Panasonic DMC-FZ18DPReview have reviewed the Panasonic DMC-FZ18 digital camera, which features a 18x optical zoom lens, equivalent to 28-504mm on a 35mm film camera.

“In summary the the FZ18 is a well built, well designed and very versatile photographic tool that offers an awful lot in a compact and easy to use package, and one that’s ideal for anyone not quite ready to commit to a bulky and expensive SLR outfit. The sensor performance struggles to live up to the rest of the package, but we say this so often it’s beginning to sound like a broken record.”

Sony T200PhotoReview have reviewed the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T200, the first digital camera to automatically react to a person’s smile.

“We’ve covered the problem we had with the Smile Shutter setting, which links shutter triggering to detection of a smiling face, in the review of the T70, which was posted on the Photo Review website recently. This feature is more of a gimmick that a real benefit because smiles vary from one person to another, making it difficult to set the right detection level. Things get complicated with group shots because one person smiling can trigger the shutter before the others are ready.”

Panasonic DMC-FX55CameraLabs have reviewed the 8 megapixel Panasonic DMC-FX33 digital camera, which offers a 28mm wide-angle LEICA DC lens (28-100mm), 2.5 inch monitor, optical image stabiliser, face detection and Intelligent Auto mode.

“The extra Megapixel doesn’t make much difference and the boosted 6400 ISO is operating in a fantasy land. But the inclusion of face detection is worth having while Panasonic’s Intelligent Auto mode really does an uncanny job of knowing what you’re trying to photograph. Together they make the FX33 – along with Panasonic’s other July 2007 launches – a joy to use in automatic.”

Fujifilm Finepix F50fdPopPhoto have reviewed the Fujifilm Finepix F50fd compact digicam, which has a 12 megapixel sensor, Dual Image Stabilization, and Face Detection 2.0 technology with a a new Automatic Red-Eye Removal feature.

“You’ve got to give FujiFilm credit for trying, but these lab numbers don’t live up the legacy of the F30. ISO 100 images look fantastic, ISO 200 and 400 images look very good, but at ISO 800, you’ll start to notice noisy shadows and soggy edges. This wasn’t the case with the F30. In fact, the F30 performed significantly better at ISO 3200 than the F50fd (both of which capture at 6 megapixels at this ISO), which is disappointing.”

Kodak V1003Imaging Resource have reviewed the Kodak V1003 camera, which offers 10 megapixels, 2.5 inch LCD screen, 3x optical zoom lens and up to ISO 1600.

“Despite the attractiveness of the Kodak EasyShare V1003, I was disappointed in its performance. It was hard to read the LCD and “catch the moment” with this camera. Focus was very slow and shutter lag really got in the way. It got even worse when I added flash to the equation. When I looked over the images, they were far too saturated with too much contrast in sunlight.”

Pentax S10TrustedReviews have reviewed the Pentax Optio S10, which is a 10 megapixel camera with digital Shake Reduction, Face Recognition and DivX video format.

“Fortunately the improvement in performance has been accompanied by an increase in overall picture quality, thanks in no small part to the excellent lens. Pentax has always enjyed a good reputation for the quality of its optics, and the SMC (Super Multi Coated) Pentax label is usually a guarantee of superior performance. This is certainly the case here, with the S10’s lens producing excellent edge-to-edge sharpness and minimal barrel distortion at wide angle, both things that have been an issue on some versions of the Sliding Lens system.”

Samsung L700Imaging Resource have reviewed the Samsung L700 camera, which offers several advanced features, including a suite of advanced video and editing functions, in a compact, stylish metal body. It has 7 megapixels, 3x optical zoom and a bright 2.5” LCD display.

“If pricing and simplicity are your main goals in a camera and you don’t do a lot of low-light shooting, the Samsung L700 could fit the bill. For quick daytime snapshots that aren’t likely to be printed to large sizes, the results are generally quite acceptable. If you’re looking to exercise much control over the final look of your images, or image quality is paramount in your decision however, then the Samsung L700 probably isn’t the camera for you.”

Kodak M853DCResource have reviewed the new Kodak M853 camera which has an 8 megapixel sensor and 3x optical zoom lens.

