Animal shelter advocate and photographer Guinnevere Shuster has been selected as the latest "real life rebel" in Canon's Rebel With A Cause campaign. To build awareness of the overcrowding within shelters and the 3,000 animals euthanised each year*, Guinnevere captured a "dog's best day" with shelter dog, Willa. “Four years ago, I started photographing shelter dogs. With millions of animals still in shelters looking for their forever home, I wanted to try and make a difference and do my part to change people’s opinions of animal shelters and their residents,” said Shuster. “It’s been amazing working with Canon to change the portrayal of shelter animals by showcasing how to use photography to capture dogs in their natural state, having fun, rather than the stereotypical pictures that show shelter animals behind ‘bars.’” Click through / scroll down to watch the full #WillasBestDay film, shot entirely on Canon EOS Rebel T6i DSLR cameras.

Canon Continues to Lead iLC Camera Market

During the year, Canon launched the compact-system EOS M, aimed at expanding the company’s entry-level user base, along with the EOS 6D, the world’s smallest and lightest digital SLR camera equipped with a 35mm full-frame CMOS sensor. This year, Canon introduced the EOS 100D / Rebel SL1 (pictured), which is billed as the world’s smallest and lightest DSLR camera equipped with an APS-C-size sensor.

“The Story Beyond The Still"

Canon has launched “The Story Beyond The Still Contest,” allowing photographers and videographers to showcase their creativity in a new style of filmmaking that blends still and video images into a continuous cinematic piece. The contest, sponsored by Canon and hosted by Vimeo, the online video sharing site hosting one of the largest collections of HD content on the Web, invites participants to use the HD video capability of their camera to create short, two to four minute videos. To kick off the contest, Vincent Laforet collaborated with Grey New York to bring his interpretation of a still image to life in a short film entitled “The Cabbie,” which serves as the first installment of a seven chapter collaborative work in which each participant will be asked to interpret the previous winning photographer/filmmaker’s final still image to start their vision for the subsequent chapter. Six winners will be chosen (one for each chapter) based on their submissions and will join Laforet on location to collaboratively film the final chapter of the film. In addition, winners will receive a choice of prizes including Canon EOS 7D and 5D Mark II DSLR cameras or select Canon lenses. For complete rules and to submit “The Story Beyond the Still” videos participants can visit http://vimeo.com/groups/beyondthestill/

Canon Digital Rebel XS Review

Canon EOS 1000DDigitalCameraInfo have reviewed the Canon Digital Rebel XS, a new entry-level, 10 megapixel DSLR camera with Live View mode.

“It arrives into an already crowded marketplace, full of affordable, starter SLRs. The XS performed competently in most of our tests, and proved itself able to handle low light situations well, and boasting an impressive dynamic range. For an entry-level SLR, it would easily handle nighttime and indoor shooting well. At the same time it’s only barely cheaper than the Rebel XSi, and is more expensive than two of its major competitors, the Sony Alpha 200 and the Nikon D60. The former generally scored worse than the XS, but is significantly cheaper, and the latter offers roughly similar performance for a slightly lower price tag.”

Canon EOS Rebel XS Review

Canon EOS 1000DSteves Digicams have reviewed the Canon EOS Rebel XS, a new entry-level, 10 megapixel DSLR camera with Live View mode.

“The Rebel XS has the ability to produce beautiful photos, right out of the box. The vast majority of our outdoor photos showed excellent exposure, nice image sharpness (using standard Picture Style), and pleasing color saturation. The included Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS zoom is a great starter lens, offering about 3x magnification. While using this combo, I saw very little edge softness and only very moderate barrel distortion. I also found that there were no traces of purple fringing (aka Chromatic Aberrations) in any of our samples.”

Sony A200 Review

Sony A200PopPhoto have reviewed the Sony A200, a 10 megapixel, entry-level DSLR camera with 2.7 inch LCD screen and a maximum ISO speed of 3200.

