Forces Mutual today announced the winners of their photography competition for the British Armed Forces community including Civilian Contractors and the wider Military family. Overall winner Royal Engineer Section Commander Nick Johns was awarded the highest prize for capturing fellow 22 Engineer Regiment “Sapper” and street artist Adam Williams painting Queen Elizabeth II onto a wall in their Camp Taji barracks in Iraq to commemorate Her Majesty the Queen’s 90th birthday in May 2016. The judges were unanimous in their selection of the overall winning image, impressed by the juxtaposition of the informality of street art with the regal splendour of a royal portrait, all within the stark and dusty confines of a Military camp in Iraq. As overall prize winner Nick will receive £750 of photography vouchers from Forces Mutual. Winners of the additional Genuine Moments categories include Wayne Page Sr., Philip Dye, James Goff, Tilly Lambert Lee, Otis Taitt and Philip Collins.

The Galerie Thierry Bigaignon (Paris) is staging a retrospective of Harold Feinstein's work. The first part, on show from 3rd February to 30th April, will be dedicated to the early years (1940s and 1950s) with a selection of black-and-white photographs. As a representative of the so-called 'New York school of photography', Feinstein spent six decades photographing the streets of New York and became known for his appreciative and empathic portrayal of the human condition. Though his Coney Island work has been much celebrated, Feinstein's breadth and exposure is far greater, including a large body of classic street photography, nudes, portraits, still life and an intimate portrayal of the life of a conscripted soldier during the Korean War. Former New York Times critic and historian A.D. Coleman wrote: "Harold Feinstein is a true photographer’s photographer, and one of the most seriously under-recognized senior figures in U.S. photography."

The new Xenon FF-Prime Cine-Tilt lenses from Schneider-Kreuznach combine a similar form factor and capabilities as the company’s popular full-frame primes with an added tilt function up to ±4°. By sustaining the field of view during focus and tilt actions, the new cine-tilt design means that previously unimaginable images can be taken by moving and tilting the focus plane. The tilt of the lens is controlled via a high-precision ring with 120° rotation that is as intuitive to operate as pulling focus. Thanks to the common 0.8 module gear, the Cine-Tilt can be used with standard follow-focus systems.
