Previously unseen photographs from Nadav Kander’s journeys along the course of China’s Yangtze River will go on display at Flowers from 14 October 2010 to coincide with the publication of a monograph comprising the complete series. “The river is embedded in the consciousness of the Chinese, even those separated from it by thousands of miles,” the organisers say. “It plays a pivotal role in both the spiritual and physical life of the nation.” The exhibition coincides with the publication of a comprehensive monograph introduced by Kofi A. Annan and published by Hatje Cantz. Kofi A. Annan presented Kander with the 2009 Prix Pictet photographic award in sustainability for a selection of photographs from ‘Yangtze – The Long River’.

A UK-based company called Earth’s Beauty Tours has announced a photo tour to the Greek islad of Mykonos. “The landscape of Mykonos with its granite rocks, picturesque windmills and whitewashed houses with blue doors and windows, its merciless sunlight in contrast with the deep-blue sea is interspersed with many chapels,” the organisers say. The tour will take place from 1st - 8th of July 2011 and participants will be guided by Greek born and Scotland-based pro photographer Dimitri Vasiliou. In September, leading East London photographic gallery theprintspace will open its doors for SoShowMe, an exhibition showcasing a range of fascinating photography compiled through monthly Facebook competitions and a Flickr group. From 23rd October 2010 to 24th April 2011, the Annenberg Space for Photography will be hosting “Extreme Exposure”, a group exhibit featuring arresting imagery from five unique talents in photography. ” These photographers have made careers of capturing some of our planet’s most extreme environments, while dangling from a helicopter or immersed in alligator-infested waters; enduring freezing temperatures for months or braving an angry volcano,” the organisers say. “Extreme Exposure” will showcase lush jungle photography by Michael Nichols, swamplands captured by Clude Butcher, Donna and Stephen James O’Meara’s vibrant photos of erupting volcanoes and Paul Nicklen’s transfixing photos of the alien landscapes found in polar regions and the rare animals inhabiting these isolated environments. The f/508 Photography Place, located in Brasília, Brazil’s capital, will host the first f/508 Week of Photography – I Love Film event. From 19 to 29 August, f/508’s head office will become a place of sharing and learning, were workshops, lectures, exhibitions and projections will take place, among other activities. Three exhibitions will open the f/508 Week of Photography (Semana f/508 de Fotografia): “Pinhole photography”, “Historical Photographic Processes” and “Aesthetics of Chance”. Participants will be encouraged to practice historical analogue processes such as daguerreotype, cianotype, vandyke, albumen prints, saltprints and pinhole photography. Innova Art promises to offer “truly astounding adventures in image making” at this year’s Photokina. Highlights on the Innova Art stand (C31, Hall 6.1) include an exhibition of Josh Cole’s ‘Physical Graffiti’ portfolio, demonstrations of the company’s Jetmaster Display System as well as its Décor Art ES papers and IFA-36 Photo Canvas Ultra Gloss media, and more. Hasselblad will present the winning images of the 2009 Hasselblad Masters contest at Photokina 2010. “These images immediately knocked me out in so many ways: through their creative originality, passionate execution and technical perfection”, says Christian Nørgaard, Photographer Relations Manager at Hasselblad. “During the Masters competition, the ten winners prevailed despite a strong challenge from almost 3,000 photographers from all over the world.” The works will be on show in the Visual Gallery in Hall 1 at Photokina. Simon Roberts, who was commissioned by the House of Commons to produce a series of artworks documenting this year’s election in the UK, will provide a guest lecture and workshop as part of a photography masterclass being offered at Nottingham Trent University (NTU). The course, being run from the University’s Bonington building, is aimed at enthusiasts and professionals and will focus on black and white landscape photography through the medium of the fine art print. The schedule will include portfolio advice, seminar presentations, darkroom techniques, one-to-one and group tutorials by landscape photographers, and guest lectures on landscape and documentary photography.

Fujifilm has organised a scavenger hunt on 25th July in New York City to celebrate the resurgence of instant film photography on the declaration of its first annual Instax Day. Instax Day will bring 50 instant film enthusiasts together to use instant film to capture New York City landmarks and hot spots during a summer fun scavenger hunt that will take place between Rockefeller Center and Union Square Park. The Photography of Curt Gunther, The Beatles First North American Tour, 1964 is a new exhibition at the Morrison Hotel Gallery in New York. The candid photos capture the young Fab Four in intimate and lighthearted moments, just as Beatlemania was reaching its most fevered pitch. The limited-edition prints of the Beatles photos in this exhibit were printed exclusively on Canson Infinity papers. The exhibition will run through the middle of July.
