Boinx Software has released FotoMagico 4, an update to its slideshow software. Highlights include an ability to work with up to six layers per slide, a new Timeline mode for making precise adjustments to each individual slide’s duration as well as the transition length between slides, easier syncing of photos and music, and more. FotoMagico 4 is now available both from the Mac App Store and the Boinx website for $99.99.

TeoreX has released Inpaint 4.7, a functional tool for effortless retouching of photos and images. The product features a range of instruments for one-click intelligent removal of unwanted objects from a picture, such as: accidental strangers, camera time stamps, watermarks, and more. Version 4.7 offers improved performance and a Magic Wand tool for quicker selection of objects. The price for a single licence of Inpaint is available for $19.99 (Mac/Windows).

Smugmug has added native iPad support to its Camera Awesome app. Billed as “the only free iPad app that combines professional-grade camera capture and editing functions along with simple sharing,” Camera Awesome for iPad supports the newly-released iOS 6 and takes full advantage of the device’s high-resolution display and features. Camera Awesome is available now on the iTunes App Store.

DxO Labs have released an update to DxO Optics Pro, adding support for raw files generated by the Canon EOS-1D X and the new Nikon D600 (pictured), as well as for the Panasonic Lumix DMC-G5 and DMC-LX7. Furthermore, almost 400 new camera/lens combinations have been added to the library of DxO optics modules, thereby providing support for additional Canon, Nikon, Olympus, Panasonic, Sigma, Tamron, Tokina, and Zeiss lenses for Canon, Nikon, Olympus, Panasonic, Pentax, and Sony cameras. Do note that the 1D X and D600 support is available in the Elite edition only.

Adobe has released version 1.4 of its Digital NeGative (DNG) specification. The industry-standard raw format has been expanded to include 1) a new lossy compression option, 2) a Default User Crop tag that allows the in-camera crop setting to be respected while enabling the photographer to “un-crop” the image, 3) new floating-point information storage that allows for a larger amount of dynamic range to be stored within a file, and 4) a Transparency option for “undefined” pixels around the edges of a panoramic image stitched in-camera.

Blurb has announced a new version of its easy-to-use ebook editor that allows authors to add video and audio to their iPad-compatible electronic books. “We have effectively turned digital storytelling on its head,” said Eileen Gittins, CEO and Founder, Blurb.co.uk. “You’ll get the familiar structure and narrative of a book, plus the freedom to add multimedia to create a richer, non-linear storytelling experience.”

One Memento is a new photography experiment designed to capture 250,000 single moments. Participants download a one-shot digital camera app from the iTunes App Store, giving them one chance to take a single photo for the experiment. All they have to do is capture an image, or choose one from their phone’s photo gallery, add a comment and share it on Facebook or Twitter. Their ‘One Memento’ will be kept safe in an online gallery for their friends and the world to view. Once shared, the user’s One Memento can’t be altered or deleted - according to the initiators of the campaign, this forces users to think before they shoot and share.

ColoRotate, originally a 3D colour picker and editor plug-in for Adobe Photoshop CS4, is now available for the Apple iPad. Designed for swiftly creating and editing custom colour palettes, the app is claimed to work “great alone, or connected to Photoshop CS5 or CS6.” ColoRotate for iPad currently sells for €3.99 on iTunes.

Adobe has posted updates to Adobe Camera Raw (ACR), DNG Converter and Lightroom, including preliminary support for the Nikon D600 digital SLR camera (pictured), allowing you to play with the raw files provided in our Nikon D600 review. The updates also add support for 21 other cameras ranging from the Canon EOS 650D / Rebel T4i to the Sony DSC-RX100 and profiles for over 40 Canon, Carl Zeiss, Hasselblad, Leica, Nikon, Pentax, Sigma and Tamron lenses. The Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 4.2 and Adobe Camera Raw 7.2 updates additionally incorporate a number of bug fixes.

Akvis has updated its ArtSuite to version 9.0. ArtSuite is a collection of versatile effects for decorating photos. The effects are grouped in two categories - Frames and Artistic Effects. Version 9.0 adds a new Halftone effect which turns a photo into a halftone picture giving it a retro comic book look. Also, in the new version the list of the ready-to-use Presets has been added to the Effects. Additionally, in both groups, Frames and Effects, it’s possible to save a preset to a file and load it from the file using the buttons in the top panel.

