The Imaging Alliance has announced the winners of its prestigious Visionary Photographer Award for 2017. Drew Geraci, James L. Niehouse, Corey Rich and Benjamin Von Wong will be honoured for their visionary achievements at The Imaging Alliance’s Celebrate Imaging event on the eve of CES 2017 on Wednesday, 4 January 2017. The awards ceremony, which will showcase the winners’ imaging achievements, will take place at The Foundry, at the SLS Hotel.

The Society of International Nature and Wildlife Photographers (SINWP) have announced the winners of the ‘Best of Nature’ Photography Competition. A photo by Marco Gargiulo from Sorrento, Italy (reprinted above) was chosen as the winner from over 300+ images entered in to the competition. The runners-up include Mario Fiorucci from Argentina and Dennis Debono from Lancashire. Marco has won 12 months membership to The Society of International Nature and Wildlife Photographers. Each runner-up won a 6-month membership.

Nikon has announced that entries for the Nikon Photo Contest 2016-2017 will be accepted between 17 October 2016 and 27 January 2017. One of the world's largest international photo contests since its inception in 1969, the 36th Nikon Photo Contest sees the addition of two new categories. The ‘Nikon 100th Anniversary’ category celebrates Nikon's upcoming 100th birthday in 2017, and the ‘Next Generation’ category, for anyone under the age of 30, looks to encourage the talent of the next generation of photographers. The winners of the Nikon Photo Contest 2016-2017 will be announced in July 2017, with an awards ceremony in Japan.

The Royal Photographic Society's International Print Exhibition - world’s longest running photography competition - has announced the winners of its 159th edition. UK photographers Carolyn Mendelsohn, Polly Braden and Poem Baker secured the Gold, Silver and Bronze awards and Russian photographer Anna Shustikova won the under-30s Gold award. The competition attracted entries from 57 countries and the finalists and winners were selected by a panel consisting of social documentary photographer Dougie Wallace; Brighton Biennial Photo Festival director, Celia Davies;  the director of Glasgow’s Street Level Photoworks, Malcolm Dickson; Russ O’Connell, Picture Editor for The Sunday Times Magazine and the photography writer and editor Gemma Padley. The Gold Award image, titled Alice by Carolyn Mendelsohn focusses on the complex transition between childhood to young adulthood. Under-30s Gold winner Anna Shustikova’s image School Bus (above) was taken after a school excursion to the Dubna wetlands nature reserve in the northeast Moscow province. All the photographs selected for the exhibition will be shown at the opening exhibition at London’s Photomonth International Photography Festival, at the Old Truman Brewery, on Brick Lane, from 13–18 October (as part of the PHOTOBLOCK series of events).  The exhibition will travel to The Royal Albert Hall before moving to other venues in the UK, including the Belfast and Retina (Edinburgh) International Photography Festivals.

British Journal of Photography’s International Photography Award 2017 is now open for entries. One photographer will be selected by a panel of elite industry experts to receive a three-week solo exhibition at TJ Boulting, an innovative gallery in the heart of London, plus a £5000 production grant from Metro Imaging. The winning photographer will also have their work published across British Journal of Photography’s print and digital channels, and showcased globally on WeTransfer. Previous winners include Juno Calypso, Felicity Hammond, Dominic Hawgood, Chloe Dewe Mathews and Edmund Clark. Photographers may enter projects on any topic, shot in any format or camera model, on film or digital. Projects entered must contain a minimum of 10 and maximum of 30 images. The closing date for entries is Sunday 20 November 2016, and BJP is offering a 25% discount for early-bird entries until Friday 30 September 2016.

Calumet have announced their second Student Photographer of the Year competition to celebrate World Photo Day, which takes place on 19th August. All UK students are invited to submit a single photo of their best work along with up to 20 words explaining their chosen image. People who join Calumet’s Student Membership can submit an additional two images to the competition, with the scheme costing £25 and members receive free gifts worth over £150. Images need to be no larger than 2MB. The overall winner will be presented with their award at Calumet’s ‘Encounter More Open Days’ taking place in October and November across the company’s eight stores. The closing day for entries is 14 October 2016.

The Family Travel Show 2016 has just launched its Young Travel Photographers Competition. This photo contest has one simple aim - to celebrate the skill of young travel photographers as they capture their adventures while exploring the world with their families. There are two age categories, 11 & under and 12-17, and the winner of each category will win a £150 voucher for CEWE Photobook, a 40x60cm acrylic CEWE print of their winning image, a Canon EOS M10 camera and a Canon PIXMA iP8750 printer. The winners of the Red Bull Illume sports photography competition will be revealed to the world at the Red Bull Illume 2016 Winner Award Ceremony in Chicago on 28th September. The event will be held at The Art Institute of Chicago, followed by a short stroll to Millennium Park where the images will be unveiled for the very first stop of the Red Bull Illume Exhibit Tour. The Top 55 images will all be displayed on life-sized 2x2m light boxes – showcasing the work in the glory it deserves. The exhibition will stay in Chicago until 9 October 2016 before the Red Bull Illume Exhibit Tour moves on to its next stop.

