Pentax K100D DSLRTrustedReviews have just reviewed the new 6.1 megapixel Pentax K100D DSLR camera.

“I’ve tested the Pentax system extensively, and I found its performance was generally about the same as the Sony. It usually allowed shake-free shooting at least two stops below the safe speed, but would sometimes allow a shake-free shot as much as four stops slower, while occasionally shots just one stop slower would show slight motion blurring. The trick is, I think, to take several shots if you’re not sure. The chances are that at least one will be shake free.”

Pentax K10DDPReview have reviewed the Pentax K10D, which offers 10.2 megapixels, shake-reduction, dust removal system, 22-bit colour, three new shooting modes, 2.5 inch LCD screen and 11 point auto-focusing.

“When we reviewed the K100D we thought Pentax had got their image processing just right, however the single element of the entire K10D equation which left us scratching our heads was just that. Either a poorly implemented demosaicing algorithm or a strange choice of sharpening parameters means that while the K10D’s JPEG images have plenty of ‘texture’ they can lack the edge sharpness we’re used to seeing from semi-pro digital SLR’s.”

Pentax K100D DSLRDigiCamReview have just reviewed the new 6.1 megapixel Pentax K100D DSLR camera.

“The Pentax K100D has very low noise in the test photos taken at ISO200 to ISO800. Noise is low at ISO1600, and acceptable at ISO3200. Noise is lower than the Olympus E-400, and lower than the Fujifilm FinePix F30. You’ll also notice that whilst the F30 displays quite low noise, the K100D’s edges are much smoother than the F30’s, most likely due to the high levels of image processing applied to the F30 images. The camera has excellent abilities, however choosing the highest ISO settings will sacrifice some final image quality. At the other end of the spectrum, it should be obvious that nothing has been sacrificed in terms of quality by not providing an ISO100 mode.”

Panasonic DMC-L1DIWA member LetsGoDigital have published their review of the new Panasonic DMC-L1 DSLR camera.

“Although I had my doubts about the use of Live View, I find Panasonic’s approach increasingly appealing. It is the use of Live View when setting the white balance in particular that I consider to be a true gem. It is exactly as one would like it to be. It clearly shows what will happen, and even enables you to capture a decent photo in advance. Everything that has to be done afterwards always takes more time, and sometimes even affects the actual quality, especially when photographing in JPEG. A pity, however, that the histogram cannot be consulted when setting an exposure correction in Live View. That would truly make things perfect.”

“One can’t really get the measure of a complex camera like the Pentax 10D after just a week of use and a few hundred frames. But, it didn’t take me long to discover that this is a camera that the sophisticated user will find to be a pleasure to work with. Image quality is on a par with virtually anything else on the market, the camera is very feature rich, the price is right, and it therefore isn’t a stretch to say that the K10D is probably the best value in a 10 Megapixel DSLR at this time.”

Nikon D80DigitalCameraInfo have just reviewed the new 10 megapixel Nikon D80 DSLR camera.

“The Nikon D80 is a well-built, easy-to-operate 10-megapixel DSLR with good image quality, good auto focus and features for both experienced photographers and snapshooters. The D80 is slower than the Nikon D200, and its controls are less convenient, but the D80 beats the more expensive camera in some measures of image quality. Though there are cameras with more features and very good image quality available for less, it’s clear why the D80 costs what it does: it’s better-built, it has better auto focus, and better controls. It may not be a bargain, but its price is justified.”

“In the hands, the camera feels satisfyingly solid. The concave lip/grip below the K10D logo is a great little consideration for times when it’s necessary to hold the camera with the left hand. For those unfamiliar with the floating sensor stabilization design, it can be a bit unsettling to hear the sensor rattle around when the camera is off, but you’ll get over it when you see the image results, especially at slow shutter speeds in low light.”

Sony A100Megapixel.net have just reviewed the 10.2 megapixel Sony A100 DSLR camera.

“With an attractive price, the 10-megapixel Alpha 100 is deserving of the attention it has received. Purchased as a kit with one or two lenses, the Alpha is immediately useable, and will produce high quality photos at all but the widest angle of the 18 - 70 mm lens. Moreover, with its numerous advanced features and full compatibility with a wide number of Minolta A mount lenses in addition to the upcoming Carl Zeiss designed Sony lenses, the Alpha 100 should prove to be one of the most popular entry-level DSLR cameras.”

