PopPhoto have reviewed the new 10 megapixel Nikon D80 DSLR camera.
“Perhaps you’re thinking this is One Complicated Camera. Absolutely not. Pick it up, put it on Program, choose a resolution, and shoot. When you need advanced controls or after-shooting tweaks, they’re there, but they don’t intrude on the shooting experience. After testing this camera, we began to suspect that the people at Nikon have simply gone crazy. The D80 in many instances equals the performance of the $700-more-expensive D200. Sure, the D200 has a tougher body and tougher shutter, but that’s still quite a gap.”

ThinkCamera have just reviewed the new 8 megapixel Canon EOS 30D DSLR.
“I’ve said this before - I’m a little disappointed this camera exists. The upgrades from the 20D are minor at best and it would have been great if Canon could have released firmware patches to bring the 20D close to the performance of the 30D. As it is I didn’t find anything important that the 30D had that the 20D lacked apart from pot metering. Screen is a little bigger and nicer to look at but really it’s an evolutionary change. That’s not to say the 30D is bad - the 20D is a very nice camera but some people hoped for more when a model got replaced.”

Megapixel.net have reviewed the new 10 megapixel Nikon D80 DSLR camera.
“In summary, the D80 is an important step beyond the D70, and is an excellent alternative to the more expensive D200. Compared to its predecessor, the D80’s autofocus is much faster, its sensitivity range is greater and it is equipped with a 2.5-inch LCD monitor. Just as important, the 10.2-megapixel resolution of the D80 allows it to capture even finer details than had been possible with the D70. Last but not least, the D80 can be mated to a vertical grip that supports a second shutter release for vertical shots, something that was unavailable on the D70.”

DPReview have reviewed the new Canon EOS 400D (Canon Digital Rebel XTi in the USA), which offers 10 megapixels, a large 2.5 inch LCD screen and new integrated dust removal system.
“The EOS 400D (Rebel XTi) turned out to be everything we expected it to be; a progressive upgrade to the already hugely successful EOS 350D (Rebel XT). Image quality was just as good, with plenty of detail, low noise and sophisticated noise reduction at higher sensitivities an well balanced, and thanks to PictureStyles predictable, color and tone. It also has a significantly improved user interface, dust reduction system, 9 point auto-focus, larger LCD monitor and combined status display / setting change system. All this in a camera which is just as small and light as the camera it replaces.”

DIWA member Photoxels have reviewed the 7.5 megapixel, live preview Olympus E-330 DSLR camera.
“Was it worth switching the pentaprism for the porro mirrors just so a flat top design could be achieved? Those of you coming from the DSLR side will find the viewfinder of the E-330 smaller and darker compared to the large and bright viewfinder of a typical DSLR that uses a traditional pentaprism. But if you come from the consumer digital camera side and are upgrading to a DSLR, you will welcome the optical viewfinder on the E-330: it is much better than the tunnel vision viewfinders or EVFs on the non-DSLR cameras.”

CameraLabs have published a group test of 3 new 10 megapixel DSLR cameras, including the new 10.2 megapixel Sony A100 (pictured), Canon EOS 400D and Nikon D80.
“The Nikon D80 is arguably the best camera of the three. It beats the 400D / XTi and A100 in almost every respect, sporting superior design and build quality, the biggest, brightest viewfinder, more sophisticated AF, greater customisation and a secondary status screen which many will find easier to read in bright light. While some test results were very close, the D80 also resolved the greatest detail and many will prefer its handling of high ISO noise to the Canon.”

DIWA member LetsGoDigital have reviewed the new Samsung GX-1S digital SLR, a 6 megapixel digital camera that uses the Pentax lens mount.
“To venture into the market of the DSLR camera as a perfect stranger can be very tricky indeed. Samsung have adopted a rather clever approach to this problem by joining forces with one of the “old hands”. However, where we saw Sony and Panasonic add a new flavour, Samsung have resorted to a copy of an existing camera. A pity really, especially as Samsung really do have more than a fair share of know-how, and simply could have done better.”

PCMagazine have reviewed the new Canon EOS 400D (Canon Digital Rebel XTi in the USA), which offers 10 megapixels, a large 2.5 inch LCD screen and new integrated dust removal system.
“In my labs and real-world testing, the Canon Rebel XTi did quite well. On daylight still-life shots, the camera demonstrated a little more noise than the Nikon D80 did, but in general, it produced excellent dynamic range and contrast. Colors were vibrant, even in the deepest tones, such as purple, and showed very little fringing. Images were sharp—sharper than either the Nikon D80’s or the Sony Alpha A100’s.”

PCMagazine have reviewed the new 10 megapixel Nikon D80 DSLR camera.
“The D80 packs excellent performance, very good image quality, and a long zoom lens. There’s little not to like about it, except perhaps the high sticker price ($999.95 list). That amount covers the camera body only, but $1,299 nets you a very fine 18- to 135mm lens in addition, which is what I used in testing the camera. In my opinion, it’s well worth the extra cost.”

DCResource have reviewed the new Canon EOS 400D (Canon Digital Rebel XTi in the USA), which offers 10 megapixels, a large 2.5 inch LCD screen and new integrated dust removal system.
“Overall, the Rebel XTi’s image quality is excellent. The camera generally took well-exposed pictures, with pleasing colors and minimal noise. Purple fringing levels varied depending on what lens I used, but it usually was not a problem. The only real issue I have with regard to image quality may not be an issue to many people. I like my photos a little sharper than what the XTi produces at default settings. Canon D-SLRs produce very smooth-looking images, but they can look a little soft compared to what those of you with point-and-shoot cameras are used to. Thus, I’d probably use the Landscape Picture Style, which has a sharpness setting of four (instead of three). You can also create your own custom Picture Style with with the sharpness setting that you like the best.”