“Overall, image quality was Excellent from ISO 100 through 800. It slipped to Extremely High at ISO 1600-3200, when noise reduction, a default setting, kicked in at the expense of resolution. This dropped to 1725 lines at ISO 3200 from 2150 lines on average at lower ISOs. The A200 also fared very well in our noise tests, slightly edging out Canon’s Rebel XSi from ISO 100 through 800. But even at lower sensitivities, its noise advantage costs the Sony resolution: The Canon beats it by about 100 lines at ISO 100.”

Canon EOS 1000D / Rebel XS

Canon Digital Rebel XSiThe name of a brand new Canon DSLR camera, the EOS 1000D / Rebel XS, has been leaked by Canon. Canon EOS 400D Review at TrustedReviews

Canon EOS 400DTrustedReviews have reviewed the new Canon EOS 400D (Canon Digital Rebel XTi in the USA), which offers 10 megapixels, a large 2.5 inch LCD screen and new integrated dust removal system.

“In terms of performance, the EOS 400D is everything we’ve come to expect from a Canon DSLR. It starts up virtually instantly, and in continuous shooting in fine JPEG quality mode it can rattle off 21 shots at an impressive 2.5 frames per second before it has to pause to write data to the memory card. Even then, the progressive buffer means you don’t have to wait until it’s finished processing every frame before you can shoot again. Even in RAW plus fine JPEG it can shoot at the same speed, although this time the buffer can hold only eight shots, and you have to wait a little longer before shooting again.”

Canon Digital Rebel XTi Review at Steves Digicams

Canon EOS 400DSteves Digicams have reviewed the new Canon EOS 400D (Canon Digital Rebel XTi in the USA), which offers 10 megapixels, a large 2.5 inch LCD screen and new integrated dust removal system.

“The XTi’s self-cleaning image sensor is a first for Canon in any of its dSLRs. It eliminates or reduces the occurrence of dust on the image sensor. With other dSLRs (Olympus E-series and the Sony A100 notable exceptions), the risk of dust on the sensor occurs at every lens change; it’s not a matter of if, but when your images will have noticeable dark spots - especially noticeable at small apertures. The XTi’s self-cleaning process is invoked each time you power the camera off and on, causing an ultrasonic vibration to shake dust loose from the image sensor. I did not purposefully deposit any dust on the sensor during our testing, but did change lenses frequently in dusty conditions and found no evidence of dust in our samples.”

Canon Digital Rebel XTi Review at DigitalCameraInfo

Canon EOS 400DDigitalCameraInfo have reviewed the new Canon EOS 400D (Canon Digital Rebel XTi in the USA), which offers 10 megapixels, a large 2.5 inch LCD screen and new integrated dust removal system.

“The Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi is an update of the Rebel XT with a 10.1-megapixel sensor, a dust removal system and a 2.5-inch 230,000-pixel LCD, along with a number of other improvements. At a list price of $699.99 with an 18-55mm kit lens, or $599.99 for the body only, the Rebel XTi picks up much of the image processing architecture of current pro and prosumer Canons with the same Picture Styles system. Oddly enough, Canon’s XTi is now the cheapest DSLR from the manufacturer, but its resolution beats out the Canon EOS 30D which has 8.5 megapixels and is a wedding and portrait stalwart.”

Canon EOS 400D Review at LetsGoDigital

Canon EOS 400DDIWA member LetsGoDigital have published their review of the new Canon EOS 400D (Canon Digital Rebel XTi in the USA), which offers 10 megapixels, a large 2.5 inch LCD screen and new integrated dust removal system.

