The Epson Stylus Photo R2880 is a new professional A3+ photo printer. The new 8-ink R2880 printer uses advanced UltraChrome K3 with Vivid Magenta pigment inks and a refined look-up table to more accurately match colours. The Epson R2880 is able to achieve 85 percent of Pantone gamut using only eight ink cartridges. “The Stylus Photo R2880 replaces the iconic Stylus Photo R2400. It represents the pinnacle in photo printing for professionals and enthusiasts that require the superior image quality of Epson’s large format printers but with a smaller footprint to print smaller production runs.” commented Mark Robinson, Senior Product Manager at Epson. Epson’s new SX400 and SX200 all-in-one printers offer cost-effective printer, scanner and copier functionality in a stylish and compact unit. Both the SX400 and SX200 feature individual ink cartridges for cost-efficient printing, and use use Epson’s pigment-based DURABrite Ultra Ink for prints that can last up to 200 years when stored in a photo album. The Epson SX400 additionally includes a 6.3cm crystal-clear LCD viewer. The Epson SX400 costs £119.99 and the Epson SX200 £79.99, both available in June 2008.

The new Canon SELPHY CP770 and SELPHY CP760 compact photo printers offer a combination of lab-quality photo printing and ease of operation. The Canon CP770 features an integrated storage case, carry handle and optional battery pack. The ultra-compact Canon CP760 offers a large LCD screen and improved user interface. Both the SELPHY CP770 and SELPHY CP760 print to a variety of different-sized media – including standard print sizes, credit-card size papers and miniature stickers – in as little as 52 seconds. Prices are £89 / $99.99 for the CP760, available end of May, and £139 / $149.99 for the CP770, available end of June.

The Kodak ESP 5 is a small and sleek all-in-one printer featuring a large 3 inch colour LCD display. The ESP 5 has memory card and USB slots to allow users to view, edit and print with or without a computer. It uses Kodak’s pigmented inks that come in a simple two-cartridge setup – a full black cartridge (£6.99) and a five-ink colour cartridge (£9.99). “We are focusing on delivering easy-to-use products that provide superb-quality and save up to 50 percent on everything you print compared to similar consumer inkjet printers.” said Enrico Bradamante, Kodak’s Director of Inkjet Systems, Europe. PCMag have reviewed the new Canon ES2 compact photo printer.

“Output qualifies as true photo quality in almost every way, but with one small flaw. For some images at some resolutions, diagonal lines—as in spokes on a bicycle wheel—print with jagged edges. This is only a minor annoyance, however. Most photos don’t include straight diagonal lines, and even for those that do, the problem doesn’t always show up. Overall, the photos are at least a match for anything you’ll get from, say, your local drugstore.”

The Epson Stylus Pro GS6000 is a new 64” wide inkjet printer with an 8-colour ink set. The Epson GS6000 is designed for both indoor and outdoor applications, inclduign photo applications and fine-art reproduction. It has an exceptionally wide colour gamut which provides enhanced support for commonly used spot colours. The Epson Stylus Pro GS6000 has a resolution up to 1440x1440 dpi and a smallest ink droplet size of 3.7 picolitres. The Epson GS6000 will be first shown at the FESPA Digital show in Geneva 1-3 April. Price to be confirmed.

Kyocera today announced that it has developed the world’s fastest high-resolution inkjet printhead. The KJ4 Series offers full-color print speeds of up to 200 meters per minute at 600 x 480 dpi, or 150 meters per minute at 600 x 600 dpi. “The superior performance and reliability of Kyocera’s KJ4 Series printhead represents a breakthrough that will open new markets for inkjet printing technology,” stated Hitoshi Takao, general manager of Kyocera Corporation’s Thin Film Components Group. “We believe this product will finally make it possible for the inkjet printer to compete successfully in the mainstream market for commercial printing.” Kyocera will commence global sales of the new KJ4 Series printhead in April 2008.

HP today celebrated the 20th anniversary of the HP Deskjet printer, the world’s top-selling printer brand. The new HP Deskjet D2500 Printer Series and HP Deskjet F4200 All-in-One Series have been introduced to help mark the occasion. Both printer series feature new HP 60 ink cartridges with HP Vivera inks, offering laser-quality black text and vivid graphics with water- and smudge-resistant properties. The HP Deskjet D2500 will cost $49 and be available in Spring 2008. The HP Deskjet F4200 will cost $79 and be available in Spring 2008.

The new Epson Stylus CX9475Fax ink jet all-in-one can print, scan and share files over a wired or wireless network. Epson’s new InstaNet technology offers an intelligent, automated Windows-based network installer that is easy to use. The CX9475 Fax offers printing, copying, scanning, and high-speed black-and-white or color faxing, as well as the ability to print photos with or without a computer, using the 2.5-inch tilt LCD. The Epson CX9475Fax will be shipping in February for an estimated street price of $179.99.

HP Premium Matte Photo Paper and HP Everyday Pigment Ink Photo Paper are two new large-format photo papers. HP Premium Matte Photo Paper is a high-quality paper featuring a smooth matte surface and weighty stiffness for professional prints. HP Everyday Pigment Ink Photo Paper is an economic microporous paper that delivers superior image quality with HP Vivera pigment inks. Both papers will be available worldwide for purchase in March.

The new Mitsubishi CP-3800DW digital color printer combines an ultra-compact form factor with support for a wide range of print sizes. The CP-3800DW can produce prints in 4x8” postcard size, 6x8” scrapbook size and 8x10” for studio applications. Featuring an improved, self-cleaning thermal head, the new Mitsubishi CP-3800DW has a resolution of 600 x 600 dpi. “The new CP-3800DW provides professional photographers with a stylish printing solution that will enhance their workflow and provide them with greater versatility in the pursuit of great pictures,” commented Darla Achey, product marketing specialist, Mitsubishi.

The Sony PictureStation DPP-FP95 and DPP-FP75 are new transportable, 4 x 6-inch photo printers. The Sony DPP-FP95 has a 3.6-inch adjustable LCD screen, and the DPP-FP75 has a fixed 3.5-inch screen. Both models use dye-sublimation technology with SuperCoat 2 laminate, a durable coating that protects photos from water, heat and fingerprints. Sony are offering several print packs of high-quality paper, with prints costing as little as 29 cents per print. The DPP-FP95 and DPP-FP75 digital photo printers will be available in April for approximately $200 and $150, respectively.

The Canon PIXMA iP2600 is a new entry-level photo printer targeted at users looking for great value, high quality photo printing. The iP2600 replaces the iP2500 model and can print a 10x15cm borderless photo in just 55 seconds. Re-styled for 2008 with a lower profile and output tray, the PIXMA iP2600 delivers great design with value. The Canon PIXMA iP2600 will be available from March 2008 priced at £35.00 / €49.00.

The HP Photosmart Pro B8850 is a new photo printer aimed at advanced amateur photographers. The HP B8850 is seamlessly integrated with Adobe Photoshop CS3, features an Electrostatic Drop Detection printhead management system that efficiently self-monitors and self-cleans the printer, and automatically adjusts print settings to maintain color consistency. It also offers truly neutral black-and-white printing with individual HP Vivera pigment inks. The HP Photosmart Pro B8850 Photo Printer is expected to be available for purchase in North America in April for $549.