On top of a week-long window display, April will also be invited to show off her work in the Olympus-sponsored Project Space Gallery in Bermondsey, London from 8th – 14th August. Wrekenton, Gateshead-based amateur photographer Lee Stoneman has been selected as the fourth winner of Jessops’s Share your summer competition; winning the opportunity to exhibit his work across 52 Jessops store windows. Lee’s stunning shot of the Tyne Bridge cleverly plays on natural light. On his win, Lee said: “I’m over the moon to be picked by Jessops to display my work in 52 store windows. I love the quayside at Newcastle, especially early morning when this image was taken. I captured this image just as the light was shining through the trees onto the leaves and illuminating the dew. The tide was turning which gave some great reflections. I hope my photo being on display will inspire people to look at Newcastle in a different light – and start taking more pictures of it!” On top of a week-long window display, Lee will also be invited to show off his work in the Olympus-sponsored Project Space Gallery in Bermondsey, London from 8th – 14th August.

EEF, the UK manufacturers’ organisation, is asking photographers to submit images that capture the essence of modern British manufacturing for the annual EEF photography competition. Photographs can portray any stage of manufacturing, from design, process and technology in action through to the finished product, and can cover traditional or high-tech sectors. Companies are being encouraged to open their doors to photographers in their local area to demonstrate what makes manufacturing so great. Winners of the EEF Manufacturing Photography Competition offers three categories to enter: professional, amateur and young photographer (under 20 at 30th September 2016). Entries will be shortlisted by a panel of photography and industry experts, with winners announced in December. The submission deadline is Friday 30th September.

The USA Landscape Photographer of the Year contest will open for entries on 15th July. The contest is open to everyone and you can enter photographs across seven categories including Classic View, Black and White, Urban Landscape, Environmental Value and My USA. The Judging Panel consists of International photography greats including Antony Spencer, Art Wolfe, Brenda Tharp, Charlie Waite, Charlotte Gibb, Christopher Burkett, Ian Plant, Jim Patterson, Justin Reznick, Lori Kincaid, Marc Adamus , Marc Muench, Paul Sanders, Sarah Marino and Tim Fitzharris. The USA Landscape Photographer of the Year Awards celebrate the American landscape only, however you don’t have to live in the USA to enter. The Travel Photographer of the Year exhibition is set to open on July 22nd at 10 Stockwell Street, the award-winning building at the University of Greenwich, within the Maritime Greenwich UNESCO World Heritage Site. The photographs going on display are the winning shots from the international Travel Photographer of the Year awards, one of the world’s leading photography competitions. Photographers from 114 countries have entered TPOTY, and these images give a beautiful, fascinating, entertaining and, at times, moving, depiction of life, cultures, wildlife and landscape all over the planet. Visitors can take home the winning images in the form of the latest TPOTY book, Journey Eight, which will go on sale at the exhibition. They will also be able to buy postcards and greetings cards featuring a selection of the winning images. Open seven days a week, this free-to-view exhibition runs to September 4th.

Leica has announced that the twelve finalists in this year’s Leica Oskar Barnack Award have been selected. The chosen photographers include Juan Pablo Bellandi, Fulvio Bugani, Scarlett Coten, William Daniels, Vincent Delbrouck, Guillaume Herbaut, Stéphane Lavoué, Max Pinckers, Guilio Piscitelli, Clémentine Schneidermann, Sadegh Souri and Esther Teichmann. Leica will publicly present the work of all twelve finalists for the first time in a grand exhibition at the ‘Neuen Schule für Fotografie Berlin’, from 29 September to 23 October 2016.

Pixel.co.uk has launched its inaugural photography competition. Comprising five categories, the competition is open to registered users of the website. "We have a great prize lined up for the winner of each of the five categories, kindly donated by our overall Sponsor, Fujifilm UK," the company said in a statement. Fujifilm are going to be offering the winner of each category a 24”x 36” print of their winning image, made at one of London's most prestigious labs. We'll invite them to the lab for a tour and to see their own print being made. The print will then be presented to them along with their award at the Pixel Trade Awards ceremony in London on the 2nd December. Now open for entries, the first category is all about landscape photography. The submission deadline is 15th July.
