SanDisk has launched a professional photography contest on the SanDisk Extreme Team Facebook page. The submission deadline is 31 July, 11:30pm PT. Entries are accepted in four different categories – Nature, Wedding/Events, Action and Fashion. The grand prize winner will be offered a one year spot on the SanDisk Extreme Team and the grand prize winning photo will be exhibited in the “Winner’s Circle” gallery showing during the PhotoPlus Expo in New York City. The four finalists, the winners of each category, will each receive a $1,000 cash prize and their photos will be featured in the online Winner’s Circle gallery. Eight runners-up will receive $250 worth of SanDisk memory cards, and their photos will be featured in the online Winner’s Circle gallery.  The winners will be announced on or around 31 October.

Stella Artois is encouraging its Canadian fans to submit their best photography for a chance to win a Sony digital SLR camera. The competition is organised around five themes including “Travel”, “Good Times”, “Stylish”, “Urban” and “The Life of Légere”. To enter the contest you must have Internet access, a valid Club Stella Artois profile and email address. The top five finalists will have their photos professionally developed and put on display at the Stella Artois Canadian Draught Master Finals in Toronto. This year’s Leica Oskar Barnack Award goes to the Swedish photographer Jens Olof Lasthein for his portfolio, “Waitingfor the future – pictures from Abkhazia”. Abkhazia is a disputed territory that is considered to be a part of Georgia international law. “The future of the people there is just as uncertain as that of their home country. The National Wildlife Federation encourages all US based photographers to take part in its 40th photo contest. The contest offers cash prizes totaling more than $30,000, as well as other gifts to be awarded to winners from seven categories in three separate divisions: Professional, Amateur, and Youth. Winners will be published on NWF’s website and a selection will appear in the December 2010 issue of National Wildlife Magazine. The deadline for entering NWF’s photo contest is 6 July. Note that there is a $20 entry fee, which includes a one-year membership to the National Wildlife Federation and six issues of National Wildlife magazine

ZeissImages.com, the recently launched online photo gallery of images captured with Zeiss lenses, has just announced its first photo contest. The theme is “As seen through your eyes”, and there are five categories - Landscape, Glamor, People, Nature and City/Architecture. ZeissImages.com members can submit up to 3 photographs per category.There are no fees or exchange of services required to participate in the contest, but it is mandatory that photographs submitted be taken with a Zeiss lens. Travelodium Travel Club and Magazine have launched a new competition for people who love to travel. The objective is to help other travellers by writing about the best places and secrets that most travellers won’t know about in the city/town that you live in. Although this is primarily a writing competition, the organisers would also love to see your photographs. “It would be fantastic if you could send in a least one photo of one of the principal tourist sites of the city,” says magazine editor David Cronk. The best entry for 2010 will win $1000 of travel products.

Mykindofphone.com has launched an online competition offering the winner an opportunity to participate in a six-night Kenyan photo safari tour. The prestigious Sony World Photography Awards are now open for entries. The festival will expand to four major cities across the globe throughout 2010 and 2011, visiting San Francisco, Mexico City, Shanghai and London. Professional and ‘serious enthusiast’ photographers are invited to join the Professional competition and will be judged on a body of work. The 14 professional categories are arranged into three genres - Commercial, Fine Art and Photojournalism & Documentary - and new categories include Lifestyle, Still Life, and People. The Open competition, which replaces the amateur competition, has been created for the growing number of people with a love of photography. It has nine categories, and is judged on a single image. The 2011 competition closes for entries on 5 January 2011. Winners of the Professional and Open categories will each receive their trophies at the Sony World Photography Awards ceremony in London on 27 April 2011.

Artists and photographers Ben Raynor, Chris Mear, Robert Attard, Anna Taylor and Nicola Thompson are announced winners of the 2010 Free Range Art Award. The diverse selection, embracing Ben Raynor’s humorous mixed media drawing Albert alongside Anna Taylor’s subtly emotive photograph Grandad (shown above), demonstrates Free Range at its best, the organisers say. Each selected work will be produced as a print in a limited edition of 25, giving the artists the opportunity to sell their work. The RSPCA Young Photographer Awards 2010 (YPA10) is now open for entries. Photographs can be submitted in the post, to arrive no later than 5pm on 23 August, or online on the contest website until the closing date of midnight on Monday, 6 September. The overall winner will get £1,000 worth of Olympus kit of their choice. Additionally, Danny Green - one of the world’s best wildlife photographers - is offering the overall YPA10 winner the chance to join him for a three-day photography break.