“There’s more, however. The screen on the camera’s back side has undergone a revolution. Not only is the small Canon now equipped with a large 2.5-inch LCD display, it also proves of terrific quality. In fact, it is even better than those found on the EOS 5D and the EOS 1D Mark II N; this screen is bound to spark the jealousy of many a professional DSLR owner! The value of a good monitor can simply not be underestimated, after all, you will be dealing with it all of the time. The LCD now also shows the photographic settings, which is very pleasant to work with in practice. Although we must admit we find the eye sensor a rather irksome piece of work - but to each his own! “

Nikon D80 Review at e-fotografija

Nikon D80DIWA member and Slovenian website e-fotografija have reviewed the new 10 megapixel Nikon D80 DSLR camera.

“With the D80, Nikon is ahead of the pack again. But that’s just what they do. Compared to Canon, in the amateur and semi-pro class, Nikon always had cameras that were a bit more advanced than the competition. They were, of course, also more expensive. For this reason, the Nikon D80 shouldn’t be compared to the EOS 400D / Rebel XTi or the Alpha 100 and other entry-level cameras. The first clue is the larger body of the D80, offering a far better grip. This is of course true for the photographer who values grip above size. In addition to that, the Nikon D80 has a load of useful features in the menus. For this reason, I recommend the Nikon D80 to all photographers who want something more, not just a mass market entry level camera.”

10 Megapixel DSLR Comparison at DigitalCameraInfo

Nikon D80DigitalCameraInfo have compared the new 10 megapixel Nikon D80 (pictured), Sony A100 and Canon Digital Rebel XTi DSLR cameras.

“There are choices for the photographer who wants a combination of manual and automatic options in a 10-megapixel sub-$1000 DSLR. In this comparison review, we’re looking at the three most prominent cameras – the Sony Alpha A100, the Canon Rebel XTi and the Nikon D80. The Canon and the Sony are both available online for under $900 with a lens and both offer dust removal and reduction features. The Sony has in-camera image stabilization – Super Steady Shot technology that moves the sensor in response to camera shake. The Nikon lacks dust technology and stabilization, but goes for about $1100 with a similar lens (it’s under $1000 for the body alone). Is there a separate niche for each of these, or is one simply a better buy?”

Nikon D80 vs Canon Digital Rebel XTi at DCViews

Nikon D80DCViews have compared the new 10 megapixel Nikon D80 and Canon Digital Rebel XTi DSLR cameras.

“The D80 is a very responsive camera and with 40 JPEG/fine or 7 NEF (RAW) at a speed of 3 frames per second it almost equals the ’ motor drive’ of the EOS Rebel XTi. After such a burst the buffer is written to the memory card. During that time the camera is available for a single shot. All numbers and speeds mentioned heavily depend on the transfer speed of the memory card and the nature of the composition (file size of the JPEG).”

Canon EOS 400D Review at The-Digital-Picture

Canon EOS 400DThe-Digital-Picture have reviewed the new Canon EOS 400D (Canon Digital Rebel XTi in the USA), which offers 10 megapixels, a large 2.5 inch LCD screen and new integrated dust removal system.

“The image quality coming out of the Canon EOS 400D Digital Rebel XTi is excellent - We expect nothing less from Canon and they have delivered. Image quality is, however, different from Canon’s other recent DSLRs. Since a change such as this takes time to get used to (post processing-wise), I will continue to evaluate my results. But, what I am seeing is a new tone curve. Reds, yellows, and oranges seem to be slightly darker while blues seem slightly lighter. The tone curve seems to push shadows darker - but the detail remains. In addition, the 400D/XTi meters 1/3 stop darker than the 30D. Maybe Canon got tired of looking at our blown highlights. “

Canon EOS 350D / Digital Rebel XT Review at TopicPoint

Canon EOS 350D Digital SLRTopicPoint have published their review of the 8 megapixel Canon EOS 350D / Digital Rebel XT DSLR.