Sony A100Steves Digicams have just reviewed the 10.2 megapixel Sony A100 DSLR camera.

“The A100’s ergonomics were excellent. The grip was comfortably sized, and the camera controls were well-placed, not getting in the way during shooting yet easily accessible when needed. The A100 marks the return of the Function dial, providing access to the camera’s metering, flash, focus, ISO, White Balance, Dynamic Range and color/DEC controls - simply turn the dial and hit the Fn button at its center for direct access to the control of your choice without wading through a menu system to find it. “ISO setting go from 100-1600 and the camera has a noise reduction setting that will operate at all speeds. Although it does make some slight difference at high ISOs, the job can be far better done in dedicated software packages. Files taken at speeds up to ISO800 are quite usable anyway, and the ability to select sensitivity speeds in increments of half or third stops gives great leeway.”

Nikon D80ThinkCamera have just reviewed the new 10 megapixel Nikon D80 DSLR camera.

“The first thing I noticed about the Nikon D80 was the size. It fits nicely into my hands and all the buttons and wheels are easily accessible. It has a lovely balanced feel to it and although it’s heavier than my other cameras it’s not so heavy that it gives you neck ache. I bought mine body only as I’d bought a lens second hand but it’s the same lens as comes in the kit and that’s the Nikkor 18 to 70mm lens.”

Olympus E-400ePhotoZine have just reviewed the Olympus E-400, the world’s smallest and lightest DSLR camera.

“For such a light camera (375g body), the E-400 feels reassuringly solid, though the very smallness does mean that there is little in the way of a hand grip on the right side. Somewhat annoyingly, the hook for the neckstrap is mounted right on the corner where you hand wraps round. The control buttons are all small but easy to use and the on/off switch and control dial both feel solid. The dual card formats of xD and CF are easy enough to insert and retract from their side mounted compartment while the menu system itself is thankfully – given some of Olympus’’ previous versions – straightforward and easy to navigate.”

Nikon D40DCResource have published their review of the new Nikon D40 entry level DSLR camera.

“Overall, the D40 took excellent quality photos, which is just what you’d expect from a digital SLR. Exposure was usually spot-on, though the camera blew out the highlights in two sample photos—I think this is a metering issue. Colors were very saturated—Nikon definitely tuned this camera toward the consumer audience. Sharpness was just right: not too sharp, not too soft. As you saw in the previous example, noise levels are very low through ISO 800. The one real negative here is purple fringing: the kit lens produces quite a bit of it. One way to reduce this annoyance is to close down the aperture a bit (use a higher F-number).”

Pentax K100D DSLRDPReview have just reviewed the new 6.1 megapixel Pentax K100D DSLR camera.

“Not only has Pentax improved in-camera image processing but they appear to have overtaken some of the competition, the amount of detail delivered is about as much as we could expect to see from a six megapixel CCD. On top of this they’ve also taken the sensible compromise of using a minimal amount of noise reduction and not turning down sharpening at higher sensitivities which means you get almost as much detail at ISO 1600 as you would at ISO 200.”

Panasonic DMC-L1PopPhoto have published their review of the new Panasonic DMC-L1 DSLR camera.

“We wish the L1 were available for purchase without the Leica lens, since there are many lower-cost lens alternatives available from both Olympus and Sigma that would bring this camera’s initial price down considerably. Indeed, sticker shock may be the L1’s biggest drawback and will have many budget-minded DSLR shoppers wondering why they should pay almost two grand for a 7.5MP camera when the Olympus Evolt E-330 costs under $1,000 with the Zuiko 14-45mm f/3.5-4.5 lens (albeit without built-in image stabilization).”

Sony A100DigitalCameraInfo have just reviewed the 10.2 megapixel Sony A100 DSLR camera.

“Our final take on the D-R system is this: it’s a very good convenience feature, because it allows users to reap one advantage of shooting RAW, without having to shoot RAW. It’s not equivalent to the extended dynamic range available from cameras like the Fujifilm FinePix S3 or S5, however. Those cameras deliver more realistic dynamic range in their expanded modes, and the Sony alpha A100 does not.”
