Epson today announced the Epson SureColor P600 13-inch photo printer. Designed for creative professionals, fine artists and advanced amateur and pro photographers, the SureColor P600 combines an advanced MicroPiezo AMC printhead with next-generation Epson UltraChrome HD pigment inks driven by enhanced AccuPhoto HD imaging technology to produce exhibition-quality black-and-white prints with "never before seen" pigment black density and "stunningly vivid" colour prints. The Epson SureColor P600 also offers new ease-of use features and capabilities, such as a 3.5-inch tilting colour LCD and a variety of connectivity options including USB, Wireless n, Wi-Fi Direct and Ethernet. Currently on display at PhotoPlus Expo, the new printer will be available for purchase in Q1 2015 through authorised resellers for $799.

Canon has released a firmware update for eleven Pixma printers. The new version adds a security option to the Remote UI menu to set an administrator password in order to protect your printer settings from being changed by unauthorised people. The company recommends that you install the update and set up a password if your printer is connected to a network. The affected models include the Pixma MG7120, MG6420, MG5520, MG5522, MG3520, MG3522, MX532, MX472, MX479, iX6820 and iP8720 (pictured).

The Canon Pixma iP110 Wireless Mobile Printer, which was unveiled a month ago in Europe, is now available in the US. This printer builds on the features of its predecessor, the Canon Pixma iP100, with a 9600 x 2400 dpi maximum colour resolution, and fits easily onto a desk with limited space or into a carry-on bag. Also featured on this printer is Wireless PictBridge, a technology that allows digital camcorders and cameras to connect and then print directly without using a computer. With Access Point Mode, users can connect their compatible mobile device to the printer directly through Wi-Fi without a router. The Canon Pixma iP110 Wireless Mobile Printer has a one-picoliter droplet size for colour printing allowing business professionals to produce photo-quality prints. Epson has announced that 13 of its latest mobile printers have gained Mopria-certified status. By becoming certified, Epson’s printers will work with the Mopria Print Service and the built-in Printing Framework in Android v4.4 or later. From today, Mopria-certified mobile devices will be able to automatically detect the following Epson Mopria-certified printers through their Wi-Fi connection, Expression Home XP-322, Expression Home XP-422, Expression Home XP-425, Expression Premium XP-520, Expression Premium XP-620, Expression Premium XP-625, Expression Premium XP-720, Expression Premium XP-820, Expression Photo XP-760, Expression Photo XP-860 (pictured), WorkForce WF-2630, WorkForce WF-2660 and WorkForce WF-2650.