“I’m happy to say that in use, the 350D performs extremely well. It turns on almost instantly, wakes up almost instantly, has an imperceptible shutter delay, and feels fast and snappy in use. This is a huge improvement over my older Canon 10D. In addition, uploading pictures over the USB cable is noticeably faster than the 10D. Shooting continuously, it can do approximately 3 frames per second for 14 JPEG images in a row or 4 RAW images in a row. In use, the camera is moderately quiet- the shutter is definitely quieter than the rather noisy Canon 20D, but, slightly louder than the Canon 10D. “

Canon EOS 350D / Digital Rebel XT Review at ImagingResource

Canon EOS 350D Digital SLRImagingResource have published their review of the 8 megapixel Canon EOS 350D / Digital Rebel XT DSLR.

“The Canon Digital Rebel XT builds on the huge success of the original Digital Rebel, a camera that literally turned the digital camera world on its ear when it was first introduced. A six-megapixel digital SLR that sold with a lens for less than $1,000, the Digital Rebel not only challenged Nikon, Olympus, and Fuji in the D-SLR business, but promised to cut drastically into the all-in-one “prosumer” market. Borrowing its name from their highly popular “Rebel” line of entry-level film SLRs, the Digital Rebel offered many of the same exposure features and improvements as the 10D, but slightly scaled back to keep costs under control and to provide some differentiation between the Rebel and its higher-priced sibling.”

Canon EOS 350D / Digital Rebel XT Review at PCMagazine

Canon EOS 350D Digital SLRPCMagazine have published their review of the new 8 megapixel Canon EOS 350D / Digital Rebel XT DSLR.

“Where we found the Rebel XT to be a leader was in picture quality. In our simulated daylight still-life test photo, we found very little noise at ISO 100 and virtually no fringing. Even as we went up the ISO scale to 800 and 1,600, the slight increase in noise didn’t distract from the quality of the photo; it appeared more like grain than noise. The real strengths of the daylight shot were its vivid color (despite the image being slightly underexposed), excellent detail, and wide dynamic range, which lent the still life a sense of weight.”

Canon EOS 350D / Digital Rebel XT Review by Gordon Laing

Canon EOS 350D Digital SLRGordon Laing has published a detailed review of the new 8 megapixel Canon EOS 350D / Digital Rebel XT DSLR.

“The prospect of upgrading a camera which is less than two years old can be a bitter pill to swallow, and if you’re happy with your 300D or 10D, then our best advice is to stick with it. Sure, the extra two megapixels on the 350D are nice to have, but unless you’re making very large prints or tight crops, you won’t notice much difference. Similarly, the smaller dimensions and weight of the 350D may be welcomed by most photographers, but unless you’re an avid climber or walker who values every ounce, you could probably live with your old camera.”

Tamron 11-18mm Lens Price Announced

Tamron 11-18mm LensIt seems that the price of the new Tamron SP AF11-18mm F/4.5-5.6 Di-II LD Aspherical (IF), a new high performance ultra wideangle zoom lens designed exclusively for digital SLR cameras using APS-C size image sensors, will be $981.95 in the USA. That’s a lot higher than the $550 price that I was told by a Tamron rep at PMA last month, and a lot nearer to the price of the Canon EF-S 10-22mm lens. Have Tamron pitched too high - will all the Canon, Nikon and Konica Minolta owners out there choose the Tamron as their wide-angle lens, or the Sigma 10-20mm (price to be confirmed)? I’m guessing that owners of the Canon EOS 20D and Digital Rebel DSLRs will opt for the Canon EF-S 10-22mm lens instead…

Thanks to Simon Heard for letting me know.

Meanwhile, take a look at some exclusive sample shots and my initial thoughts on the new Tamron 11-18mm lens.

PMA Show 2005 Roundup

Photo Marketing Association Show 2005The PMA Show 2005 was held last week in Orlando, Florida. PhotographyBLOG was there for an entire week to cover the show, attend various press events and go on the rides at the Universal Studios “Islands of Adventure” theme park (I can’t work all the time you know…). All in all the Show was a quiet, understated affair compared to previous years, with the general concensus being this was a year of consolidation in the industry, rather than innovation. There were still a lot of new products introduced, however, so here is my personal roundup of the hits, misses and maybes.

