Canon EOS R5 Firmware Version 1.1.0 Addresses Overheating Issues

Firmware version 1.1.0 for the Canon EOS R5 camera improves temperature detection and video recording time control, no longer disables the overheat control when using an external monitor/recorder, and improves the accuracy of remaining movie recording time display in situations where the camera is frequently turned on and off between recording consecutive, short videos.

The 1.1.0 EOS R5 firmware update is available to download from today, 27 August 2020. The EOS R6 camera will also benefit from these fixes in a future update.

In addition, Canon have announced plans to add extra features to the EOS R5 and the EOS-1D X Mark III via a series of future firmware updates for those models, including the addition of Canon Log 3 and 120fps Full HD recording for the EOS R5.

Canon EOS 850D DSLR Camera, 24 Megapixels, 7fps Burst Shooting, 4K Video

The new Canon EOS 850D DSLR camera is the successor to the EOS 77D and 800D models, with both lines merging into one.

Canon are still dedicated to DSLR and mirrorless systems, giving people more choice, with both system having their own particular merits and drawbacks.

The Canon 850D (also known as the EOS Rebel T8i in the US) has a very similar design to the 800D, sitting between the 250D and 90D in the EOS range.

This is a 24 megapixel APS-C DSLR with the latest Digic 8 processor. It offers 7fps burst shooting, Eye Detection AF, Dual Pixel CMOS 45 point all cross-type AF system, 400K pixel AE sensor, and 4K 24/25p cropped video (same as the EOS 250D).

It now features a new Quick Control dial and a new AF-ON button, plus a 3.5mm jack for an external mic.

The Canon EOS 850D will be available from April 2020 priced at £819.99 / €989.99 body-only.

In the US, the EOS Rebel T8i camera body has an estimated retail price of $749.99 and the EOS Rebel T8i kit with EF-S 18-55mm F4-5.6 IS STM lens has an estimated retail price of $899.99.

Canon Launches New SDK and API Package for Select Cameras

Canon have launched a combined EOS Digital software development kit (SDK) and all-new Camera Control API (CCAPI) which allows developers and software engineers to take advantage of select Canon cameras and lenses, starting with the PowerShot SX70 HS superzoom.

The Canon PowerShot SX70 HS super-zoom camera features a 65x optical zoom, 20.3 megapixel CMOS imaging sensor, high-resolution 2.36-million dot electronic viewfinder, built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth technology and 4K video recording.

Canon EOS R Full-frame Mirrorless Camera and 4 RF Mount Lenses Officially Announced

The Canon EOS R full-frame mirrorless camera features the Worlds fastest autofocus of 0.05sec which is functional down to -6EV, a 30 megapixel full-frame sensor, touch and drag AF with 5,655 AF positions that can be selected virtually anywhere in the frame, a magnesium alloy body, 4K video recording, truly silent shooting, and an EVF with 100% coverage and 3.69 million dots.

The Canon EOS R system has now been officially announced – “This is the first chapter of a new story”. Development of an entirely new mount, plus full-frame sensor, that has been built from the ground up. A new 54mm internal diameter lens mount with short back focus allows for greater freedom for optical design, with a 12-pin data communication system.

The Canon EOS R full-frame mirrorless camera is scheduled to be available in October 2018 for an estimated retail price of $2299* for the body only. It will also be sold as a body-and-lens kit with the new RF 24-105mm F4 L IS USM lens for $3399*.

Canon is also introducing a new compact and lightweight Speedlite, the EL-100. Designed for photographers who are just beginning to use an external flash or are in need of a secondary unit, the new Speedlite delivers both soft and natural lighting reproduction. Canon EOS C200

Canon today announced the Canon EOS C200, the latest addition to their Cinema EOS range. As the first Cinema EOS camera to support the new raw recording format – Cinema RAW Light – the EOS C200 provides the same flexibility in colour grading as Cinema RAW in a smaller file size, enabling filmmakers to record internally to a CFast 2.0 memory card. Newly developed Canon Dual DIGIC DV6 processors provide the ability to record internally 4K UHD/50P MP4, 4K DCI RAW and continuous 120fps High Frame Rate in Full HD without crop. At the same time, advances in Dual Pixel CMOS Auto Focus technology and a new touch screen LCD monitor provide smooth AF operation and effective tracking. Supporting up to 15-stops of dynamic range with Cinema RAW Light and up to 13-stops of dynamic range in MP4 (Canon Log / Log 3), the camera is capable of capturing both highlight and shadow details. Iridient Developer 3.1.4

Iridient Digital has released Iridient Developer 3.1.4, a raw file conversion and photo processing application for Mac OS X. This update brings support for the Canon PowerShot G9 X Mark II and EOS M6, the Fujifilm GFX 50S, X-T20, X100F. and X-A10, the Panasonic GH5 and FZ80, the Pentax KP, the Leica M10 and the Sigma sd Quattro H. The company also launched Iridient X-Transformer 1.0 beta 3 for both Mac OS and Windows, adding support for the Fujifilm GFX50S, X-T20 and X100F.

