DigiCamReview have reviewed the Canon SX100 IS, the first camera in the new SX series, offering a 10x zoom, image stabilized lens and 8 megapixel resolution.
“Image quality is very good - with excellent colour, with high levels of saturation, contrast and detail. The only image problems were higher than average noise when the ISO setting is raised above ISO200, and higher than average purple fringing. There was also some red eye in group photos, but overall red-eye was generally quite low. The camera did a good job focusing even in low light thanks to the focus assist lamp, and had a high success rate due to the built in optical image stabilisation. There was some noticable vignetting (darkened corners) when the zoom was fully extended, but normally there was no vignetting, nor did I notice barrel or pincushion distortion.”

“If you are looking for a standard snapper and can find the Nikon Coolpix P50 on the cheap, then you might be onto something. But the market is always moving fast, not least from the recent arrival of the new ‘big brother’ Nikon Coolpix P60.”

CNET have reviewed the Olympus SP-560 UZ, the successor to the SP-550 UZ, which adds Face Detection and a new 8 megapixel sensor.
“Unfortunately, the SP-560UZ’s biggest feature is also one of its greatest weaknesses. While its lens is long and wide, it simply isn’t very sharp. Regardless of the lens position and focus, pictures taken on the SP-560UZ generally look soft. Fine details, like text focused upon from a great distance, can appear fuzzy regardless of focus, shutter speed, or ISO sensitivity. Beyond the softness, significant noise further hurts the camera’s pictures. Notable grain appears at ISO 200, and gets significantly worse as sensitivity gets higher. At ISO 400 and higher, noise consumes fine details, rendering textures muddled.”

TrustedReviews have reviewed the Fujifilm S5800, an 8 megapixel digital camera with a 10x, 38mm to 380mm zoom lens.
“Like the S5700 before it, the FinePix S5800 offers more photographic control than anything else at the price. Excellent ergonomics, good build quality and good performance belie its low cost. It would make an ideal camera for anyone on a tight budget who wants to learn more about creative photography. The lack of image stabilisation is a disadvantage, but not a crippling one, however it’s definitely not worth binning your S5700 to upgrade.”

TrustedReviews have reviewed the new Casio EX-S10, the world’s smallest and thinnest 10.1 megapixel digital camera.
“With such a wide ISO range, the camera suffers from about ISO 800, when noise starts to get really noticeable. At ISO 1600 it really is problematic with blotchy green and blue speckles invading the images. Exposures are pretty reasonable on the whole, though the camera struggled with pure white subjects, and exposure compensation should be used for best results. Impressively the wide dynamic range function works well, with some tricky shots coming up trumps. Colour too is generally good and accurate across a broad range of lighting conditions.”

PhotoReview have reviewed the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ15, a 9 megapixel update of Panasonic’s best-selling camera ever, the TZ3.
“Panasonic’s new 9.1-megapixel DMC-TZ15 digicam is the latest in its ‘Travellers’ Zoom’ series of cameras. Replacing the 7.2-megapixel TZ3, it introduces a swag of new features that will appeal to point-and-shoot photographers who want a slim camera with a long zoom lens. The TZ15’s body is marginally smaller and lighter than its predecessor but just as pocketable and equally well-built.”

Imaging Resource have reviewed the Nikon L15 camera, which features an 8 megapixel sensor, 3x zoom lens (35-105mm) and a 2.8 inch LCD screen.
“Overall, the Nikon Coolpix L15 performed well in terms of exposure and color accuracy outdoors. However, detail definition and noise performance were disappointing when the camera needed to raise the ISO setting. Under brighter conditions, the Nikon L15 captured much better detail. You’ll get the best results when shooting in good lighting, but expect higher noise and noise suppression when shooting at lower light levels without the flash.”

CNET have reviewed the Panasonic Lumix DMC-LS80, a new entry-level 8 megapixel digital camera.
“The Panasonic Lumix DMC-LS80 distinguishes itself as one of the least expensive cameras available with an optical image stabilization system. Unfortunately, while that feature is handy, it simply can’t make up for the camera’s sluggish performance and poor picture quality. If you’re looking for an affordable budget camera, forego the LS80’s image stabilization and instead look to the Canon PowerShot A470. It doesn’t include optical or mechanical image stabilization, but it shoots faster and produces much nicer-looking photos.”