Creativepro.com Reviews Canon EOS 20D

Canon EOS 20DCreativepro.com have published a review of the 8 megapixel Canon EOS 20D DSLR.

“The most noticeable change in image quality with the 20D (in addition to increased resolution) is more-aggressive default settings. Following in the footsteps of the Rebel, the 20D comes pre-configured to perform a little more sharpening than the 10D, and its images consequently receive a boost in contrast. The camera comes equipped with a number of parameter sets, and it’s easy enough to change and customize them to yield images with more or less processing.”

Bob Atkin's Guide to Canon Lenses

Canon EOS 300DIf you have recently bought one of Canon’s DSLRs, like the Digital Rebel (also called the EOS 300D) or the new, flying off the shelves like hotcakes EOS 20D, then you will be very interested in Bob Atkin’s great overview of Canon lenses.

“This review is for the new users. The assumption is that they don’t want to spend $7000 on an EF 600/4L IS USM, and indeed they probably don’t even want to spend $1150 on an EF 300/4L IS USM. I’ve chosen a series of lenses which the new user might be most interested in. These are mostly zooms and mostly priced in the $200-$400 range. I’ve avoided recommending most of the low end, plastic mount, inexpensive lenses normally sold with Rebel series bodies because, quite frankly, they aren’t all that good.”

Bob Atkins Reviews Compact Flash Cards

Canon EOS 20DBob Atkins has published a great overview of compact flash cards from a Canon DSLR point of view, including the 8 megapixel Canon EOS 20D (pictured).

“As you can see, it really doesn’t matter much what speed CF card you use with the Digital Rebel or EOS 10D. The camera really can’t write faster than about 1.4MB/s no matter what the CF card speed is. Faster cards do give slightly better performance, but the difference is small. On the other hand, the EOS 20D and EOS 1Ds mark II can write much faster and can take more advantage of high speed cards. With these cameras the use of faster CF cards makes much more difference.”

Steves Digicams Reviews Nikon D70

Nikon D70Steves Digicams have today published their review of the 6 megapixel Nikon D70 DSLR.

“With the introduction of the D70, Nikon has redefined the amateur dSLR market. While Canon limited the features of its Digital Rebel to prevent competition with its own higher-end 10D, Nikon equipped the D70 with versatile features and equal or better shooting performance than its more costly D100. Nikon also included seven “Vari-Program” shooting modes that optimize camera settings for frequently found shooting conditions, addressing the needs of less-experienced users. The D70 is Nikon’s answer for amateur users of film-based SLR’s looking to move to digital, and for digital photographers who are tired of accommodating the limitations of consumer digicams.”

Popular Photography Reviews Nikon D70

Nikon D70The US magazine Popular Photography have just published their review of the 6 megapixel Nikon D70 DSLR.

“Our first impression is that this camera is far more than a “light” version of the D100, as many have nicknamed Canon’s EOS Digital Rebel when compared to the more expensive EOS 10D. On the one hand, the D70’s durable body construction is similar to the D100 and Digital Rebel, with a stainless-steel chassis surrounded by a polycarbonate body, and a stainless-steel lensmount. It’s smaller and easier to grip than the D100, and, at 1.3 pounds, the D70 body weighs about the same as the Digital Rebel. But with a lens attached, the D70 feels more solid and well-balanced.”

DPReview Reviews Nikon D70 DSLR

Nikon D70DPReview have just published a comprehensive review of the 6 megapixel Nikon D70 DSLR.

“Shortly after Canon announced the EOS 300D (Digital Rebel) and it made its way into reviewers hands it was fairly clear that Canon were offering a formidable package at an excellent price which would be the mark for affordable digital SLR’s of the future, with image quality almost identical to the EOS 10D and a sub-$1000 price it caused a significant ripple in the market. Now however it’s clear that Nikon were well aware of this and had the D70 up their sleeve, a camera which is a significant step ahead of the EOS 300D in terms of build quality and feature set and a match, and in some instances better from an image quality point of view.”