Canon Connect Station

Canon today announced its new Canon Connect Station mobile application for the Canon Connect Station CS100 device. The new app makes it easy to connect to the CS100 device from a compatible smartphone or tablet. Users simply connect to the same wireless network and open up the Canon Connect Station app to start browsing, uploading, and downloading images. They can also drag-and-drop images from their computer or select multiple images at a time. The application can save over 1,000 images at one time and easily identifies previously saved and stored photos, helping to eliminate duplicates stored on the Canon Connect Station CS100 device. Additionally, users can now edit album names and add comments using the mobile app. The new Canon Connect Station Mobile Application is available for free on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.

Canon EOS 80D and EOS M3 Video Creator Kits

Canon will showcase its new Canon EOS 80D and EOS M3 Video Creator Kits during VidCon 2016 at the Anaheim Convention Center, 23-25 June 2016. The EOS 80D Video Creator Kit ($2,049.00, available from August 2016) includes an EOS 80D DSLR camera and EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM lens, an external microphone and 32GB SD card. This kit also includes the Canon Power Zoom Adapter PZ-E1 which allows creators to smoothly control their zoom at the push of a button or right from their compatible smartphone by using the Canon Camera Connect app. The EOS M3 Video Creator Kit ($899.99, available later this month) includes an EOS M3 compact system camera and EF-M 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM lens, an external microphone and a 32GB SD card. The new bundles join a family of Video Creator Kits that include the EOS Rebel T6i, Rebel T5i and EOS 70D.

World Press Photo of the Year 2015 Goes to Warren Richardson

An image by Budapest-based Australian photojournalist Warren Richardson has been selected as the World Press Photo of the Year 2015. Taken at night on 28 August 2015, the photograph (above) shows migrants crossing the frontier from Serbia into Hungary across a temporary razor wire obstacle deployed before the completion of a taller and more robust border fence. "I was exhausted by the time I took the picture," Richardson says. "It was around three o’clock in the morning and you can’t use a flash while the police are trying to find these people, because I would just give them away. So I had to use the moonlight alone." The 2016 contest drew entries from around the world: 5,775 photographers from 128 countries submitted 82,951 images. The jury gave prizes in eight categories to 41 photographers from 21 countries including Australia, Austria, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, Iran, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Portugal, Russia, Slovenia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Syria, Turkey, and the USA.

Canon XA30 & XA35 Full HD Camcorders

Canon has announced the new Canon XA35 and XA30 full HD professional camcorders. Both models feature a 20x optical zoom lens and a new, advanced HD CMOS PRO image sensor with low-luminance noise of +3dB for improved low-light image capture. The duo also boasts two new video-recording modes: Highlight Priority and Wide DR, the latter of which achieves a dynamic range that has been expanded to 600% compared to the 300% on the predecessor Canon XA25/XA20 camcorder models. Other highlights include variable frame rates of 60fps and 24fps, dual SD card slots, AVCHD (28Mbps) and MP4 (35Mbps) compression and an HD/SD-SDI output (XA35 only) to feed video directly to a microwave van, satellite uplink, or other TV transmission system. A wireless remote feature also enables users to control the XA35 and XA30 camcorders via a web browser on the user's compatible PC or mobile device.The Canon XA35 and XA30 HD camcorders are scheduled to be available the end of November 2015 for an estimated retail price of $2,999 and $2,499 respectively.

Iridient Developer 3.0.6

Iridient Digital has released Iridient Developer 3.0.6 for Mac OS X. This update adds support for the Canon EOS M10, PowerShot G5 X and PowerShot G9 X, the Sony DSC-RX1R II and the Leica SL (Typ 601) cameras. Additionally, this release fixes several bugs including a crash on load with some DNG images converted automatically on import by recent versions of Adobe Lightroom, an issue with clipped highlight handling for some DNG images that use gain map opcodes and sporadic issues with serial number validation. This update is free for all previously registered users who purchased a new or upgraded license after 14 April 2013.

