The Panasonic Lumix TZ80 is an 18-megapixel travelzoom camera featuring an 1/2.3" MOS sensor, 4K movie capture and a Leica branded 24-720mm equivalent lens with optical image stabilisation. For the first time in a travel camera, Panasonic’s 4K Photo function allows you to extract an 8-megapixel still from 4K video. Another new addition to the LUMIX TZ range is the Post-Focus feature, which allows you to select the focal point of your picture even after it’s taken. A dedicated control ring gives smooth control of settings such as zoom, aperture and shutter speed. Similarly, a 3.0-inch 1040k-dot touch screen makes navigating menus and selecting your preferred setting quick and easy, even in bright sunlight, the company says. In addition to the rear screen, the Panasonic Lumix TZ80 boasts a built-in 0.2" electronic viewfinder with a resolution of 1,166k dots.

The completely unique Light L16 camera, a new kind of imaging device sporting 16 camera modules, is now available to pre-order. Roughly the size of an iPhone 6S Plus in a case, the Light L16 has 5 cameras with 35mm equivalent lenses, 5 modules with 70mm equivalent primes and 6 units boasting 150mm equivalent telephoto lenses. Each camera module utilises a small imaging chip of the kind typically  used in smartphones. The 35mm equivalent units have a traditional, vertically stacked optical arrangement, whilst the 70mm and 150mm equivalent ones utilise a folded-optics design. When taking a picture, 10 of the cameras fire simultaneously and the resulting images are then "computationally fused" to create a clear, highly detailed final photograph (up to 52 megapixels when shooting at the 35mm or 70mm focal lengths). When working at the 150mm end, there is no superresolution advantage - the final images will be13 megapixels, which is the native pixel count of the individual sensors used - but having multiple cameras take the same shot at the same time still helps with keeping noise levels down and producing HDR imagery even for moving subjects. Additionally, the Light L16 uses depth mapping to allow for post-capture adjustment of the point of focus and depth of field. If you order before 1 January 2016, you get a £100 discount, otherwise the camera will cost £1199.99.

Panasonic have announced an upcoming firmware update for their Lumix G7, GX8 (pictured) and FZ330 digital cameras, which enables photographers to select whichever part of the image they want to be in focus post-capture. Operation of the Post Focus function is straightforward and easy: turn on the feature, compose and take your picture. Then, while reviewing the images simply touch the area you want the focus to be and a new image with the selected focus area will be produced as a separate photo. Post Focus has been made possible by combining the high-speed, high-precision DFD (Depth from Defocus) auto focus technology and Panasonic’s 4K technology (burst images in 4K resolution are shot at 30 fps while detecting up to 49 areas of a frame for focus points at different depths of field). The Post Focus firmware update will be available at 01:00 GMT on 25th November, 2015 on the LUMIX Global website.

The Sony RX1R II is a new "palm-sized" digital compact camera with a 42.4-megapixel full-frame sensor, a variable optical low-pass filter, a Zeiss Sonnar T* 35mm f/2 lens and a convenient retractable XGA OLED viewfinder for eye-level shooting. The three settings for the AA filter include “off”, which provides comparable effects to having no low-pass filter and is suitable when prioritising resolution, “standard”, which strikes a balance between resolution and removal of moiré and colour artifacts, and “high”, which places more emphasis on reducing moiré and artifacting. The RX1R II model is the first in Sony’s acclaimed RX line of compact cameras to feature Fast Hybrid AF capabilities. The camera’s sensor features 399 focal-plane phase-detection AF points that cover about 45% of the image area – the world’s widest AF coverage on a full-frame sensor – that work together with 25 contrast AF points to achieve focus response that is about 30% faster than the original model. Offering uncompressed 14-bit-per-channel raw image capture, the Sony RX1R II will be available in December 2015, priced at £2,600/$3,299.
