Panasonic DMC-FX5DigitalCameraInfo.com have reviewed the Panasonic DMC-FX5, which features a 1/2.5” CCD with a total of 4.23 mega pixels and interestingly a stabilized 3X zoom lens.

“With complicated menu settings and features that are more accessible to the seasoned digital camera user, the camera misses its point-and-shoot market. However, with fewer manual controls than many similarly priced models, and with its small size and compact layout, it still appeals to a specific point-and-shoot user. This slightly perplexing situation aside, it does have a small sleek design, a comfortable grip, easy access and control of even the smaller buttons, plus the portability that many consumers demand in a digital camera.”

Pentax Optio XPocket-Lint have posted their review of the 5 megapixel Pentax Optio X.

“Picture quality is pretty good in terms of metering, but the Auto Focus (AF) suffers if the subject lacks contrast; there?s a degree of barrel distortion at the lens?s wide-end too. Captured detail is compromised somewhat by the camera?s processing, even in the top, ?Best? setting, some detail is lost to JPEG artifacts.”

FujiFilm FinePix S3100Imaging Resource have just reviewed the 4 megapixel FujiFilm FinePix S3100 digital compact camera.

“The previous Fuji FinePix 2800 and 3800 Zoom cameras turned out to be exceptional values for the money, and the updated FinePix S3100 offers the same great value with the addtion of a 4.0-megapixel CCD. The S3100’s higher resolution is a welcome improvement, providing great image quality for a budget-priced digicam, and its 6x optical zoom is excellent for distant subjects.”

Olympus Mju - mini DIGITALDigiCamReview.co.uk have just posted their review of the diminutive and stylish 4 megapixel Olympus Mju Mini digicam (called the Stylus Verve in the USA).

“When outside image quality is good - the images have accurate and pleasing colour, and good detail although images could do with a slight sharpen, unfortunately there is no option to increase sharpness in camera. Images have low noise. There is some purple fringing, but it doesn’t appear to be a major problem. Image compression doesn’t seem to cause jpeg artifacts, and there is a good range of image sizes and compression options. The macro mode is very good. The flash didn’t cause problems when the subject was close. Auto white balance and metering seemed to be very good. The movie mode is good although VGA would be nice. When inside, the camera does an EXCELLENT job of focusing, even when used in low-light, and the small flash is surprisingly powerful.”

Canon PowerShot A95Photoxels have just published their 2004 Digital Camera Gift Guide, which includes the 5 megapixel Canon PowerShot A95 (pictured).

“This year, we have adopted a much more stringent selection methodology:

- We focus on image quality, low noise and fast shutter response as our main selection criteria. A digital camera has to do very well in all three criteria to earn an Editor’s Choice.

- Note that, of necessity, only the digital cameras we have had the opportunity to review during this year 2004 have been considered for Editor’s Choice.”

HP Photosmart 435DigitalCameraInfo have reviewed the HP Photosmart 435, an entry-level 3 megapixel digital camera with a fixed lens and an estimated U.S. retail price of $149.

“First and foremost, the Photosmart 435 is a budget, entry-level point-and-shoot camera. This means it cannot be expected to have manual features that would impress photojournalists or a zoom lens that would make you feel important. That said, the Photosmart 435 is a great beginner?s camera, especially for the price, and can prove to take some solid pictures. The fact that it does not have any manual control options can be either seen as a limitation (if this is the case, you need to accept that you will have to spend more), or as a relief. How you perceive this will really decide if this is the camera for you.”

Kodak Easyshare DX7440DCResource have reviewed the Kodak Easyshare DX7440, a 4-megapixel digital camera with a 4x (33 - 132 mm equivalent) optical zoom lens. The camera is available now for a suggested retail price of US$349.

“There’s a lot to like about the Kodak EasyShare DX7440—heck, I even bought one for my mom. It’s easy-to-use, very responsive, full-featured, and expandable to boot. The biggest weakness is on the camera is the image quality—photos were “muddier” that I like to see, especially on things with fine detail like grass or trees. Don’t let this scare you off, though. For people like mom who print at 4 x 6 inches or downsize for e-mailing, these are non-issues. “Pixel inspectors” who view the images on-screen at 100%, or those who print larger than 8 x 10 should probably try another camera. The DX7440’s photos have vibrant color (perhaps too much so) and very little redeye, and I can attest that they look great when printed.”

Pentax OptioMX4Pocket-Lint have reviewed the Pentax OptioMX4, which is a cross between a digital camera and a camcorder.

“In tests we were fairly happy with the performance of the camera both still and moving however, at times it did have problems focusing quick enough on the subject. Additionally the white balance response was also a bit shaky at times, blanching out the image while the camera?s mechanism tried to catch up.

Image quality for picture was on the whole good, although colours on the test shots we took dull in colour.”

Casio EXILIM Card EX-Z50CNET have just reviewed the new slimline 5 megapixel Casio EXILIM Card EX-Z55 digital camera.

“The centerpiece of the Z55’s design is its 2.5-inch LCD screen, which takes up most of the small camera’s back and, thus, seems even bigger. Also contributing to this effect is the Z55’s comically small and essentially useless optical viewfinder, which works only passably well during daylight and will temporarily blind you at night if you try it with the LCD turned on. Casio crams all of the buttons on the 5.6-ounce Exilim Z55 to the right of Screenzilla but organizes them logically despite their cramped layout.”