Canon EOS M3 Goes to America

Canon have announced the upcoming US launch of their EOS M3 compact system camera. The company's third CSC has an 24.2 megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor, DIGIC 6 processor, a touch-screen interface, Hybrid CMOS AF III and 49-point AF System, Full 1080p HD Movie mode, ISO 100-12800, a 3-inch 1,040,000-dot LCD monitor that tilts up 180 degrees and down 45 degrees, integrated Wi-Fi and NFC connectivity, 4.2fps burst shooting, 14-bit RAW support, built-in pop-up flash and a flash hot-shoe. The Canon EOS M3 will go on sale in the US in early October for an estimated retail price of $679.99. An EOS M3 EF-M 18-55mm IS STM lens kit will be available in the customer’s choice of black or white for an estimated retail price of $799.99. Additionally, a two-lens kit featuring the EOS M3 digital camera with the EF-M 18-55mm IS STM lens and the EF-M 55-200mm IS STM lens will be on sale for an estimated retail price of $1,049.00.

DxO OpticsPro 10.4.3

DxO have released DxO OpticsPro 10.4.3, DxO FilmPack 5.1.5 and DxO ViewPoint 2.5.7. These updates add support for the Canon EOS 750D / Rebel T6i, the EOS 760D / Rebel T6s and the EOS M3, as well as the Leica T (Typ 701), the Nikon 1 J5 (pictured) and the Pentax K-3 II. DxO OpticsPro 10.4.3 also adds 672 new camera/lens combinations to the DxO Optics Module library, providing support for Canon, GoPro, Leica, Nikon, Pentax, Samsung, Sigma, Sony, Tamron, Tokina and Zeiss lenses for numerous Canon, GoPro, Leica, Nikon, Pentax, Samsung and Sony cameras.

DxO have released DxO OpticsPro 10.4.2, DxO FilmPack v5.1.4, and DxO ViewPoint 2.5.6 for Mac and Windows. These updates add support for the Canon EOS 5DS and 5DS R. Additionally, DxO OpticsPro 10.4.2 also adds 789 new camera/lens combinations to its DxO Optics Modules library, whilst DxO FilmPack 5.1.4 and DxO ViewPoint 2.5.6 gain full compatibility with Adobe Photoshop CC 2015.

Iridient Developer 3.0.2

Iridient Digital has released Iridient Developer 3.0.2. This update adds support for the Nikon 1 J5, the Olympus TG-4 and Stylus 1S, the Leica M Monochrom (Typ 246), the Canon EOS 760D (Rebel T6s, 8000D), EOS 750D (Rebel T6i, Kiss X8i) and the EOS M3. Additionally, it includes further improvements to the v3 noise reduction introduced in version 3. Both Luminance and Colour noise reduction adjustments in particular are now much more effective with some forms of noise, especially when strongly increasing shadow brightness and with high ISO images. The maximum strength of noise reduction has also been increased to give smoother, lower noise output when set to high levels while still retaining good detail and colour fidelity.

Canon Launches Digital Photo Professional 4.0

Canon has announced the upcoming launch of Digital Photo Professional (DPP) 4.0. The latest version of DPP - available for download at the end of this mont - has been updated with a number of new features and enhancements, These include faster, real-time adjustments, better integration with EOS Utility, movie playback support, improved raw file workflow, enhanced highlight recovery, and much more. A new colour adjustment palette allows hue, saturation and luminance adjustment for eight individual colour gamuts, enabling the user to adjust one specific colour in isolation without affecting the image as a whole. For those photographers with dual monitors, DPP now allows a secondary monitor to be used as the preview window on the primary display. Do note that DPP 4.0 will be compatible only with 64-bit operating systems.

Iridient Developer 2.4 for Mac

Iridient Digital has released Iridient Developer 2.4, a major update to its critically acclaimed raw converter and image editor for Mac OS X. This update includes a number of new features to provide better integration with other photo management tools, in particular Lightroom and Aperture. New features include 'Find and Open raw' for doing a local search for the raw source of a standard image, the ability to overwrite standard images in place and support for automatically opening the raw source image when sent a standard image for external editing. Version 2.4 also adds support for the Leica T, Samsung NX mini, Canon Powershot G1 X II, Sony A77 II, Nikon 1 V3, Nikon 1 J4 and Panasonic DMC-GH4 cameras, and fixes bugs. Do note that this release is a paid upgrade for users who originally purchased a license prior to 1 November 2012.

