The Olympus Tough TG-5 is a new compact digital camera designed to capture images in the most challenging conditions. Successor to the TG-4, the new TG-5 has a 12-megapixel backlit CMOS sensor, an improved 25-100mm (eq.) f/2.0-4.9 lens with a new Anti-Fog Lens Cover Glass, a GPS sensor, manometer, compass and temperature sensor, and integrated WiFi. The camera is waterproof to depths of 50 feet (15 metres), shockproof from 7 feet (2.1 metres), crushproof to 220 pounds of force (100 kilograms of force), freezeproof down to 14°F (-10°C), and dustproof. In addition to taking 12-megapixel stills, the Olympus TG-5 can record 4K videos at 30fps, or Full HD movies at up to 120fps for slow-motion playback. The camera will become available next month, with an MSRP of £399.99/$449.99. A number of accessories including a silicone jacket and an underwater case depth rated to 45 metres will also be available from June. In addition the Olympus Tough TG-5 is compatible with a number of existing accessories, from add-on type conversion lenses to underwater flashguns and a flash diffuser.

Olympus have unveiled a new rugged action camera that adds tracking data to help improve your performance. The new Olympus TG-Tracker has a 1/2.3"-type 7.2-megapixel imager capable to record 4K footage, a detachable grip, a 14mm (eq.) f/2 ultra-wide-angle lens, 5-axis image stabilisation and a 1.5" flip-out LCD monitor. It is shockproof to a height of 2.1 metres, crushproof to a weight of 100kg, dustproof, freezeproof down to -10°C and waterproof down to a depth of 30 metres. Underwater, the camera automatically adjusts white balance and other settings, and there is an up to 60-lumen spotlight for shooting when it would otherwise be too dark. And unlike products with regular geotagging, the TG-Tracker can sense acceleration, altitude or depth and temperature as well as direction of movement – in addition to latitude and longitude. This gives extreme sports enthusiasts a much fuller picture of where they were, what was happening and how they were performing at the moment any given image was captured. First unveiled in January, the Olympus Tough TG-870 is a premium all-weather compact with a 21-105mm equivalent lens,180-degree tilting 920,000-dot LCD screen, customisable front button, built-in Wi-Fi, next-generation GPS and 13 Art Filters. The camera is waterproof to depths of 50 feet (15 m), freezeproof to 14℉ (-10℃), shockproof from 7 feet (2.1 m), crushproof to 220 pounds (100 kg) of force and dustproof. The customisable button on the front of the camera can be programmed for several functions, including shutter release, video recording, monitor boost, LED assist and Super Macro Mode. The Olympus Tough TG-870 will come to Europe in April, carrying a recommended retail price of £249.99/€299.00. The 12-megapixel Olympus TG-630 and 16-megapixel TG-830 are the latest additions to the manufacturer’s line-up of ruggedised Tough cameras. Waterproof to 5m, freezeproof to -10 °C and shockproof to 1.5m, the family-oriented Olympus TG-630 (£169.99) comes with a 28-140mm equivalent zoom lens. The more serious Olympus TG-830 (£249.99, pictured) is waterproof to 10m, crushproof to 100kg, freezeproof to -10 °C and shockproof to 2m;.and comes with built-in GPS and e-Compass. Both cameras offer 5x optical zoom, 60fps sequential shooting, Full HD video capture and advanced underwater white balance. The Olympus TG-630 is availabele from early February, while the Olympus TG-830 is expected to hit the shelves in mid-March.
The Olympus TG-2 is a new rugged camera with a 12-megapixel back-illuminated CMOS sensor and a 25-100mm equivalent zoom lens with an f/2 maximum aperture at the wide end. New to the TG-2 is a telemacro mode which, when combined with a subject distance of 1cm, effectively turns the camera into a digital microscope. Waterproof to a depth of 15 metres, shockproof to a height of 2.1m, freeze proof to -10°C and crushproof to a force of 100kg, the Olympus TG-2 is FlashAir compatible fortransferring password-protected images to selected smartphones and social networks. Other highlights include GPS tracking, Full HD movie capture and video recording at up to 240 frames per second. The Olympus TG-2 will go on sale in early February, priced at £349.99.
