Canon EOS 850D DSLR Camera, 24 Megapixels, 7fps Burst Shooting, 4K Video

The new Canon EOS 850D DSLR camera is the successor to the EOS 77D and 800D models, with both lines merging into one.

Canon are still dedicated to DSLR and mirrorless systems, giving people more choice, with both system having their own particular merits and drawbacks.

The Canon 850D (also known as the EOS Rebel T8i in the US) has a very similar design to the 800D, sitting between the 250D and 90D in the EOS range.

This is a 24 megapixel APS-C DSLR with the latest Digic 8 processor. It offers 7fps burst shooting, Eye Detection AF, Dual Pixel CMOS 45 point all cross-type AF system, 400K pixel AE sensor, and 4K 24/25p cropped video (same as the EOS 250D).

It now features a new Quick Control dial and a new AF-ON button, plus a 3.5mm jack for an external mic.

The Canon EOS 850D will be available from April 2020 priced at £819.99 / €989.99 body-only.

In the US, the EOS Rebel T8i camera body has an estimated retail price of $749.99 and the EOS Rebel T8i kit with EF-S 18-55mm F4-5.6 IS STM lens has an estimated retail price of $899.99.

Canon Tripod Grip HG-100TBR and the Canon Stereo Microphone DM-E100

Canon have announced two ergonomic, lightweight and versatile accessories for vloggers and videographers, the Canon Tripod Grip HG-100TBR and the Canon Stereo Microphone DM-E100.

Both the Canon HG-100TBR tripod grip and Canon DM-E100 stereo microphone will be available from December 2019 priced at £99 / €119 each.

Canon Tops Three Categories at 2017 EISA Awards

Canon has been awarded three prestigious accolades from the European Imaging and Sound Association (EISA). PocketWizard FlexTT6 Transceiver for Canon

LPA Design has announced the new FlexTT6 Transceiver for Canon. With new under-the-hood technology, it is compatible with the Canon 5D Mark IV, 1D X Mark II, 80D, 77D, T7i and T6 cameras, along with Canon’s 600 EX II-RT and 430 EX III-RT flashes. “Owners of newer Canon cameras can now access the remarkable wireless TTL technology pioneered and patented by PocketWi zard,” comments Karen Marshall, CEO of LPA Design. “Our engineering team was able to conquer the challenges presented by faster camera sensors with this hardware solution.” The FlexTT6 is forward, backward and cross-compatible with the PocketWizard family of wireless radios. This includes compatibility with the FlexTT5 as a receiving radio, as well as the entire line of Plus radios, the MultiMAX, MiniTT1, AC3 ZoneController and Control TL receivers. The new FlexTT6 for Canon will be available at retail and on line in the US and Canada starting June 8, 2017.

Adobe Lightroom CC 2015.10

Adobe have released an update to Lightroom CC. Version 2015.10 / 6.10 adds support for raw image files generated by the new Canon EOS M6 (pictured), EOS 77D, EOS 800D and Pentax KP; incorporates 22 new lens profiles, and fixes a number of bugs. In order to install the update, select Help > Updates in the Adobe Creative Cloud app.

Adobe Camera Raw 9.10

Adobe have released ACR 9.10 and DNG Converter 9.10. The latest update of Adobe Camera Raw adds support for the new Canon EOS M6, EOS 800D and EOS 77D, and the Pentax KP (pictured), incorporates 22 new lens profiles, and fixes bugs. To install the update, simply select Help>Updates to use the update mechanism in the Adobe Creative Cloud app.

Canon Celebrate 14th Year of Market Leadership

Canon have announced that their interchangeable-lens digital cameras (digital SLRs and CSCs) have maintained the No. 1 share of the global market for 14 consecutive years from 2003 to 2016. In 2003, Canon introduced their breakthrough EOS 300D DSLR camera, which was competitively priced and quickly captured the top share of the global market. Canon has continued to launch a range of interchangeable-lens cameras including the professional-model EOS-1D series and the EOS 5D series which paved the way for digital SLR video recording. During 2016, Canon released the EOS 80D for advanced amateur users, the EOS-1D X Mark II for professionals, and the 4K-enabled EOS 5D Mark IV (pictured) for video enthusiasts. Additionally, the company’s interchangeable-lens camera lineup was further expanded with the introduction of the high-end EOS M5 compact-system camera in November. This year, the company launched the Canon EOS M6, EOS 77D and EOS 800D models.

Canon EOS 800D First Impressions Review

This month Canon celebrates 30 years of its EOS system. The company has invested a lot in the system over those years, launching almost 100 film and digital EOS cameras and over 100 EF lenses.

To mark the anniversary, Canon UK has held meet-ups to showcase EOS cameras old and new. Photography Blog was invited to an event in the Aldwych disused underground station in London for a hands on with one of the company’s latest EOS cameras, the EOS 800D.

Canon Japan have released 4 full-resolution sample images taken with the new Canon EOS 77D digital SLR camera. Captured using a variety of lenses including the Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/4-5.6 IS STM, EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM, EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS STM and EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM; these Canon EOS 77D samples were taken at sensitivity settings ranging from ISO 100/21° to ISO 400/27°.