Transcend Launch SDXC/SDHC UHS-I Speed Class 3 Cards

Transcend have released a range of SDXC/SDHC UHS-I cards featuring full support for the Ultra High Speed Class 3 (U3) specification. Recently released by the SD Association, the Ultra High Speed Class 3 specification guarantees a minimum constant write speed of 30MB/s to facilitate cinema-quality video recording. Transcend’s SDXC UHS-I U3 and SDXC/SDHC UHS-I U3X “Extreme” cards, however, can achieve at least double this performance with write speeds of up to 60MB/s and 85MB/s respectively. In devices that do not support the UHS-I specification, Transcend’s SDXC/SDHC UHS-I U3 cards offer constant write speeds of at least 10MB/s (SD Speed Class 10 performance). The SDXC UHS-I U3 cards (R95MB/s, W60MB/s) are available in 64GB (US$49) and 128GB (US$109) capacities, while the SDXC/SDHC UHS-I U3X cards (R95MB/s, W85MB/s) are available in 32GB (US$59) and 64GB (US$119) capacities.

New Service Upgrade for Canon EOS-1D C

Canon has announced plans to issue a major service upgrade for the Canon EOS-1D C 4K cinema camera. This update will enable Canon EF-mount Cinema lenses to store lens metadata in the video recorded by the camera. Furthermore, Canon EF-mount Cinema lenses will be supported by Peripheral Illumination and Chromatic Aberration Correction functions. Additionally - in response to user requests -, audio on the EOS-1D C camera will also be enhanced. Currently audio recording is limited to a MIC input, but the forthcoming service update will permit selection of LINE or MIC input, allowing use of a wider variety of external audio sources. The update for the Canon EOS-1D C digital SLR cinema camera is scheduled to be available November 2013. Do note that this service upgrade that requires the camera to be sent to an authorised Canon Factory Service Center.

Pocket Wizard Firmware Update 6.200 for Canon

Canon EOS-1D X Firmware 1.1.1

Canon has issued a firmware update for the Canon EOS-1D X digital SLR camera, enabling AF with lens-teleconverter combinations as slow as f/8. Furthermore during AI Servo AF shooting in low light,  viewfinder information is now illuminated, with the AF points blinking intermittently in red, allowing them to be easily confirmed whilst shooting, without affecting the metering of the scene. Canon EOS 7D Firmware V2

Canon has announced the upcoming release of a major firmware update to its EOS 7D digital SLR camera. Version 2 adds “powerful memory management algorithms” that allow the camera’s buffer to accommodate up to 25 raw files or 130 JPEGs. Additionally, a range of newly-added editing functions gives photographers more control over how images look, allowing post-production to begin in-camera. The firmware update also offers improved audio functionality in movie mode, a digital wind-cut filter, expanded user control over the camera’s auto ISO feature, as well as added capacity for users to track the location of their still images with new support for the GPS Receiver GP-E2. Firmware v2 will roll out from August 2012.

Canon’s Photography in the Parks Programme Returns

Canon U.S,A, is once again joining forces with several of the country’s acclaimed national parks to offer free photography workshops to visitors this summer. Providing participants with free equipment loans and professional photography instruction as they take part in a guided walking photo tour, the workshops also offer an opportunity to print images for free. New to this year’s program are Canon video workshop sessions.  Visitors can experience and learn about shooting video by using a Canon VIXIA camcorder or EOS digital SLR camera and participating in a hands-on videography demonstration with experts. Phantom Miro M320S

Vision Research has announced the Phantom Miro M320S digital high-speed camera. The Miro M320S is capable of recording 1320 frames per second (fps) at its full resolution of 1920x1200 pixels; 1540fps at 1920x1080 Full HD resolution; 2250fps at 1152x1152 pixels; and higher frame rates at reduced resolutions. The Phantom Miro M320S has a 19.2x12.0mm, >2-megapixel CMOS imager, offers 12-bit analogue-to-digital conversion and can be configured with 3GB, 6GB or 12GB of internal RAM. Featuring a single HD-SDI output, the M320S can adapt to a wide range of monitors and HD field recorders for a video-based workflow.  For maximum quality using uncompressed raw files, the M320S takes advantage of the new Phantom CineFlash Storage system, which ships standard with every M320S camera. The removable CineFlash drives offer up to 240GB of storage. Available with Canon EF, Nikon F, 35mm PL and C lens mounts for approximately $44,000, the Phantom Miro M320S is primarily targeted at TV production crews, engineers and scientists, but we would not be surprised to see the technology trickle down to consumer products in the future.