Canon Increases EOS 300D Production

Canon EOS 300DCanon’s “EOS Digital Rebel/EOS Kiss/EOS 300D” digital SLR has sold so well that Canon have recently raised production by 25%, according to a report on Yahoo! News via Reuters:

“Ando said Canon had completed plans to boost monthly production capacity of the “EOS Kiss” by about 25 percent to 100,000 cameras in the first quarter of this year. Half of that capacity is housed in a Taiwan plant and the other half in Japan.

Canon sold 600,000 digital SLRs in 2003, capturing 70 percent of the rapidly growing market and leaving Nikon Corp (7731.T), which did not have a camera anywhere near the “EOS Kiss” model’s price range, in second place with 30 percent.”

Even more interestingly, Canon spokesman Tadaaki Ando, deputy group executive in charge of digital SLRs, strongly hinted that an even cheaper DSLR will be released in about a year’s time:

“Canon’s Ando said a lower-priced digital SLR could be about one year away.

“If it’s not this autumn, then that would probably mean next spring,” Ando said, noting the release would then be one-and-a-half years after the original “EOS Kiss.” “Development times are so much faster than they were in the film age.”

DO Labs Introduces DxO Optics Pro

DO Labs Press Release 30/01/04

Breakthrough Software Application for Digital SLR Camera Users
Eliminates Blur, Distortion, Chromatic Aberration And Vignetting

Las Vegas, NV (February 12, 2004) ? DO Labs, a software company focused on research in image processing to enhance image quality, today announces DxO Optics Pro, a revolutionary software solution designed for professional and expert photographers. DxO Optics Pro delivers genuine and perceptible quality improvements by automatically correcting images for:

- Distortion
- Chromatic aberrations
- Vignetting
- Blur (lack of perceived sharpness)

“Isn’t it frustrating that the more you pay for high-end digital cameras or lenses, the more you feel their limitations?” asks Jerome Meniere, CEO of DO Labs. “The brighter a lens, the softer it is wide open, the wider the range of a zoom lens, the greater the distortion, the higher resolution the sensor is, the more visible chromatic aberration becomes. DxO Optics PRO will help demanding photographers get the best possible image quality from their equipment, at any settings”

“DxO Optics Pro can be thought of as a ‘software corrective lens’ for your DSLR,” explains Dr. Guichard, DO Labs? Chief Scientist. “We have created objective, laboratory-grade precise mathematical models of each fault, and developed fully automatic algorithms to remedy them”.

CNET Reviews Canon EOS 300D

Canon EOS 300DCNET have just published their review of the Canon EOS 300D / Digital Rebel.

“It’s tempting to think of Canon’s EOS Digital Rebel (known outside the United States as the 300D) as a light version of the EOS 10D. But luckily for consumers, the Rebel is more of a middleweight champion, delivering slightly scaled-back performance but similar high-quality, 6.3-megapixel images and most of the 10D’s capabilities. And like its pricier brother, the Rebel combines automatic functions—which enable almost anyone to use it right out of the box—with most of the shooting features serious amateurs want. But the Rebel does it all at the lowest price we’ve yet seen for an interchangeable-lens dSLR.”

Phase One Press Release 27/10/03

Phase One A/S Creates ‘C1 Product Group’

- Rapid growth of company’s acclaimed RAW Workflow software creates need
- Neilson/Clyne, Inc. appointed to handle Press & Public Relations
- New dedicated Web site announced

NORTHPORT, NY, October 24, 2003 ? Denmark’s Phase One, the photographic industry’s leading manufacturer of high-end digital imaging backs, is pleased to announce the formation of its new software division, the C1 Product Group, effective immediately. All activities related to Capture One DSLR software products (C1 DSLR ) will continue to operate out of the 10-year-old firm’s Copenhagen headquarters as well as its North American Sales headquarters based in Northport (Long Island), NY.

