Nikon has issued a firmware update for the Nikon D3200 digital SLR camera. Version 1.03 enables the display of error messages when lenses with a retractable lens mechanism, such as the AF-S DX Nikkor 18–55mm f/3.5–5.6G VR II, are used with the lens barrel retracted. You can download the firmware upgrade from the website below.

The Nikon SB-300 is a compact and simple flash unit with a tilting head. Offering a guide number of 18 (in metres at ISO 100/21°), the Nikon SB-300 is compatible with the manufacturer's i-TTL flash exposure control system, and boasts an FV lock function with which flash volume is determined based on monitor flashes and saved so that composition may be changed while maintaining the flash value (this function works with certain cameras only). It also has a thermal cutout function, which prevents damage to the flash due to overheating during high-intensity firing. The Speedlight SB-300 will be available later this month for $149.95/£139.99 / €169.00.
Nikon has posted firmware updates for the DX-format Nikon D7000 as well as the FX-format Nikon D3, D3S (pictured) and D3X DSLR cameras. Unlike the more comprehensive firmware updates issued for the Nikon D3200, D600, D800 and D4, this upgrade simply adds support for the new AF-S Nikkor 800mm f/5.6E FL ED VR lens.

Nikon has announced the US availability of the new Nikon D5200 digital SLR camera. The 24.1 megapixel Nikon D5200 succeeds the D5100, featuring a new EXPEED 3 image processor, ISO range of 100-6400 which is extendable to 25600, 3-inch vari-angle LCD monitor, Fulll 1080p HD movies, 5fps burst shooting, 39-point AF system, 2,016-pixel RGB metering sensor, the Scene Recognition System and a new generation GUI Design. Priced at $899.95 with the AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 VR lens, the Nikon D5200 will be available in late January in three colours (black, red and bronze).

DxO Labs have released DxO Optics Pro v7.5.1. This update adds support for the Nikon D800E (Elite edition only) and D3200, the Sony SLT A35 and SLT A57, and the Panasonic Lumix DMC GX1. The program’s raw conversion algorithms have been fine-tuned such that the “Remove colour moiré” tool works more effectively for the Nikon D800E camera to restore the finest details. Additionally, DxO Optics Pro v7.5.1 has integrated more than 400 new DxO Optics Modules, of which 61 are modules for the Nikon D800E and 71 are for the Nikon D3200. The Standard and Elite editions of DxO Optics Pro for Mac and Windows are available in the DxO Labs online boutique and at photo resellers, at a special discount price good through June 30, 2012.

Nikon has posted seven full-resolution sample photos taken with the new Nikon D3200 digital SLR camera. Shot at ISO 100 at ISO 200, the samples were captured with three low-cost lenses including the AF-S DX 18-55mm kit zoom, the AF-S DX 55-300mm telezoom and the AF-S DX Micro-Nikkor 40mm f/2.8G macro lens. The Nikon D3200 will be available in black or red priced at £559.99 / €667.00 body only and £649.99 / €775.00 / $699.95 with the Nikkor 18-55mm VR lens.
Also announced alongside the D3200 is the WU-1a Wireless Mobile Adapter (£54.99 / $59.95), which allows you to wirelessly transmit images from your camera to an Android smart device (iOS support is promised for later in 2012) and to remotely preview the live view screen.
