The PhotoVoice Photographers’ Lecture Series continues into 2008 with legendary British fashion and celebrity photographer John Swannell. On Tuesday 8th April, Swannell will talk about his extraordinary life in pictures: from his subtly lit portraits of the British monarchy to his classically composed nudes and distinctive panoramic rural landscapes. He has also generously offered himself up as a raffle prize - the lucky winner of which will enjoy a one-off opportunity to spend a day with him in his studio.

Andy will be available for personal critiques on the Páramo stand at the Show, OU 414. Photographers can sign up in advance with Páramo to have 10 minutes of Andy’s time at the show. The RPS is launching three new youth photography bursaries worth £15,000 each with funding from Jeff Vickers FRPS. The bursaries aim to inspire and encourage young photographers to excel in the field. Applicants must demonstrate a flair for imaging and creativity in their work. Anyone under 25 years old can apply for the Jeff Vickers FRPS Genix Imaging Bursary.

Tim Graham has photographed the British Royal Family gathered together for the first time in 35 years. Graham was invited to photograph the Royal Family in celebration of the Diamond Wedding Anniversary of the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh. The image, featuring twenty-five Royal Family members, will form part of Tim Graham’s Royal Archive that from the end of this month will be exclusively available at the Getty Images Hulton Archive.

Beyond Sight is a multi-sensory exhibition of photographs by blind and visually impaired people, held at the Association of Photographers gallery in London. In recognition of International Day of Disabled People 2007, images by groups in the UK and Mexico trained by PhotoVoice and Sight of Emotion will be exhibited alongside work by renowned sighted and blind photographers, including Gerardo Nigenda and Martin Parr. The exhibition will celebrate the possibilities of photography; a medium traditionally regarded as the domain of sighted people, and will challenge our conventional understanding of visual communication and of what it means to ‘see’. The exhibition runs from 3rd - 8th December 2007.

Getty Images has acquired one of the world’s premier collections of imagery depicting the British Royal Family over the last 30 years. The collection, taken by Royal photographer, Tim Graham, spans four generations of the Royal Family and contains over 200,000 images. “Having photographed Royal occasions for three decades, it is now appropriate for me to look to the future,” comments Tim Graham. “I am aware of the historical significance of my archive and I want to ensure that my photographs will continue to be published worldwide for many years to come.” Tim Graham’s collection of 30 years of the best royal photography will be housed at Getty Images’ Hulton Archive in London.

Victorian Visions is a new exhibition of 19th century photography running at the Lady Lever Art Gallery in Wirral, UK. The collection is on loan from the Victorian & Albert Museum in London and looks at many major names in the field, such as Julia Margaret Cameron, Lady Hawarden, Roger Fenton, Francis Frith, Robert Howlett and B.B. Turner. The exhibition contains around 40 original photographs and offers a fascinating insight into the Victorian view of the world. ‘Victorian Visions 19th century photography’ runs from 1 December to 16 March 2008, admission is free.

The Royal Photographic Society is offering a range of different bursary schemes to support and encourage young photographers. This follows the RPS 150th International Print Exhibition (launched during the summer), where a print was chosen to be included that was taken by a nine year old - the youngest in the Society’s history. The images at the show will represent the time Al spent with Hunter in Cozumel., Mexico, in 1974. Most of the images will be printed on Hahnemuhle papers. The show is presented by East Village Collective and The Woodstock Film Festival and will run from October 10th November 10th.
