Canon PowerShot A710 ISDIWA member LetsGoDigital have reviewed the new Canon PowerShot A710 IS digital camera.

“he optical image stabilisation is a big improvement on its predecessor. Its usefulness cannot be underestimated. Consumers who use the zoom function will appreciate a light camera, like the Canon A710 IS, while knowing that it is more difficult to hold steady, especially at longer focal point distances. As the optical zoom range exceeds 200mm, image stabilisation is no superfluous luxury. Canon has already had a lot of experience with optical image stabilisation and so it is only logical that this system works perfectly.”

Panasonic DMC-L1DigitalCameraInfo have published their review of the new Panasonic DMC-L1 DSLR camera.

“Panasonic and Leica have a close relationship – many lenses on compact Panasonic cameras are branded Leica, even though Panasonic builds them. The L1’s seemingly-familiar styling furthers that parallel and assumes a form that will be immediately recognizable to Leica fans. Add a kit lens that is at least a full f-stop faster than competitors’ standard lenses and Panasonic enters the DSLR market with a distinct and competitive package. “

Panasonic LUMIX DMC-FZ50DCResource have published their review of the 10 megapixel Panasonic DMC-FZ50 camera.

“Photo quality is where the FZ50 starts to fall apart. The camera does take well-exposed photos with accurate colors, pleasing sharpness, and nearly zero purple fringing. While noise is well controlled, in doing so the camera really destroys a lot of fine details in your pictures. When attacking the noise that goes along with a tiny 10 Megapixel sensor, Panasonic could’ve been conservative, gently chiseling away some (but not all) of the noise. Unfortunately, the FZ50 and it’s Venus Engine III image processor take the sledgehammer approach, leaving behind fuzzy details in its wake.”

Canon EOS 400DPopPhoto have reviewed the new Canon EOS 400D (Canon Digital Rebel XTi in the USA), which offers 10 megapixels, a large 2.5 inch LCD screen and new integrated dust removal system.

“Besides its great leap forward in image quality, the Rebel XTi gains enough additional capability (much of it from Canon’s EOS 30D) that it strains the term “entry-level.” It’s now more of a high-end camera in a bargain body. So it makes sense to compare this upstart both to the Nikon D80 and Canon’s own 30D, an 8MP camera currently selling for $350 more than the Rebel XTi.”

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-N2CameraLabs have reviewed the 10 megapixel Sony Cyber-shot DSC-N2 camera.

“Along with higher resolution, Sony’s also increased the maximum sensitivity to 1600 ISO. Like most compacts at this kind of sensitivity though the results ain’t pretty and it’s really for emergency use only. The 800 ISO setting is just about acceptable on smaller prints, but you really want to keep the N2 between 100 and 400 ISO for the best results. Again though in these respects it’s no different from most compacts.”

Canon SD40Imaging Resource have just reviewed the new Canon SD40 digital camera (also known as the Canon Digital IXUS i7 zoom).

“For me, one of the most important improvements on the Canon SD40 is that it uses Canon’s new DIGIC III processor. Canon’s DIGIC processors have proven to be very effective over the years in eliminating lag in just about all aspects of camera operation. Until you try a model with a less-than-speedy processor, it’s easy to forget what a difference a DIGIC makes.”

“Digicams with retracting lenses are among the slowest to start up and shut down, but my Quibble Meter didn’t register even a tick with the Kodak V603. It’s above average power-on time in the lab matched my actual experience with it. I had no trouble turning it off to conserve battery power when I knew I wasn’t going to use it again right away. With some cameras you dread that moment because it means a long wait to start it up again.”

Canon EOS 30DMegapixel.net have just reviewed the new 8 megapixel Canon EOS 30D DSLR.

“Moreover, with the inclusion of a shutter mechanism rated to 100,000 duty cycles, the 30D is even more intended as workhorse than the 20D was. Clearly, the EOS 30D has to be seen as an alternative for professional users that are reluctant to invest more than double the price of a 30D into a Pro designated body, that is, regardless of anything else, still part of an evolving technology. Now, as to whether any of these improvements make it worthwile for a 20D owner to upgrade to the 30D — we’ll admit to being sceptical.”

Panasonic LUMIX DMC-FX3TrustedReviews have reviewed the 6 megapixel Panasonic DMC-FX3, which features a LEICA DC lens with image stabilizer and an ISO 1600 High Sensitivity Mode.

“Colour rendition is good, producing natural tones even in the overcast weather we’ve had down here. It coped well with a range of exposure conditions and showed better dynamic range than some comparable cameras I’ve seen recently. The lens is also good, offering edge-to-edge sharpness and minimal spherical distortion at wide angle. There was some purple fringing on some high-contrast shots, but it was fairly unobtrusive.”

Fujifilm FinePix S9600ThinkCamera have reviewed the new Fujifilm S9600 (called the FinePix S9100 in the USA), which is a 9 megapixel camera with a 10x zoom lens.

“Another improvement is in the size of the LCD. It’s now a 2-inch LCD monitor with 235,000 pixels and the tilting LCD screen on the Fujifilm FinePix S9600 means you can shoot at any angle, such as close to the ground or above the head. Unlike conventional digital SLRs, it can also be used to compose images which some people will like. It’s nice and clear and I found that even in the bright conditions on Sunday I could still see the image. The Fuji uses an electronic viewfinder to though so if it’s too bright to see the screen you can view your images that way instead.”