ReaSoft Development has released a new version of ReaConverter, its batch image conversion and editing program for Windows. New features include an ability to convert PDF/EPS/AI files with anti-aliasing option, support for a new raw image file format and new cameras, new editing tools and more. The program is available in three editions: Lite, Standard and Pro. The price for a single-user licence starts from $24.95.

FlickinAmazing is a full-screen Flickr client for the Apple iPad. ACD Systems have rekeased Version 15 of ACDSee and Version 6 of ACDSee Pro. New features in both programs include a new Smart Blur filter, new Clarity tool, an option to create unlimited keyword hierarchies, the ability to burn images to a Blu-Ray disk, native 64-bit support, improved colour management and sharpening, a dedicated black-and-white mode, and more. In addition to the enhancements that benefit both programs, ACDSee 15 also offers improved red-eye removal. ACDSee Pro 6 is available at a suggested retail price of $99.99. ACDSee 15 retails for $49.99.

Adobe has released Photoshop Elements 11. The software features a completely refreshed, user-friendly interface, new guided edits, new filters, intelligent object removal and new options to organise your photos. Furthermore, the company has also launched Adobe Premiere Elements 11, which “offers easy creation of engaging home movies with professional flair.” Both programs are available now, priced at $99.99 each, or $149.99 for a bundle that includes both.

CyberLink has launched AudioDirector – a sound design solution for creating effective audio for video projects. “AudioDirector occupies a unique middle ground to suit professionals and budding creators alike: software that isn’t a down-scaled version of an incredibly complex tool, yet isn’t too simplistic for power users,” the company says. CyberLink AudioDirector is available today for £99.99.

The Triggertrap Mobile app, previously offered for iOS devices only, is now available for smartphones running Android 2.3 Gingerbread or higher. Aimed at the mainstream photography market, the Android software is paired with a Triggertrap Mobile Dongle, a hardware device enabling photographers to connect their smartphones to SLR cameras. Triggertrap provides consumers with creative triggering solutions by offering an array of different ways to trigger their digital SLR cameras from their Android powered smartphones. Not content with just being a cable release, the Triggertrap Mobile for Android app comes with eight different modes, giving users the chance to easily take a broad range of images, including five different timelapse modes, long-exposure HDR modes and ‘star trail’ photography mode. The timelapse modes include Eased Timelapse, which enables photographers to take timelapse sets that include acceleration, and Bulb Ramping timelapses; perfect for photographing ultra-smooth timelapse sets of sunrises and sunsets. The Android app costs £2.99. Users will need a Triggertrap Mobile Dongle (£15.80) and a matching cable (£6.30). A dongle and cable bundle is available for £19.00.

Google has acquired Nik Software, a company noted for its U-point technology, various Photoshop plug-ins and Snapseed, a mobile and desktop image editing & sharing application for iOS, Mac and Windows. Nik Software has earned many accolades for its products - including Apple’s iPad App of the Year 2011 for Snapseed and our own Software of the Year 2011 award for Silver Efex Pro 2 - but the main drive behind Google’s move was probably the financial success of Snapseed, which has attracted a large following despite being a paid application. Further details of the deal have not been disclosed.

Akvis has released version 3.0 of Akvis HDRFactory Windows and Macintosh. This update adds the new Remove Noise parameter, provides compatibility with Mac OS X 10.8, fixes bugs, and updates the list of the ready-to-use presets. The Deluxe and Business variants offer a special feature - the Ghost Removal tool which helps repair the so-called “ghosts” that sometimes appear when creating an HDR image. Akvis HDRFactory sells for $69 for the Home version (either Plugin or Standalone), $99 for the Home Deluxe variant (Plugin and Standalone) and $189 for the Business edition.

Photodex has released its video slideshow app for the Apple iPad and iPhone, ProShow Web. The app lets users easily mix photos, videos, text and music together into professional-quality video slideshows. It integrates with popular photo sharing platforms so users can create videos by importing their photos from their Camera Roll, Instagram, Facebook, Flickr, 500px and SmugMug. The app is free to use for a 15-photo video. Unlimited, full-length videos start at $4.99/ month and plans can be purchased in-app. Photodex Proshow Web for iOS is available now on iTunes