Imaging Resource have reviewed the Nikon S700, a 12.1 megapixel camera with a 3x zoom lens and a metal body.
“Overall, the Nikon Coolpix S700 is a good bet. It captures good-looking images under a variety of conditions, performing well indoors and out. The camera’s exposure system was a bit limited in low lighting in its normal Auto exposure mode, but the night photography options and adjustable ISO should help in darker situations. Granted, higher ISOs do translate into higher noise levels, something the Nikon S700 struggles with at sensitivities higher than ISO 400, but that’s a common trade-off among consumer pocket digital cameras with automatic-only exposure control.”

PhotoReview have reviewed the Sigma DP1 compact camera, which packs the full specification of a DSLR into the body of a compact camera.
“As a pioneer in a technically challenging arena, Sigma has done a great job with this camera by packing so much into such a small body. In the DP-1 it has produced a fascinating imaging tool that has potential to develop a cult following. Although it’s not the ideal solution to a serious photographer’s compact camera requirements, the DP-1 is a great start - and a credit to its manufacturer.”

Trusted Reviews have reviewed the Canon Digital IXUS 960 IS, which features a 12.1 megapixel sensor and 3.7x image stabilized zoom lens.
“Canon’s IXUS range of high-spec compacts continues to set the standard for the rest of the industry. The 960 IS has pretty much everything you need except a wide-angle lens. It is relatively expensive, but with superb design and bomb-proof build quality, exceptional performance and class-leading image quality you really do get what you pay for. The 960 IS is easily the best 12MP compact on the market, and a sound investment for anyone who can afford it.”

DPReview have reviewed the new Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T300 digital camera, which features a 3.5 inch touch-screen LCD and 5x optical zoom lens.
“In pure image quality terms, the T300 is a little bit disappointing and looks ominously like the herald of a season of disappointing cameras. 6.2 x 4.6 mm expanses of silicon do not appear to like being divided into 10 million segments - which is unfortunate, as that exact combination appears in a lot of recently announced models from a lot of manufacturers.”

TrustedReviews have reviewed the Sony DSC-T2, a compact camera with 4GB of internal memory that can store up to 1,000 8 megapixel images.
“The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T2 is an extremely stylish ultra-compact camera with a range of interesting and innovative features. If you can cope with the rather fiddly touch-screen interface and keep your fingers away from the lens, you’ll find it an excellent camera for social snapshots, and the creative playback features are a lot of fun. However it is quite expensive, the the overall image quality doesn’t live up to the price tag.”

“To cut a long story short; let the images speak for themselves. Casio have given the Exilim Pro F1 its very own identity and are placing a remarkable and striking product on the market with this new prosumer digital camera. Luminous Landscape have reviewed the Ricoh GX100 digital camera, which features a 10.01 megapixel CCD, fast 24-72mm wide zoom lens and a removable electronic view?nder.
“Unlike 98% of digicams the GX100 provides raw mode. And, to make it all the more sweet, it’s DNG. To my knowledge only Panasonic in its LX series, Canon in the G9, and Sigma in the upcoming DP1 also provide digicam photographers with raw. Regrettably the GX100 is slow to write raw files, and while at 5 seconds it’s faster than the almost 15 seconds of previous models, it’s still not good enough. Ricoh simply needs to build in a larger raw buffer or faster write engine. There’s no excuse for this, especially at this price point. “

Imaging Resource have reviewed the Fujifilm Finepix F50fd compact digicam, which has a 12 megapixel sensor, Dual Image Stabilization, and Face Detection 2.0 technology with a a new Automatic Red-Eye Removal feature.
“The Fujifilm F50fd’s hike in resolution yields sharp images with lots of detail, but it does come at a cost. Unlike previous models in the line, noise permeates images shot at ISO 400 and gets significantly worse as the ISO is pushed to 800 and beyond. Captured images also show evidence of noise suppression and slight edge enhancement throughout the most of the sensitivity range.”

Imaging Resource have reviewed the new Nikon L14 camera which offers 7.1 megapixels and a 3x zoom lens (38-114mm).
“The big feature of the Coolpix L14 is its low price but Nikon didn’t scrimp on performance, delivering above average shutter lag and startup/shutdown times. It’s also an unusually comfortable camera body to hold and pocket. What the lens lacks in sharpness, the sensor captures in color fidelity. Digital zoom is sluggish but the results won’t disappoint and greatly extend the range of the 3x optical zoom. This is not what you want if you’re looking for crisp images that you can enlarge and frame, but it serves well as an inexpensive and fun snapshot camera.”
