Lior SchejterThe 31st PhotographyBLOG Portfolio has been submitted by Lior Schejter.

“My name is Lior Schejter. I’m a photography hobbist. I usually take pictures on trips I make around the world and in Israel, where I live.

The photos are all from a trip to Ireland I made about a year ago. Most of them are scenery photos, trying to capture the awe of seeing it first hand.

These photographs were taken using a Minolta 505si and a Fuji Finepix 602z.”

Alberto TurielThe 30th PhotographyBLOG Portfolio has been submitted by Alberto Turiel.

“Looking at “Salvador Moreno” August 6th, portfolio I’m remember my photo series about “Semana Santa”. This time is located on Valladolid, a city in the north-center of Spain. My personal view is slightly diferent of the typical photo of Valladolid Semana Santa, more focused on the historical “wood sculptures” that were carried by the “cofrades” along all the city.”

Olympus Camedia C-5060 ZoomFirst announced in September last year, the 5 megapixel C-5060 Zoom is currently the second most advanced compact camera in the Olympus lineup, behind the 8 megapixel C-8080 Zoom. Probably it’s main attraction is the 27-110mm lens, which opens up wide-angle photography again in a marketplace dominated by cameras with lenses that start at 35mm. The C-5060 Zoom is heavily based on the older C-5050 Zoom, but Olympus have added a number of improvements, including that wide-angle lens, a swivelling LCD screen and faster start-up and shutter-lag times. With the Photokina 2004 show approaching and a shelf-life of one year, can the C-5060 Zoom still cut it in the fast-moving world of digital cameras? Read on to find out.

Pro Gear DuoThe Pro Gear range of memory card readers from the US-based Atech Flash Technology offer transfer rates of up to 480 Mb/sec via a USB 2.0 connection and support 10 different memory card formats. The Pro Gear Duo consists of two devices; a docking bay that fits into the 3.5” drive bay of your computer, and the cartridge-like PRO Gear USB 2.0 flash media reader, which you can either insert into the docking bay or attach to your computer using a USB cable. Unfortunately my PC doesn’t have a spare drive bay, so this is really a review of the flash media reader (which is also available to purchase separately as the Pro Gear Solo). So is the Pro Gear worth upgrading to? Find out in my short review.

Steven MansourThe 29th PhotographyBLOG Portfolio has been submitted by Tom Hall.

“This is a collection out of my vast library of varied topics. Most of them were taken over the last year and all are taken with my Canon 300D. I have a minolta maxxum 7 and am thinking of purchasing the new Canon 20D to get a bit more functionality and a more rugged camera. I work as a self-employed infosecurity consultant and this year I have started making some money on the side by freelancing as a photographer. A number of photographs have been published by two Dutch newspapers, I had my first small exibiton and just started working together with a number of companies in the graphical/ marketing field. My favourite “targets” are urban life and architecture, nature, sports and outdoors activities, but that doesn’t necessarily mean I hide from other topics. I want to keep on evolving and like to experiment. Experimental photography is therefore a huge driving force behind my work. A good example for this experimental work are the laundrymachine photos you see when you visit the website. These were shot during a laundrysession in Manhattan, New York and are part of a larger serie called One and a half hours in the life of a washing machine.”

Fuji Finepix F420 ZoomThe FujiFilm FinePix F420 is by far the smallest camera that I have ever reviewed, measuring just 7.7cm wide and 6.9 cm high. Despite its diminutive stature, Fuji have still managed to fit in a 1.8 inch LCD screen on the rear of the camera and their 4th Generation Super CCD HR sensor inside it, which can realise 3 million effective pixels, producing 6 million recorded pixels. The FinePix F420 has a 3x optical zoom lens, equivalent to 36-108mm on a 35mm camera, which is housed inside a stylish brushed aluminum body. A stand-out feature is the ability to record movies at 30 frames per second, a frame-rate that should ensure silky-smooth movie clips. So does all of this add up to a great pocketable camera? Read my review to find out the answer.

Close-Up Photography“Close-Up Photography” is one of four books in the Digital Photography Expert range, all written by professional photographer Michael Freeman and published by Ilex. As the name suggests, this particular book concentrates on the world of close-up, still-life and macro photography from a digital point of view. The book is aimed at the photographer who wants to learn as much as possible about the theory, techniques and beauty of the close-up world. There are 160 pages brimming with 400 full colour photographs, lots of technical tips and real-life case studies to help illustrate the author’s points. It’s certainly a very well-presented book that belies its £17.95 price-tag, but will the advice inside actually help to improve your photography skills? Read my short review to find out.