Phase One’s management team has moved quickly to accommodate the aggressive growth of its critically-acclaimed and patent-pending RAW Workflow Image Processing Software products and to stay abreast of the rapid introductions of new DSLR cameras from leading manufacturers (Canon?, Nikon?, etc .), as indicated by this week’s release of the C1 REBEL RAW Workflow software for Canon’s new price-breakthrough “Digital Rebel” (300D) DSLR.

Over the past year, the Capture One DSLR PRO and LE software products have not only enjoyed rapidly escalating sales, but garnered impressive product reviews throughout the photographic industry trade and consumer press. C1 RAW Workflow software has also received praise on critical user forums and is used daily by thousands of photographic pros and enthusiasts worldwide.

Henrik O. H?konsson, CEO of Phase One, explained, “We are very pleased with the rapid acceptance of our Capture One DSLR software by photographic professionals. The creation of a sophisticated and powerful RAW image workflow solution for our customers was a timely addition; it’s a natural progression to our company’s highly regarded digital imaging backs. We knew that the benefits of better RAW file image manipulation and management would not only be important to professionals, but also to the fast-growing market of DSLR enthusiasts who continue to invest in more powerful digital SLR cameras. Phase One’s new C1 Product Group was specifically created to better serve not only our loyal professional users, but these increasingly important new customers.”

The new C1 Product Group will be responsible for all development, sales, marketing, and support involving C1 PRO,LE, and the just-released C1 REBEL edition. Additionally, joint software R&D efforts will continue between the teams of the newly established C1 Product Group and the firm’s digital back developers.

Kenneth T. L?rke, Phase One’s Vice President in charge of the new C1 Product Group, added, “By focusing our software efforts into a single new division and adding additional resources in both engineering and customer support, Phase One will be able to stay at the forefront of digital SLR RAW workflow solutions. Consistent with the company’s beginnings over a decade ago, that’s precisely where we want to remain, the leader in direct digital imaging solutions.”

New Firmware for Canon EOS 300D / Digital Rebel

Canon EOS 300DCanon have released a new version of firmware for the Canon EOS 300D / Digital Rebel DSLR.

Firmware Version 1.1.1 resolves the following issues:

- It increases the reliability of RemoteCapture application when the camera is used. The reliability of RemoteCapture, with which you can control the camera from your computer and take single-frame shots, timer shots and interval timer shots and save the images on your computer automatically, is increased.
- It increases the reliability of operations when used on Windows XP and Mac OS X with [PTP]* selected in [Communication]. It increases the operations with the camera when connected and disconnected with your computer in saving and deleting the images. You may now make a continuous printing of up to 100 images at one time.

This firmware Version 1.1.1 can only be installed on cameras with Version 1.0.2 firmware. If the camera already has the firmware Version 1.1.1 installed, you do not need to update it.

Digital Outback Photo Previews Capture One DSLR Rebel Edition

Canon EOS 300DDigital Outback Photo have posted an extensive preview of the new RAW convertor software, Capture One DSLR Rebel Edition, which is specifically designed for the Canon EOS 300D/Rebel digital SLR. I personally use Capture One DSLR LE with my EOS 10D, in preference to the software that Canon provides - it’s a lot faster and easy to use and well worth the $99 price tag.

“If you want to get the best quality out of your EOS 300D you need to use the raw file format (read our Shutterbug article to understand why). Unfortunately the Canon File Viewer Utility is not a very useable raw converter. This is not real problem as Capture One DSLR Rebel Edition provides a first class solution at only $49.”

Canon EOS 300D/10D Lens Review

Continuing the lens theme this morning, Bob Atkins has written an article aimed at new owners of the Canon EOS 300D and 10D DSLRs. The catchily-named “A review of lenses for the Canon EOS 300D and EOS 10D Digital SLRs” does exactly what it says on the tin.