“The Kodak EasyShare M853 is an entry-level camera that is mediocre (or worse) in almost all areas. While it does offer a simple interface, good battery life, and attractive software bundle, its poor photo quality miserable low light shooting ability make this a camera that I cannot recommend. Canon SX100 ISDigitalCameraInfo have reviewed the new Canon SX100, the first camera in the new SX series, offering a 10x zoom, image stabilized lens and 8 megapixel resolution.

“At an introductory price of $299, the Canon PowerShot SX100 IS is a strong contender in the 10x optical zoom market. When compared to the entire point-and-shoot market, the PowerShot SX100 is a bit on the expensive side, since some cameras can be found for around $100. On the other hand, when compared to other 10x cameras with optical image stabilization, the SX100 IS is a bargain. Most other cameras in this class are priced at $350 or more. With solid image performance and face detection, the Canon SX100 IS is an admirable choice.”

Casio EX-Z77CNET have reviewed the 7.2 megapixel Casio EX-Z77 camera, which features a special YouTube mode that saves movies at the optimum size, quality and other settings.

“While noise stays pleasantly low in the EX-Z77’s pictures, a general softness obscures details that should otherwise look sharp. Pictures taken under incandescent light tend to come out slightly warm even under the tungsten white balance, though the camera’s manual white balance can help you overcome this problem. The camera’s shots work well enough for e-mails and small prints, but any bigger print will likely disappoint.”

Canon Digital IXUS 850 ISPhotoReview have reviewed the Canon Digital IXUS 860 IS, an 8 megapixel camera which offers a 28mm 3.8x wide-angle zoom lens with optical Image Stabilizer.

“Low-light performance was very good for long exposures between ISO 80 and 400, when traces of image noise became visible. With this setting – and at ISO 800 – noise would be unlikely to interfere with print quality at enlargements up to A4 size. At ISO 1600, image noise was very obvious in night shots and most fine detail was lost. Blocked-up shadows were also apparent at this setting.”

Canon S5 ISImaging Resource have reviewed the new Canon S5 IS ultra-zoom compact camera, which features a 12x optical zoom lens equivalent to 36-432mm, optical image stabilizer and 8 megapixel sensor.

“The Canon S5 IS has all the components to attract both experienced shooters who want control over their images and novices who want to hone their digital photography skills, most notably a well-rounded, advanced feature set with a respectable number of bells and whistles, a long zoom, and effective optical image stabilization. The Canon S5 IS is one of the better megazooms on the market, but image quality issues may take it down a notch.”

Olympus FE-300Steves Digicams have reviewed the Olympus FE-300, a new 12 megapixel entry-level camera with a 3x optical zoom lens, large 6.4cm LCD screen and Face Detection technology.

“The image quality was right in line with the rest of the FE series cameras. It produced good color saturation and had well exposed images. The images are a little fuzzy on the outsides of the picture, but clear in the middle. With a 12-megapixel image sensor, this should still produce good looking images in smaller prints (8x10 and under). When shooting with the Digital Image Stabilization mode, there was noticeably more noise than without due to the camera increasing the ISO settings to eliminate blur from camera shake. Other ways to make up for the camera shake are to use a flash if possible or use a tripod or monopod to help steady the camera.”

Canon SX100 ISPhotoReview have reviewed the new Canon SX100, the first camera in the new SX series, offering a 10x zoom, image stabilized lens and 8 megapixel resolution.

“Pictures taken with the test camera were sharp but rather contrasty. Exposures were pitched to record highlight detail, leaving shadows to block up. Autofocusing was fast and accurate in bright conditions – and almost as good in low light. The image stabilisation system proved effective in dim lighting; we estimate it provided a 2-3 stop advantage at long zoom settings.”

Ricoh R7TrustedReviews have reviewed the new Ricoh Caplio R7 digital camera, which offers 8.1 megapixels and a 7.1x wide zoom lens (28-200mm).

“With the higher resolution sensor and new processing engine, image quality is also improved over the already impressive R6. The 256-segment metering provides very accurate exposures, although where it reached the limits of its dynamic range I found it tended to burn out highlights in order to keep shadow detail. Default colour rendition is also a little more highly saturated than is usually the case, but a quick adjustment in the menu provided a more naturalistic tone.”
