and calendar templates, an auto touch-up feature, 3.5-inch LCD screen, HDMI-out port, plus a software keyboard for quick type messages and personalized greeting cards. In May, the DPP-FP97 digital photo printer will be available for about $200, and the DPP-FP67 model for about $120.

Canon Pro9500 Mark IICanon have unveiled five new printing and scanning products, including the Pro9500 and Pro9000 Mark II professional A3+ printers. The Canon Pro9500 Mark II is a 10-colour A3+ photo printer with 3 monochrome inks, built-in Ambient Light Adjustment and DVD/CD direct print. The Canon Pro9000 Mark II offers sinilar features but uses an 8-colour ink system with additional red and green inks for enhanced color reproduction. The Canon MP868 and MX328 are new all-in-one photo printers, and the LiDE 700F Film Scanner offers 9,600 x 9,600dpi optical resolution for high quality film scanning. All five products were originally announced by Canon Hong Kong.

In the US, the Canon PIXMA Pro9000 Mark II will be available in May for $499.99, the Canon PIXMA Pro9500 Mark II for $849.99, and the LiDE700F scanner in April for $129.99. In the UK and Europe, the Pro9000 Mark II will be available from June 2009 priced at £499.00 / €559.00 RRP inc. VAT., and the Pro9500 Mark II is available from June 2009 priced at £729.00 / €819.00 RRP inc. VAT.

FujifilmFujicolor Crystal Archive paper was rated top in a silver halide print longevity test by Wilhelm Imaging Research. It had the highest Display Permanence Rating amongst silver halide colour prints made with digital minilabs’ lasting 40 years under glass. In comparison, the equivalent Kodak paper managed just 19 years, and the worst performer in the test managed just 4 months. Food for thought when you next have your photos printed at a minilab…

EpsonEpson has extended its Collect&Recycle initiative to include postal return of inkjet printer cartridges. This programme aims to provide home users and small businesses with an easy, free solution to return their empty inkjet cartridges for recycling.  The Epson Collect&Recycle initiative has been running in Europe since February 2006, until now focusing on laser printer cartridges. 100% of the cartridges collected through the scheme are recycled: their plastic components are re-used in manufacturing and construction as raw materials, while metal parts are smelted and re-used in other industrial applications.