Canon EOS 5D Mark III Photos

Ahead of our full review, here are 63 sample JPEG photos and a movie taken with the new Canon EOS 5D Mark III DSLR camera. The Canon EOS 5D Mark III is a 35mm full-frame digital SLR camera with a 22-megapixel sensor, 61-point auto focus system, sensitivity range of ISO 100-25,600 and Full HD video with manual control.

Canon GP-E2

The new Canon GP-E2 hot-shoe mounted GPS unit is compatible with the Canon EOS-1D X, EOS 7D (via cable only)  and new EOS 5D Mark III digital SLR cameras. Capable of tagging photos with longitude, latitude and altitude data as well as the direction in which the shot was taken, the Canon GP-E2 also features a GPS logger function that allows photographers to track their route by downloading GPS data at regular intervals, whether the unit is attached to the camera body or stored in its case. For improved accuracy and precision when recording the time of image capture, photographers can also synchronise the clocks of their cameras with the global atomic clock via UTC information downloaded from the satellite. The Canon GP-E2 is powered by a single AA battery.

Canon PIXMA MG8220 and MG6220

The Canon PIXMA MG8220 and MG6220 are two new 802.11n Wi-Fi certified all-in-one printers. The PIXMA MG8220 will have an estimated selling price of $299.99, while the PIXMA MG6220 will have an estimated selling price of $199.99.

Canon Pixma MG5320 & Pixma iP4920

Canon has announced a new photo inkjet printer and a new all-in-one device. The Canon Pixma iP4920 Photo Inkjet Printer ($99.99) utilises the ChromaLife100 + ink system with five individual ink tanks, and produces a 4”x6” borderless photo in approximately 20 seconds. The Pixma MG5320 Wireless Photo All-In-One device ($149.99, pictured) uses the same ink system and is capable of a similar printing performance, but can additionally be used as a photocopier and a scanner. Both new products feature significant upgrades to Canon’s Easy-PhotoPrint EX and Full HD Movie Print software.

Capture One 6.2

Phase One has released Capture One 6.2, which adds camera support for a range of Samsung, Fuji, Ricoh, Panasonic, Canon, Sony and Nikon cameras, as well as the Phase One IQ180, IQ160 and IQ140. Further additions and improvements include local adjustment of saturation and clarity and the ability to copy a local adjustments mask from other layer, auto sync of XMP metadata, additional camera controls for Canon and Nikon, and improved OpenCL and 64 bit performance. Capture One version 6.2 is a free upgrade to current owners of Capture One Express 6 and Capture one Pro 6.

Canon Pixma MG6120 and MG8120

Canon today added two wireless All-In-One (AIO) devices with Intelligent Touch System to its Pixma range. The new Intelligent Touch System promises easier and quicker menu navigation thanks to capacitive touch technology which picks up on electricity in the users body when a finger glides across the touch surface. The Canon Pixma MG8120 ($299.99, pictured) offers a built-in Film Adapter Unit and boasts improved photo printing times, while the more affordable ($199.99) MG6120 is almost the same thing sans the film adapter. Both the Pixma MG6120 and the Pixma MG8120 feature the recently upgraded versions of Auto Photo Fix II, Easy-PhotoPrint EX and Easy-WebPrint EX technologies and both are are 802.11n Wi-Fi certified.

Canon U.S.A. has unveiled five new Canon Pixma printers sporting a ‘Full HD Movie Print’ feature that lets users print out individual frames from HD movies as still photographs. In addition to this, these new models - including the Canon Pixma MG5220 ($149.99, pictured) and Pixma MP495 ($79.99) Wireless Photo All-in-One printers, the Pixma MG5120 ($129.99) and Pixma MP280 ($69.99) Photo All-in-One printers and the Pixma iP4820 ($99.99) inkjet printer - will feature improvements to Auto Photo Fix II, while Easy-PhotoPrint EX software now allows users to search and use images from Flickr. Note that “Full HD Movie Print” is available from ‘MOV’ movie files created by certain Canon digital cameras only.

Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 2.7, ACR 5.7 & DNG Converter 5.7

Adobe today released final versions of Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 2.7, Adobe Camera Raw 5.7 and Adobe DNG Converter 5.7. The updates add raw file support for nine new cameras and digital backs, including the Canon EOS 550D, Kodak Z981, Leaf Aptus-II 8,  Leaf Aptus-II 10R, Mamiya DM40, Olympus E-PL1, Panasonic G2, Panasonic G10 and Sony A450. Lightroom 2.7 is available as a free download for Lightroom 2 customers, and Photoshop Camera Raw 5.7 is available as a free download for Photoshop CS4, Photoshop Elements 8 and Premiere Elements 8 customers. Capture One 5.1

Capture One 5.1 is the latest version of Phase One’s raw conversion, workflow and image editing application. The basic version now features both a simplified workspace and ‘pro’ image-editing options; Capture One 5.1 PRO comes with new tools for advanced noise reduction and image editing efficiency. Version 5.1 is free to existing Capture One 5.x/5.x PRO owners.

Lexar have unveiled a new 600x Compact Flash card with a guaranteed minimum write speed of 90MB/s. Available in 8GB, 16GB, and 32GB capacities,  the Lexar Professional 600x CF card works with the latest UDMA 6 enabled cameras, including the Canon EOS 5D Mark II, EOS 7D and the new 1D Mark IV, and the Nikon D3x, D3s and D300s.

Lexar’s 600x card also offers increased image transfer speeds from card-to-computer with minimum sustained read speeds of 533x (80MB/s), or faster when paired with the new Lexar Professional ExpressCard CompactFlash Reader. This is a portable, high-performance reader that requires no cables and connects directly to a PC or Mac laptop computer’s ExpressCard slot.

Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 2.4

Adobe today released the final Photoshop Lightroom 2.4 and Camera Raw 5.4 updates. Both updates bring additional raw file support to 31camera and camera back models including the Canon EOS 500D, Nikon D5000. In addition, Adobe released an update to its Digital Negative specification. DNG 1.3 now includes opcodes, a defined list of operations and their parameters for performing complex activities in the raw file conversion process. By utilising opcodes, photographers can maintain the advantages of raw mosaic data, giving them increased opportunity to improve their photographs with the maximum amount of image data preserved. The Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 2.4 update is available as a free download for existing Lightroom 2 customers and Camera Raw 5.4 is available as a free download for existing customers of Photoshop CS4, Photoshop Elements 7, Premiere Elements 7 and Photoshop Elements 6 for Mac. Adobe has released its Photoshop Camera Raw 5.4 Release Candidate, available immediately as a free download for existing customers of Photoshop CS4, Photoshop Elements 7, Premiere Elements 7 and Photoshop Elements 6 for Mac. The Camera Raw 5.4 Release Candidate extends raw file support to an additional 26 camera and camera back models including the Canon EOS 500D (EOS Rebel T1i), Epson R-D1x, Kodak EasyShare Z980, Nikon D5000, Olympus E-620, Olympus E-450, Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH1, Sigma DP2 and 18 Hasselblad models.

Canon EOS-1D Mark III v1.0.9 Firmware Update

Canon EOS-1D Mark IIICanon has developed a new firmware update, version 1.0.9, for the EOS-1D Mark III DSLR camera. This firmware update incorporates the following improvements and fixes:

Improves the look of images when enlarged on the LCD monitor. Applies a slightly stronger sharpness setting to the LCD monitor when images are enlarged.
Improves the consistency of AI Servo AF under certain conditions. Reduces the tendency of the camera to autofocus on high-contrast backgrounds when shooting in conditions where AF detection is difficult, such as when the main subject is not completely covered by the AF frames or if the main subject’s contrast is low.
Provides countermeasures for Main Dial response errors (Main, Quick Control, Vertical-grip Main). Fixes a rare response error in the Main Dials in which they either did not respond when rotated or would change several clicks’ worth even if only clicked once.
Corrects errors in the Italian and Simplified Chinese menu screens.

The new firmware will be made available for download from the Web at the end of July.

Apparenty a Canon EOS 350D was sold every 90 seconds in the UK during the first half of 2006 - I wouldn’t bet against the 400D emulating that success. Canon, leader in photographic and imaging technology, is pleased to announce the launch of the 12.8 Megapixel EOS 5D, creating a new D-SLR category combining a full frame CMOS sensor with a lightweight, compact magnesium alloy body. Weighing just 810 grams, it features a second generation 35.8 x 23.9mm CMOS sensor, 3 frame per second, 60 Large JPEG frame burst and 0.2 second start up time operation.
