Alaska 2007 ExpeditionTranscend is supplying wilderness photographer Philippe Jacquot with 120x speed compact flash cards, as he embarks on the “40 pictures in 40 days” project in Alaska. The expedition Alaska 2007 will take place from the 16th June till the 29th July. Jacquot will use Transcend’s 4GB and 8GB 120X Ultra Performance CF cards.

This weekend Sony are showcasing the winning photography from their Sony Cyber-shot Exposure competition, a European wide competition held in conjunction with MSN. With over 40,000 entries from across 16 countries, the Sony Cyber-shot competition ran for one month and received breathtaking pictures from all over Europe. The winning photographs will be showcased at The Soho Gallery, Charing Cross Road, on Saturday 2nd June. Open to the public, also attending will be the winner from each country who was lucky enough to win a trip to London to see their photographs showcased as well as a Sony T100 camera. The overall winner also received a DSC-H9 camera with a set of lens accessories.

All Tomorrow's Pictures - Matthew GordonOne lucky member of the UK public will be chosen to complete the final 60th image for the All Tomorrow’s Pictures project. Sony Ericsson is helping the ICA to help celebrate its 60th anniversary. The competition goes live on 7 February and will be open until 2 March. Prizes include a Sony Ericsson K800i Cybershot phone, a Bluetooth printer, a year’s membership at the ICA and a day with a professional photographer.

UPDATE 18th May: The All Tomorrow’s Pictures competition has now finished and the pictures will be displayed in an exhibition as from 31 May. The winning public contribution picture was submitted by Matthew Gordon.

Pioneers in Photography ExhibitionThe landmark exhibition ‘ILFORD PHOTO - Pioneers in Photography’ which opened at London’s HOST Gallery on 16 April was extended by a week due to its unprecedented popularity. The exhibition will tour other galleries around the world, with New York a likely venue later in the year. More than 50 examples of iconic black-and-white images printed on the new ILFORD GALERIE FB DIGITAL photographic paper were exhibited.

RPS 149th International Print ExhibitionThe Royal Photographic Society’s 149th International Print Exhibition will spend a month in the National Art Museum of Ukraine in Kiev from 18th May until 17th June 2007. Over 50,000 people visited the exhibition during its recent tour of the UK. “Over the last 150 years, the International Print Exhibition has stood for the very best photography that the world has to offer and it is exciting that we are now able to share the exhibition with photographic enthusiasts in the Ukraine for the first time, thanks to the support of the British Council.” commented Professor Ralph Jacobson ASIS Hon. Nikon Coolpix P5000Soulcatcher Studio is featuring guest photographer Charles Peterson for an exclusive exhibition, featuring a selection of previously unpublished images from his vast archive. HPDuring a special exhibition run by HP in conjunction with the Musee D’Elysee with in Lausanne, Switzerland, anyone from anywhere in the world is invited to submit and have their photographs displayed. “We Are All Photographers Now” runs from 8 February to 20 May 2007. An attempt to “democratise photography”, the exhibition will gather all the images sent in by you via the web and project them in sequence. Each projected image will then be captured by webcam and emailed back to you. The exhibition will also be available to view online. A few weeks after opening, the exhibition already has more than 19,000 images from 109 countries!

Epson Art Photo AwardThe Epson art photo award is aimed at groups of students from universities, colleges and other educational establishments worldwide. Students are able to choose their own themes; the judges will be looking for the best, most innovative and most pioneering concepts related to the creative use of the photographic medium. In addition to a total of 37,500 euros (circa £25,000) in prize money, the Epson art photo award 2007/2008 gives winners the opportunity to exhibit at a special exhibition as part of ART COLOGNE 2008.

Steve McQueenManchester International Festival has together with the Imperial War Museum co-commissioned Official War Artist Steve McQueen to create a response to the second Iraq War. ‘For Queen and Country’ will be exhibited in the Great Hall, Central Library, Manchester, from 28 February – 15 July 2007. The project consists of a set of postage stamps featuring a photographic portrait of the individual men and women who have lost their lives in Iraq.

Acclaimed fashion photographer Corinne Day has produced a new series of portraits of Kate Moss for the National Portrait Gallery. The nine black and white images are all shot in close up in the style of a single frame, capturing both the beauty of the model, as well has her character. Each image is subtly different and reflects a conversation between the sitter and photographer. Day, known for establishing long term relationships with her subjects, has been photographing Moss for over 15 years.

Women’s AidThe controversial snapper photographs new domestic abuse campaign

International film director, fashion and portrait photographer Rankin has taken time out of his hectic schedule to work on a different kind of campaign. Today Women’s Aid, the national domestic violence charity, launches its new domestic abuse awareness campaign under the new brand Act and Rankin has shot the striking images. Famous female celebrity faces such as Anne-Marie Duff, Fiona Bruce, Honor Blackman and Anna Friel have all participated in the campaign which hopes to emphasise the fact that domestic violence can affect every woman, no matter her age or situation.

Tuesday night at the Frontline Club saw Dutch photographer Kadir van Lohuizen host a talk about his work Diamond Matters, a series chronicling the conditions and conflict that surround the highly lucrative diamond business from the mines of South West Africa to the upmarket jewellers of Fifth Avenue. Striking because of his stature, strong eyes and curly hair, van Lohuizen has spent a great deal of his professional life photographing Africa, which is clear in a series of images from the 90s through to the present day.