Epson America has announced its next-generation of Expression Premium XP-820 ($199.99), XP-620 ($149.99) and XP-520 ($129.99) "Small-in-One" printers with exclusive MicroPiezo printing technology and Claria Premium inks. The Epson SureColor SC-P600 is Epson’s new top-of-the-range A3+ photo printer. Combining professional quality, high productivity and superior wireless connectivity in a relatively compact and affordable package, the Epson SureColor SC-P600 features the manufacturer's new nine-colour UltraChrome HD inkset for excellent quality prints. Designed for medium-volume production, the SureColor SC-P600 outputs an 11 x 14 inch print in 153 seconds. The Canon Pixma iP110 is a slim, single-function printer that produces quality prints, from clear crisp documents to vibrant photos, fast. Replacing the current Pixma iP100. the iP1110 comes with a range of new connectivity features, including Wi-Fi and cloud printing. Compatible with Google Cloud Print and Apple Air Print, the Canon Pixma iP110 supports Canon’s Pixma Printing Solutions app. The iP110 prints at up to 9600dpi resolution, with print speeds of 5.8ipm for colour and 9.0ipm for mono prints, and produces a 4x6 borderless photo in approximately 53 seconds. Canon has added 3 new wireless AiO models to its Pixma range of inkjet printers. The top-of-the-line Canon Pixma MG7520 (£189.99/€229.99/$199.99, pictured) features advanced media handling with a dual front tray, direct disc printing and six individual ink tanks producing output at a maximum color resolution of 9600x2400dpi. Sporting a compact footprint, the printer has a 3.5-inch LCD touchscreen with the Canon Intelligent Touch System for easy viewing and navigating of menus and images. New to this model is PIXMA Touch & Print (Active NFC), which allows users with compatible Android mobile devices that are registered with PPS to simply open the PPS app, touch the NFC Tag on the top of the printer while viewing the picture, and begin printing without the need for Wi-Fi. The Canon Pixma MG6620 (£139.99/€169.99/$149.99) features a Passive NFC version of PIXMA Touch & Print technology, with similar functionality as Active NFC except that both the mobile device and printer will have to be connected to the same Wi-Fi network in order to print. The Pixma MG5620 (£99.99/€119.99/$99.99) utilises five individual ink tanks, four of which are colour and photo-dedicated while there is a separate pigment black ink dedicated to text. Canon today announced Canon Print Service, a mobile print offering that enables users to print from any Android version 4.4 enabled devices as well as select HP Slate devices to select Canon models. Canon Print Service works on top of Android’s recently announced printing framework and enables users to print their photographs and documents to Canon printing systems over a wireless network. “As the growth in mobility among individuals and businesses around the world expands exponentially, Canon U.S.A. continues to deliver to our customers the technology they need to remain productive and successful,” said Junichi Yoshitake, senior vice president and general manager, Business Imaging Solutions Group, Canon U.S.A. “With the release of Canon Print Service, we are demonstrating our commitment to existing Canon customers especially by offering them a valuable solution they didn’t have when they originally bought their product.”

The Technical Image Press Association has recognised two Epson products in the prestigious 2014 TIPA Awards. The winning Epson products this year were the Epson Expression Photo XP-950 (pictured), which was named “Best Photo Printer,” and the Epson EH-TW7200, which won the award for “Best Photo Projector.” Mark Reynolds, director of consumer sales, Epson UK, commented, “TIPA members are all experts in the field and therefore select products according to the strictest standards. The panel has a huge variety of choice so we are very proud to learn that Epson products have once again been selected for these much valued awards.”

Los Angeles-based LifePrint has launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds for the commercialisation of its new product, a Wi-Fi/Bluetooth-enabled photo printer for smartphones. Measuring roughly 6.5" long x 4.5" wide x 1.5" thick and weighing in at approximately 1.5 lbs, the LifePrint wireless smartphone printer produces prints of standard 3"x4" size. "Beautifully designed and smaller than an iPad Mini, the LifePrint photo printer lets you instantly print photos from wherever you are - simply open the LifePrint app (iOS & Android), select a photo and hit print," the company says. "Take LifePrint with you to print on-the-go or send a photo directly to a friend’s LifePrint printer so they can instantly hold that special photo in their hands." Interested readers are encouraged to visit the project's Kickstarter page.

The Epson SureLab D7 Studio is a scalable and flexible commercial photo production microlab / self-service order terminal. Available from June 2014, the SureLab D7 Studio can produce premium quality prints, panoramics, folded displays and cards, on a wide range of media, including  paper-based matte, glossy and lustre media, and in a range of sizes. The SureLab D7 Studio includes a self-service, touch screen order terminal and up to two printers. A further three extensions can be added, increasing the number of printers linked to the terminal, up to a total of eight. Epson has announced the SureLab D700, its first compact six-colour photo production printer, which offers a wide range of media and format options. The SureLab D700 uses Epson’s highly flexible inkjet technology to print multiple sizes (from 4inches up to A4 wide and from 3.5- 39 inches long) on a wide range of media including glossy, lustre and paper-based matte media.  Martin Johns, market development manager, Epson UK, says: “After the successful introduction of the SureLab D3000 for high-volume photo production, the compact SureLab D700 for small to medium production runs or kiosk printing is a logical next step for Epson.
