Sony has just announced a new waterproof digital camcorder - the Sony Handycam GW55VE -, which features an Exmor R CMOS sensor and captures Full HD video at 50 frames per second. Dust resistant, waterproof to depths of 5m and shockproof to 1.5m, the Sony Handycam GW55VE comes with 10x optical zoom, 29.8mm equivalent wide angle and Optical SteadyShot image stabilisation technology. The new Handycam GW55VE waterproof camcorder from Sony is available in the UK from mid-May 2012.

The Rollei Movieline Live 100 WiFi is a Full HD pocket camcorder with an articulated screen and Wi-Fi connectivity. Equipped with a five-megapixel 1/3.2” sensor and a 4.3mm f/2.8 lens, the Rollei Movieline Live 100 WiFi features automated time-lapse recording, automatic shadow brightening and face recognition technologies, and weighs in at only 105 grams. Offering 125MB of internal memory as well as a microSD card slot, the Rollei Movieline Live 100 WiFi is available in black, white and red for €149.90.

Swann has unveiled its latest digital video cameras – the HD PenCam and PenCam 4GB. Each device conceals a miniature video camera and DVR inside a real working pen. The HD PenCam ($99.99) is capable of recording high-definition AVI videos (1280x720 pixels) and high-resolution JPEG images on microSD memory cards, while the PenCam 4G ($69.99) shoots VGA movies and 1.2-megapixel stills and saves them in its built-in memory. Both versions switch between video and photo mode with a touch of a button, feature date and time stamping, and are compatible with PCs and Macs.

Rollei has announced three new Bullet HD action camcorders. The Rollei Bullet HD Pro (€199.95) is a Full HD device in a waterproof black aluminium housing boasting a 170-degree fisheye lens and the capability to take stills at an (interpolated) resolution of 20 megapixels. The Rollei Bullet HD 2 (€149.95) is a 720p HD camcorder that’s also shock- and waterproof, and comes with a similar lens and a 12-megapixel sensor. Finally, the Rollei Bullet HD Lite 2 (€99.95) is an HD camcorder with a 135-degree ultra-wideangle lens and a 5-megapixel sensor. Each new Rollei Bullet HD model ships with a travel case and a comprehensive accessory pack, and each is compatible with the optional (€69.95) Rollei Bullet Remote kit. Availability is slated for April.

Swann today introduced its first Full HD wearable video camera: Swann Freestyle HD. Housed in a sturdy case that is waterproof to 20 metres, Swann Freestyle HD can be worn on the body or mounted to bikes, cars, helmets, skateboards and more via a range of included interchangeable mounts and brackets. In addition to their Android camera, Polaroid actually have some interesting products on their large CES booth (cunningly located right next to Canon). There are not one but two 3D cameras, a waterproof dual-view model (iT023), a wi-fi camera (iS030), the Z340 Instant Zink camera, and the Dua flash that has a built-in movie light for shooting video as well as stills.

The JVC GY-HMQ10 is billed as the world’s first hand-held 4K camcorder, which records 24p/50p/60p video at a resolution of 3840x2160 pixels. JVC’s exclusive Falconbrid LSI processing takes raw image data from the device’s 8.3-megapixel CMOS sensor and demosaics it in real time, meaning that it can output 4K footage to a monitor or projection system with virtually no latency.  This capability opens up applications in cinematography, medical microscopy, telepresence, specialized observation / surveillance, and live wide-view event coverage, the company says. Using MPEG-4 technology and a variable bit rate H.264 codec operating at up to 144 Mbps, the GY-HMQ10 records up to two hours of 4K video to SDHC or SDXC memory cards. Available from March, the JVC GY-HMQ10 carries an MSRP of $4,995.

It’s all about Wi-Fi for Samsung cameras at CES, with four new models - the WB850F, WB150F, ST200F, and DV300F -  sporting the “F” moniker which denotes wireless connectivity. We were shown a pretty slick demo of the DV300F being controlled remotely by a Samsung smartphone, something that all four models will be capable of out-of-the-box.

In addition to wi-fi, the hero WB850F camera sports a 21x lens, 16 megapixels and GPS tracking, placing it firmly in the advanced travel-zoom catgeory and taking on the likes of the Panasonic DMC-TZ20.

Completing Samsung’s CES lineup are the ST77 and ST66 entry-level compacts and the HMX-W300 all-action camcorder.

Despite their financial woes, Kodak unveiled two interesting products at CES, both of which have sharing at their core.

The M750 Easyshare Wireless is a traditional compact with a 16-megapixel sensor, 5x optical zoom, 3” capacitive touchscreen and built-in Wi-Fi.

The delightfully named Playfull Dual combines a 1080p/60 fps HD video camera with a 12 megapixel BSI CMOS sensor. It also has an external microphone jack, built-in Xenon flash, and Share Button for easy upload to Facebook, YouTube, Kodak Gallery, email and more.

The Sony Bloggie Live pocket camcorder can capture full HD video with stereo sound, 12.8 megapixel stills, and offers live streaming via built-in Wi-Fi capability. The device camera works with any Wi-Fi hotspot including mobile hotspot services from leading wireless carriers, and is able to directly upload content to sites like Facebook, YouTube, and PlayMemories Online, a network service by Sony. For those who want to share right away, Bloggie Live cameras can stream your moments in real-time in collaboration with Qik Video, a mobile video sharing service from Skype. Once live streaming begins, friends and family can view the video instantly on a computer, smartphone or tablet no matter how far away they are. The Bloggie Live camera has 8GB of internal memory, and is available now for approximately $250.

