Tamron has issued advisory notices for the 70-180mm F/2.8 Di III VXD and 17-28mm F/2.8 Di III RXD lenses. They warn of a timing issue when using a flashgun with both lenses on most Sony cameras, and additionally a serious stabilizer malfunction when using the 70-180mm lens and the Alpha A7 II camera.

Polaroid have unveiled a new "dive rated" waterproof underwater housing. Sony Release Firmware Updates for Four E-Mount Cameras

Sony have issued firmware upgrades for their A6000 (pictured), A7S, A7R and A7 compact system camera models. Available now as free download from the Sony website, firmware version 2.00 reduces the time between switching on the camera to viewing a picture on the LCD screen or OLED viewfinder by 30%, and enables high bit-rate movie recording at 50p/25p in PAL and 60p/30p/24p in NTSC in XAVC S format. Cineasy Touch Now Available

The Cineasy Touch is a small accessory which makes capturing video with the Sony A6000 and A7S compact system cameras more comfortable. "The video record button [on these cameras] is too small, awkwardly placed and slightly recessed," the company says. "This is why we created the Cineasy Touch Button Enhancement. This Patent Pending device, for the Sony Alpha line of mirrorless cameras will help your camera to capture pristine video just as easily as it does still images." The Cineasy Touch attaches to the camera via one of the neck strap eyelets. The A6000 and A7S versions are now available and a third model, designed for the Sony A7II, is coming soon.

Sony Boasts Record Growth in CSC Market

Sony is reporting a record growth in compact camera sales. According to The NPD Group, overall mirrorless camera revenue has grown 16.5%  over the past 12 months, with DSLR sales declining approximately 15% over the same period.  During this time, Sony has experienced a 66% boost in their company's CSC sales, strengthening their dominant position as the number one overall mirrorless brand, a position they have held for 4 consecutive years. "Growth in the mirrorless segment shows this new technology and form factor are resonating with consumers," said Ben Arnold, executive director, The NPD Group. "Going forward, mirrorless will continue to command a greater share of the interchangeable lens camera category."

Think Tank Photo Reveals Urban Approach 15 Backpack

In April, Think Tank Photo will release the Urban Approach 15, its first backpack designed specifically to hold a complete mirrorless kit as well as a 15” laptop, up to a 10” tablet, smartphone and more. “For quick and complete access to gear, we designed the zippers to open wide,” said Doug Murdoch, Think Tank’s president and lead designer. “This allows for unencumbered access to gear. Adobe DNG Converter 8.4 and ACR 8.4

Adobe has released final versions of Adobe DNG Converter 8.4 and ACR 8.4. These updates add support for the Canon EOS 1200D, Canon PowerShot G1 X Mark II, Casio EX-100, Fujifilm X-T1, Hasselblad H5D-50C, Hasselblad HV, Nikon 1 V3, Nikon Coolpix P340, Nikon D3300, Nikon D4S, Olympus OM-D E-M10, Panasonic TZ60 / TZ61, Samsung NX mini, Samsung NX30, Sony A5000 and Sony A6000 cameras, the Phase One IQ250 digital back (pictured) and the DJI Phantom quadcopter; similarly to Lightroom 5.4. Additionally, ACR 8.4 brings support for a host of new lens profiles, implements changes to local corrections and updates to the Preview Controls, and fixes bugs. Camera Matching color profiles for more than a dozen Fujifilm cameras have also been added.

WPO Unveils Open & Youth Category Winners

The World Photography Organisation (WPO) has revealed the category winners in the Sony World Photography Awards Open and Youth competitions. The jury, chaired by Nigel Atherton, Group Editor, IPC Photo, UK, selected ten category winners for the Open competition, including Holger Schmidtke, Valerie Prudon, Kylli Sparre, Vlad Eftenie, Gert van den Bosch, Ivan Pedretti, Arup Ghosh, Alpay Erdem, Li Chen (for the photo, "Rain in an Ancient Town," above) and Hairul Azizi Harun. The category winners in the Youth competition include Paulina Metzscher, Turjoy Chowdhury and Borhan Mardani.

Update: Borhan Mardani has been disqualified - the new winner is Anastasia Zhetvina.

The Sony A6000 compact system camera features the world’s fastest autofocus amongst interchangeable lens cameras. The A6000's Fast Hybrid AF system produces an autofocus performance of just 0.06 sec with high precision accuracy and an extremely wide autofocus coverage area with 179 focal points.
