Phottix has unveiled a new wireless flash trigger system designed to work with Canon’s E-TTL and RT flash units. Allowing users to control both radio-enabled and non-radio flashes from Canon, the Phottix Laso Transmitter can trigger up to 5 groups (15 units) of Canon system flashes and supports multiple flash modes, including E-TTL II/E-TTL, Manual, MULTI, Ext.A and Linked Shooting. The Laso Receiver can also be connected to studio lights, offering the ability to mix hot-shoe flashes and studio strobes. The Phottix Laso system is now available in the United States.

PhotoSpring 8 is a new-generation digital photo frame billed as the World's first completely automated digital photo album. The device features an 8" touch-screen with a resolution of 1280x800 pixels, built-in SD, microSD and USB slots, as well as WiFi connectivity. It automatically gathers photos from various sources, and organises them in a single, easy-to-access location. Facial recognition technology automatically identifies and tags the people in each photo. The search function can find photos by people, location, date, or any combination of the three. Photos can be automatically shared with designated family and friends based on the people tagged in each photo. PhotoSpring 8 also includes an integrated voice-activated digital assistant to help with everyday tasks and information requests. The product - which is currently seeking funding via Kickstarter - shall be available from April 2016. Pricing for the base model with 16GB of memory will start at $199 but "early birds" can get it for $99 by backing the project now.

Metabones have released a firmware update for their EF-mount Speed Boosters and Smart Adapters. Version 1.8 adds support for the on-sensor phase-detect auto-focus (PDAF) function of the Olympus OM-D E-M1 and Sony Alpha 7R II compact system cameras. In addition, this firmware upgrade provides support for the fast contrast-detect auto-focus (CDAF) feature of the Olympus E-M5II, E-M5, E-M10 and E-P5 models. Apple today introduced the iPad Pro, featuring a 12.9" Retina display with 5.6 million pixels. The new tablet comes with a powerful new 64-bit A9X processor, while still offering up to 10 hours of battery life. An optional accessory called the Apple Pencil allows for extremely precise photo editing when used in tandem with the new Photoshop Fix app. Running on iOS9, the new Apple iPad Pro features an 8-megapixel iSight camera, and can be paired with Apple’s new Smart Keyboard for increased productivity. The iPad Pro starts at $799 for the 32GB model with Wi-Fi model and $1079 for the Wi-Fi + Cellular 128GB edition, and will be available starting in November. The Apple Pencil will retail for $99, and the Smart Keyboard will be available for $169.

Canon today announced that it is developing a Cinema EOS System 8K camera and professional-use 8K reference display, along with a 120-megapixel still-image SLR camera. The Cinema EOS System 8K camera being developed will be equipped with a Canon Super 35 mm-equivalent CMOS sensor that makes possible high-resolution 8,192 x 4,320 pixel video performance even at a frame rate of 60fps with 13 stops of dynamic range. The 8K reference display currently under development will achieve high brightness, high contrast and a wide gamut, as well as a pixel density exceeding 300ppi.

Transcend Information have announced a high-end UHS-II U3 compliant memory card. By utilising the new UHS-II bus standard featuring a UHS Speed Class rating of 3, Transcend's new SDHC/SDXC UHS-II U3 card boasts a maximum read speed of up to 285MB/s and with write speeds of up to 180MB/s. Canon is developing an APS-H-size CMOS sensor incorporating approximately 250 million pixels. With CMOS imagers, increases in pixel counts result in increased signal volume, which can cause such problems as signal delays and slight discrepancies in timing. The new Canon-developed CMOS sensor, however, despite its exceptionally high pixel count, achieves an ultra-high signal readout speed of 1.25 billion pixels per second, made possible through such advancements as circuit miniaturisation and enhanced signal-processing technology. Accordingly, the sensor enables ultra-high-resolution sequential shooting at a speed of five frames per second. Canon is considering the application of this technology in specialised surveillance and crime prevention tools, ultra-high-resolution measuring instruments and other industrial equipment, and the field of "visual expression."