The Sony Bloggie Sport is a tough pocket camcorder that shoots Full HD videos and 5-megapixel stills. Water-, shock- and dustproof, the new Bloggie Sport features four gigabytes of internal memory and a 2.7-inch touch-sensitive screen that can be operated underwater. The camcorder has a built-in USB arm that allows users to easily upload their videos and stills to a computer and charge the device’s built-in battery. Additionally, an HDMI port connects Bloggie Sport to your HDTV for a big-screen view of your photos and videos. The Sony Bloggie Sport will be available from March 2012.

Canon today unveiled its updated entry-level range of Full HD Legria camcorders with the launch of the new Legria HF R38, Legria HF R36 and Legria HF R306. The Canon Legria HF R38 is a Wi-Fi enabled model with MP4 support, 51x “advanced” zoom, a 3” touch-sensitive screen and 32 gigabytes of internal memory in addition to an SDXC memory card slot. The Canon Legria HF R36 is a very similar camcorder except for the size of its built-in memory (8GB). Both models offer intelligent optical image stabilisation, a Smart Auto mode that can recognise up to 38 different scenes and shooting situations, Face Detection, Touch Decoration, and Cinema-look filters. The least expensive model in the line-up, the Canon Legria HF R306, lacks the Wi-Fi connectivity and on-board memory of its higher priced siblings but offers and otherwise identical feature set.

Canon has updated its Legria HF M-series with the addition of the new Legria HF M52 (pictured), Legria HF M56 and Legria HF M506 Full HD AVCHD camcorders. Each one of these models comes equipped with an advanced Canon HD CMOS Pro sensor, a 10x zoom lens with an iris diaphragm, intelligent optical image stabilisation, “instant” AF, audio scene selector, a 3” touchscreen. SDXC support and a range of creative cinematic features. The Canon Legria HF M52 and the Canon Legria HF M56 also feature wireless connectivity and on-board memory (32GB for the HF M52 and 8GB for the HF M56). The Canon Legria HF M506 is a cheaper model that nonetheless has all the major features of its more expensive stable-mates, sans the built-in memory and Wi-Fi.

Concord Keystone has just introduced its Easy Shot Clip HD Diving Kit, a small, 720p HD video camera and underwater housing that’s waterproof down to a depth of 100ft / 30m. The kit also includes a 360? rotating mounting clip, a 4GB microSD Card, a USB cable, and an adjustable wrist strap. The Easy Shot Clip HD Diving Kit can be yours for $129.99.

RED Digital Cinema has officially released the Scarlet-X, a professional-grade hybrid digital stills and video camera that takes interchangeable lenses. Featuring a “Mysterium-X” Super 35 sensor, the Scarlet-X is a relatively compact, modular camera that can record true 4K video at 1-30fps and also allows users to simultaneously capture motion footage and still content. As a stills camera, the Scarlet-X can take 13.8-megapixel photographs with an aspect ratio of 19:10, at frame rates of up to 12fps. The camera comes standard with a Canon EF or PL mount, which can be swapped easily using Scarlet-X’s interchangeable lens mount system. In addition Panavision, Anamorphic, and Nikon lenses are also compatible with the camera. The EF-mount version (pictured, with an aluminium lens mount) will be available for $9,750 (if ordered before 31st December), while the PL variant - featuring a titanium mount - will be $1,500 dearer. Availability is slated for 17th November for the PL-mount model and 1st December for the Canon version.

The Canon EOS C300 is an all-new interchangeable-lens digital video camera equipped with a newly developed Super 35 mm-equivalent 8.29-megapixel CMOS sensor. The sensor reads Full HD video signals for each of the three RGB primary colours, decreasing the incidence of moiré while realising high resolution with 1,000 horizontal TV lines.Supported by a heightened signal read-out speed, the CMOS sensor reduces rolling shutter skews, and employs 4:2:2 colour sampling for high-resolution performance that minimises the appearance of “jaggies” at chroma edges. In addition to frame rates of 59.41i, 50.00i, 29.97P, 25.00P and 23.98P, the EOS C300 features a 24.00p mode, matching the 24 frame-per-second frame rate of traditional motion picture cameras. The Canon EOS C300 comes in two versions, an EF-mount model compatible with Canon’s current line-up of interchangeable EF lenses for EOS single-lens reflex cameras and new EF Cinema Lens line-up (available from January); and the EOS C300 PL Digital Video Camcorder, with a PL lens mount for use with industry-standard PL lenses (slated for a March release). The list price of the EOS C300 - in either mount - is $20,000. UK pricing to be confirmed.

Canon has launched the Cinema EOS System, a new professional digital cinematography system that spans the lens, digital video camcorder and digital SLR camera product categories. The system currently comprises seven new 4K EF Cinema Lenses — four zoom lenses and three single-focal-length models —, an interchangeable-lens digital video camcorder called the Canon EOS C300 and equipped with a Super 35-mm-equivalent CMOS sensor, and a new digital SLR camera currently under development that features a 35 mm full-frame CMOS sensor supporting the recording of 4K video. The Canon EOS C300 will also be available with a PL mount.

Delkin has launched the WingmanHD Waterproof 3-Ounce Action Camera, which is billed as the lightest action camera in the world.
