Sony is exhibiting 4 lenses (FE 24-240mm F3.5-6.3 OSS, FE 28mm F2, Distagon T* FE 35mm F1.4 ZA, FE 90mm F2.8 Macro G OSS) and 2 converters (FE Ultra Wide Converter and FE Fisheye Converter) supporting 35 mm full-frame sensors under development for reference at Photokina. Including these lenses, Sony is introducing its lens development roadmap, which shows that Sony aims to release a total of over twenty α E-mount lenses supporting 35 mm full-frame sensors in 2016.

The ‘Capture One’ RAW converter and image editing software from Phase One has been newly adapted for Sony. ‘Capture One Express (for Sony)’ will be provided at no extra charge to users who purchase an α interchangeable-lens camera or Cyber-shot RX digital still camera.

The Sony Vario-Tessar T* FE 16-35mm F4 ZA OSS is a new full-frame wide-angle zoom for Alpha E-mount cameras. Sony’s latest full-frame ZEISS wide-angle zoom packs serious imaging power into a light, compact addition to the E-mount lens range for α camera users. The Vario-Tessar T* FE 16-35mm F4 ZA OSS goes on general sale in the UK from November 2014, price and availability to be announced.

Sony have announced four new optional accessories for the Sony Alpha-mount camera system. The HVL-F32M Flash (£250) is a slim, light flash unit that attaches to your camera’s Multi Interface Shoe and offers a guide number of 32. The XLR-K2M XLR Adaptor Kit (£514) allows movie makers and videographers can add extra polish to their soundtracks. The RMT-VP1K Remote Commander and IR Receiver Kit (£57) lets photographers enjoy ‘hands-off’ control of cameras functions from a distance. Finally, the LCS-PSC7 Soft Carrying Case (£137) offers generous capacity to hold your camera plus three lenses.

Professional photographers in Europe can benefit from valuable help and extra peace of mind with the launch of Sony Imaging PRO Support. There’s no membership fee for the service, which is offered to professional photographers who own qualifying Sony α camera bodies and lenses.

Panasonic have unveiled the LUMIX CM1 Smart Camera at Photokina. Running Android 4.4, the connected CM1 camera/smartphone features a 20 megapixel 1-inch sensor, 4K video recording, Venus image processing engine, 4.7-inch Full-HD Touch screen with 6,220k dots, manual lens control ring, a fixed 28mm f/2.8 Leica lens, 16GB internal memory and microSD support. Panasonic have announced the development of a 30mm F2.8 macro lens. The Panasonic 30mm f/2.8 Micro Four Thirds lens enables life-size macro photography, offering a close focusing distance of 60mm. It also supports 240 fps high-speed AF, while integrating optical image stabiliser and sports a metallic finish.

Panasonic have announced a firmware update for the GH-4 compact system camera which will enhance the performance and controllability of the camera and feature a new 4K Photo Mode. It encourages users to capture spur-of-the-moment, high resolution, 4K photos by cropping out a designated frame from a 4K video. With the new firmware for GH4, it is easier to get 4K photo by using the dedicated mode. The new firmware program is scheduled to be released in the beginning of October, 2014.

The Canon EOS 7D Mark II is the ultimate DSLR to capture action other cameras simply miss. Completely rebuilt and redesigned, the EOS 7D Mark II features 10fps burst shooting, a new 65-point cross-type AF system, Dual DIGIC 6 processors, new 20.2 MP APS-C CMOS sensor with a native ISO 100-16,000 range (expandable to ISO 51,200), 150k pixel RGB+IR metering sensor and innovative flicker detection, 200,000-cycle shutter durability, pro-level movie features including live, uncompressed HDMI output and Dual Pixel CMOS AF technology, built-in GPS and a digital compass. The Canon EOS 7D Mark II will be available from November for £1,599.99 / €1,999.99 body-only. In the US the EOS 7D Mark II has an estimated retail price of $1,799.00 for the body only and $2,149.00 bundled with an EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM lens.

The Canon PowerShot G7 X is its most powerful, pocketable PowerShot camera to date. The PowerShot G7 X features a 1.0-type back-illuminated 20.2 Megapixel CMOS sensor, f/1.8-2.8, 4.2x lens with 9-blade aperture, refined metal body, DIGIC 6 processor, super-fast AF system with 31 points, 6.5 fps burst shooting, and Wi-Fi and NFC connectivity. The Canon PowerShot G7 X will be available from October 2014 for £579 / €599 / $699.99.

Canon has unveiled three new lenses - the EF 400mm f/4 DO IS II USM, EF 24-105mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM, and the EF-S 24mm f/2.8 STM. Canon’s new compact and lightweight EF 400mm f/4 DO IS II USM super telephoto lens will help lighten the load of professional and advanced amateur photographers. The affordable EF-S 24mm f/2.8 STM lens is the slimmest and lightest Canon EF-S lens ever produced.

The EF 400mm f/4 DO IS II USM and EF-S 24mm f/2.8 STM are both scheduled to be available in November for estimated retail prices of $6,899.00 / £6,999.99 / €8,799.99 and $149.99/ £179.99 / €224.99 respectively. The EF 24-105mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM is scheduled to be available in December for an estimated retail price of $599.99 / £479.99 / €599.99.

The Canon PowerShot SX60 HS and PowerShot N2 are two new compact cameras. The PowerShot SX60 HS camera features a 65x Optical Zoom lens and amazingly broad focal length range equivalent to 21mm -1365mm, while the PowerShot N2 camera has a compact and unique, stylish design with a selfie-ready, flip-up touch panel LCD screen. The Canon PowerShot SX60 HS digital camera is scheduled to be available in October 2014 for estimated retail price of $549.99 / £449.99 / €569.99. The Canon PowerShot N2 digital camera is scheduled to be available in December 2014 with a choice of black and white body colors for an estimated retail price of $299.99 (only available in the USA).

The Canon Cross Media Station is also previewing at Photokina. This is an upcoming product which encompasses Canon’s vision for a connected future. With built in storage and internet access, and the ability to transfer photos via NFC, your images will be always be immediately available.

The Panasonic Lumix GM5 is the World’s smallest interchangeable lens camera with a Live View Finder.
